2. Introduction
Sinosteel Equipment & Engineering Co., Ltd (hereinafter referred to as Sinosteel MECC), formerly
known as Equipment Supply Company of the past Ministry of Metallurgical Industry, was established
with approval by the former State Planning Commission in 1972. Through restructuring and merger,
Sinosteel MECC is now the wholly-owned subsidiary of Sinosteel Corporation. Sinosteel MECC is
an internationally operated professional engineering company, with business scope covering EPC
contracting, complete set of equipment & spare parts supply, project management, project and
equipment supervision, and mechanical and electrical product design & manufacture for domestic
and overseas customers of metallurgical industry, mining, electric power and construction material
fields.
Sinosteel MECC has attained several qualifications including National Mechanical and Electrical
Complete Set of Equipment Supply Qualification Class A, National Equipment Supervision Qualifica-
tion Class A and Foreign Economic & Technical Cooperation Qualification. It has also passed the
authentication of ISO9001, ISO14001 and OHSAS18001. In April 2012, Sinosteel MECC acquired
100% share of Sinosteel Engineering Design & Research Institute Co., Ltd (hereinafter referred to
as Sinosteel Design Institute) and so took over its Engineering Design and Consultation Qualification
Class-A in metallurgical industry, construction, electronic communication, radio, film and television
field.
Through several years of actively international operation, Sinosteel MECC has transformed into an
influential engineering company in international metallurgical engineering field, enjoying sound repu-
tation in overseas markets. In recent years, it has accomplished several important international engi-
neering projects including the construction of the largest blast furnace, sinter plant, and coke oven
that have ever been contracted by Chinese enterprises in overseas market so far, and has fully dem-
onstrated its comprehensive competence in the field of international engineering construction. It has
been ranked in Top 225 International Contractors by US "Engineering News Record (ENR)” for four
straight years.
Relying on its good reputation in the field of international metallurgical engineering and the overall
advancement of its international operation ability, Sinosteel MECC actively expands its general
contracting business in some fields other than metallurgical industry. It has successfully undertaken
and completed series of mining and power station projects including Australian CUDECO’s copper
project and Turkish ICDAS’s 600MW coal-fired power plant project, which laid a solid foundation for
its transformation from a metallurgical engineering company to a large scale international engineer-
ing contractor.
By now, Sinosteel MECC has ever accomplished over 500 state and over 100 global large EPC projects Since 2006,
Sinosteel MECC has been approved as Grade AAA Credit Enterprise for foreign projects contracting as well as for
mechanical and electrical import and export (including large scale complete sets of equipment).
Sinosteel MECC has gradually transformed into a world famous first class engineering contractor in China, by empha-
sizing technical advance and relying on main business of engineering contracting and integration supply of mechani-
cal and electrical equipments & spare parts, with strong capacity in technical process, design and engineering man-
