2. LEARNING OBJECTIVES
1. To understand the surface landmarks of the arm(brachium)
and about the muscular compartments
2. To describe the muscles of anterior compartment of arm
with their origin, insertion, nerve supply and action
3. To describe the course and branches of Brachial artery
4. To learn about the course and distribution of
Musculocutaneous nerve.
3. 1. SURFACE LANDMARKS
Arm is the region between the shoulder and elbow .
Communicates supero-medially with axilla
Inferiorly structures pass from arm to forearm via cubital fossa.
1.Greater tubercle —lateral and below acromion process
2. Medial epicondyle of humerus —Prominent bony projection on
medial side of flexed elbow
3. Lateral epicondyle —depression on posterolateral part of extended
elbow
4. Olecranon process of ulna —most prominent bony projection
between lateral and medial epicndyles in posterior part of elbow
5. Deltoid and Biceps muscle
4. 1. COMPARTMENTS
The deep fascia
encloses the arm like a sleeve
and sends fascial septa to gain
attachment to the medial and
lateral supracondylar ridges.
This divides the arm into
two compartments:
anterior and posterior
5.
6. STRUCTURES OF THE ANTERIOR
COMPARTMENT ARE:
1. Muscles: Biceps Brachii, Brachialis and
Coraco-brachialis (BBC)
2. Artery: Brachial Artery
3. Nerve: Musculocutaneous nerve
17. MEDIAN N:
1. Nerve To Pronator Teres Just
Above Elbow
2. Nerve To Artery
3. Nerve To Elbow Joint
ULNAR NERVE:
No Branch In Arm
RADIAL NERVE:
1. N. To Brachialis
2. N. To Brachioradialis
3. N. To Ecrl
4. Deep Radial N.
5. Superficial Radial N.
