2. personal statement
Résumés are often tedious to read,
almost always boring, and provide an
incomplete picture. The purpose of
this document is to give readers a sense
of my skills, talents, and interests in a
more tangible way than a résumé alone
can convey. Having earned a bache-
lor’s degree from Georgia College in
business administration, with minors
in rhetoric and political science, I’m
currently pursuing a master’s degree in
historic preservation at the University
of Georgia while selling real estate in
Athens and Milledgeville. My entre-
preneurship began when I was a teen-
ager with an old Snapper riding mower
(lawn tractor would be an overstate-
ment), from which grew a lawn care
business that was as much as any high
school kid could manage. From there
my inquiring mind led me into pho-
tography, real estate/property manage-
ment, government affairs, and historic
preservation—among other things—all
while enjoying the varied educational
experience I found at Georgia College,
including involvement in student lead-
ership, Greek life, music, volunteerism/
philanthropy, etc., all of which is out-
lined on my résumé and described and
illustrated on the pages following this
one. I am a project-oriented person
who focuses on the big picture; the
product is far more important to me
then the process. I value tradition, but
don’t mind tossing it out the window
if I can find a better way to do some-
thing. To sum up why I do all of the
things I do, I’ve long employed a favor-
ite quote from author Erma Bombeck,
which says, “When I stand before God
at the end of my life, I would hope that
I would not have a single bit of talent
left and could say, ‘I used everything
you gave me.’”

4. real estate
After graduating high
school while waiting to start
my freshman year of col-
lege, I enrolled in a course
to earn a real estate license
so that I could work part
time with my dad while
in school. That following
summer, in an effort to
avoid paying the high price
commanded by most stu-
dent housing, I bought my
first house at the age of 19
(top left). By renting out
the three spare bedrooms,
I brought in enough cash
to cover the mortgage and
associated expenses. Thus
began my plunge into the
world of investing and
property management.
Two years later I oversaw
the acquisition of a new
property to serve as the
chapter house for my fra-
ternity, and the following
year I purchased my second
house (bottom left), all of
which are among the nicest
student housing in Milled-
geville. Finally, after work-
ing as a salesperson for a
couple years at Athens Clas-
sic Properties, I got my own
broker’s license and opened
a new firm based in Milled-
geville and in partnership
with Athens Classic Prop-
erties. Oconee Classic Real
Estate is a full service firm
serving buyers and sellers
throughout the Oconee
River Corridor (map of ser-
vice area illustrated on next

Private retreat minutes from town! Masterful details jump out everywhere in this stunning custom home, secluded on 6 acres, not visible
from the highway but only 3 miles north of downtown Sandersville. With the many extras that went into the construction of this home by its
original and only owner, the cost to build this house today would far exceed its list price. Sandersville, a charming Antebellum Middle-GA
community, is located half way between Macon and Augusta (60 miles either way), right on the Fall Line Freeway, and just 30 miles east of
Milledgeville...a great small-town location with easy access to the rest of the state.
The plan for this house is a customized adaptation of William E. Poole’s Chevy Chase plan. Bursting with Southern charm, the front entry
leads a visitor through an inviting foyer, past a formal dining room, into the heart of the house. Open to the clean and bright eat-in kitchen,
the warm great room brings the outside in with its bank of windows and two doors for accessing the large rear deck. The master suite is
tucked away beyond the kitchen and laundry room, overlooking the tranquil natural landscape behind the house, complete with its own pri-
vate access to the deck. Handsome moldings, reclaimed historic wood floors, double-tumbled bricks, and an overall inescapable attention to
detail are among the many features sure to be valued by the discerning buyer. The perfect balance of formality and relaxed living, town and
country, curated and natural, this home offers an unparalleled opportunity for miles and miles.

6. historic preservation
My introduction to historic pres-
ervation was at the age of 17 when
I was selected to serve on the Wat-
son-Brown Foundation’s junior board
at the Old Governor’s Mansion in
Milledgeville, Georgia. What seemed
like only a good résumé builder at the
time sparked what is now my greatest
passion. Upon graduation from high
school and finishing my term on the
board, the board advisor gave each
graduating student a membership to
the Georgia Trust for Historic Pres-
ervation, involvement with which
continued to foster my newfound love.
While in college, first through the
process of acquiring and rehabilitating
a house for my fraternity (left), and
second through owning and caring for
my own historic home (bottom left,
pg 4), I knew that I had to find a way
to incorporate preservation into my
career. This is what led me to Athens,
where I am currently working toward
a master’s degree in historic preserva-
tion at UGA. One thing that I have
learned is that there is not enough
overlap between the fields of preserva-
tion and real estate. Real estate inves-
tors and developers are generally wary
of what some call “hysterical societ-
ies,” while many preservationists have
had negative experiences with real
estate professionals who are often hap-
hazard with their attention, or inatten-
tion, to proper stewardship of historic
resources. In my own endeavors, I
strive diligently to balance these two
interests. Implementing my recently
acquired knowledge and skills, my
new real estate firm specializes in his-
toric homes, offering a one-stop-shop
guiding home buyers through identi-
fication, acquisition, and restoration
or rehabilitation of historic properties.
The following pages illustrate my most
recently completed major project, a
complete rehab of a 1890s home in
Milledgeville. I oversaw the planning
and execution of entire project from
acquisition straight through to interi-
or decor.
7. The next two pages contain before-and-after photos of my most recent residential rehab project.

10. government affairs
As part of the requirements for my po-
litical science minor, my introduction to
government affairs was a legislative aide
position with Milledgeville’s State Repre-
sentative, Rusty Kidd. I worked for Rusty
at the state capitol for two legislative
sessions (2012-2013) and then managed
his re-election campaign later in 2013.
As his assistant, I organized all constit-
uent hospitality and other constituent
communication and performed various
research activities and analysis for pro-
posed legislation. I was especially happy
to do much of the legwork for the bill
that established the Central State Hos-
pital Local Redevelopment Authority, a
historic preservation initiative seeking to
rehab and re-purpose the campus of what
was once the largest mental institution in
the world, located in Milledgeville—the
campus boasts more than 200 buildings
on more than 2,000 acres. The next
legislative session, 2014, I worked as a
lobbyist with Nelson Mullins Riley
Scarborough, LLP’s Atlanta office, a large
law firm based out of Columbia, SC; I
assisted their lobbying team by contribut-
ing content for their Gold Dome Report
published each legislative day, in which
we covered all action on the House and
Senate floors and all relevant committee
hearings; the reports can be read online
at www.nelsonmullins.com/newsletters.

11. community involvement
I have always tried to find ways to get
involved with the community, regardless
of where I find myself at any time. As
mentioned before, I served on the Wat-
son-Brown Foundation Junior Board
of Trustees in high school. At Georgia
College I was involved in student govern-
ment, serving terms as senator, treasurer,
chairman of government relations, and
vice president. As a member of Kappa
Alpha Order, I served first as treasurer
for two years and then president. I cur-
rently serve as the treasurer and property
manager for our chapter’s housing corpo-
ration. I also very much enjoyed serving
as a member of Georgia College’s student
ambassador team as well as the summer
orientation leader team for several sum-
mers. The organization which gives me
the most personal fulfillment is volun-
teering with HOBY (Hugh O’Brian Youth
Leadership); this is a fast paced summer
weekend seminar for rising high school
juniors. HOBY’s mission is to inspire
and develop our global community of
youth and volunteers to a life dedicated
to leadership, service, and innovation.
My newest endeavors have been serving
on the Georgia College Alumni Associ-
ation Board of Directors, and as a mem-
ber of the Flanner O’Connor Andalusia
Foundation Board of Directors, both in
Milledgeville.

12. desktop publishing
My introductory experience
with desktop publishing was a
result of my role as high school
yearbook editor. Since that time,
I have called upon those skills
for each of the jobs mentioned
in the previous sections. Be it
historic preservation, running a
political campaign, or real estate,
being able to effectively present
one’s work is a big part of the
job; this document itself is meant
to serve as an example of those
very skills. I’m proficient with
Adobe Creative Suite, specifical-
ly Photoshop, InDesign (which
I used for this document), and
Premiere (video production).
The following page contains a
few examples.

14. photography
I was a child when I got my
first camera and immediately
fell in love with photogra-
phy. In high school, I saved
my money for months until I
was able to buy a Nikon D70
SLR camera and soon after
began doing some semi-pro
work for friends and family
in order to finance my new
hobby. Though this is now
just a hobby, it is a skill that
has been useful in real estate
and preservation. Aside from
the photos that I am in, all of
the images in this document I
shot .
