Rudolf Tupay was a thoughtful undergraduate student at the University of Portsmouth School of Architecture who demonstrated critical reflection skills and the ability to explore design solutions. He successfully engaged with the social sustainability component of his final design project of a food bank/soup kitchen. Rudolf also strengthened his design proposals with thorough technological development and detailing. I have known Rudolf Tupay as coordinator of the BA3 Architectural Technology unit and as tutor for the BA3 _nal design unit
at the School of Architecture, University of Portsmouth. Rudolf was my student in the academic year 2014‐2015, during
which I had the opportunity to observe the development of both his technological and design skills.
Rudolf proved to be a thoughtful undergraduate student, capable of critical refection and at the same time quite keen in
exploring a range of design solutions to finally identify the most suitable. This, in turn, demonstrated an attitude to research,
perseverance and discipline. The brief of the design unit (the design of a food bank/soup kitchen) had a strong social
sustainability component with which Rudolf successfully engaged, thus showing a good understanding of the principles of
user‐centred design. More importantly, Rudolf was capable of strengthening his design proposal with a thorough
development of technological aspects, thus showing he is capable to develop a project from concept to detailing.
I am confident that, strong of his year in practice, Rudolf will be an excellent postgraduate student and I am happy to
