What Maps Reveal USING GOOGLE EARTH  TO SEE FAR & WIDE Ronald M. Michonski December  9th  2010
	Classroom Demographics  7th Grade Earth Science Class  Regular Education Class  22 to 25 Students
Lesson Background &  Overview Demonstration in class of Satellite Pictures of the Local Area by use of internet map source.  One Day Demonstration  Using "Google Earth Satellite Class Discussions and Open Group Interactions  Zoom down from space and show the change in perspective as you get closer to the ground.   What familiar landmarks are evident?  What Landmarks are recognizable from space?   Show the design of a corn maze from altitude and then visit the site with satellite maps in hand .   What can we learn from satellite photographs?  How can maps be used to analysis vegetation and the different types of land features?   Learning Objectives: List the Major Geographic Features that you see                                                            Are They Natural or Man-Made?   What can we tell about Agriculture and Population Density?                            Can We Monitor Changes from Year to Year?  How do Satellites Stay in Space? Learning  Standards: Topic: Mapping the Earth Grade: 6, 7, 8 Recognize, interpret, and be able to create models of the earth's common physical features in various mapping representations, including contour maps.   
Lesson Goals & Objectives Learning Objectives: List the Major Geographic Features that you see                                                            Are They Natural or Man-Made?   What can we tell about Agriculture and Population Density?                            Can We Monitor Changes from Year to Year?  How do Satellites Stay in Space? Recognize, interpret, and be able to create models of the earth's common physical features in various mapping representations, including contour maps.
Curriculum Standards Learning  Standards: Topic: Mapping the Earth Grade: 6, 7, 8 1.     Recognize, interpret, and be able to create models of the earth’s common physical features in various mapping representations, including contour maps.
Teaching Using Google Earth   Students will gain a rapid understanding  of  Geographic Contrasts  They will learn about Satellite Imagery They will become proficient in exploring other regions The evidence of Satellite Imagery  supports Map Literacy Topographic Maps  will come alive with Real World Images from Space Students will gain an understanding of Satellite Technology Students will be able to construct Maps using Google Earth Data Changes in the Ice Caps Can be Monitored with Google Earth
