5. DLA/PIP EXEMPTIONS:
BEDROOM TAX(SPARE ROOM SUBSIDY)
14% of the Rent is charged or deducted from
Housing benefit for a Spare room in a Household,
25% is charged for more than 1 spare room.
Spare rooms measuring under 71 square feet i.e. Box
Rooms are exempt in some parts of the UK.
Persons aged 70+ are exempt from Bedroom Tax.
Spare rooms allowed for Child/Tenant/Partner requiring
non-family Carer and on DLA CARE/PIP Enhanced
payments only.
allowed for a Disabled Child who cannot share a room for
medical reasons.
6. DLA/PIP CONSIDERATIONS:
BEDROOM TAX - CONTD
Supported Accommodation with extra Bedroom(s) are not
automatically exempt.
Housing Association accommodation are not automatically
exempt
Children over the age of 18 are considered Adults and not
automatically exempt.
Vulnerable/Disabled Tenants can apply for Discretionary
Housing Payment(DHP)to top up their Housing Benefit to
pay their Rent.
Tenants can Appeal against the Bedroom Tax in writing to
their Local Housing Benefit Office
