A recent article in the Hindu reports that an online petition seeking the safety of women
customers ordering food online from aggregators has gained steam, garnering over
15,000 signatures. City Police Commissioner, N.S. Megharik added that during a recent
meeting, in which representatives of several IT, BT and ITES companies had
participated, the police reiterated the importance of knowing where the employees
come from. In her online petition on change.org, the victim narrated how she was
harassed by a person who delivered her food.
Currently, the city police is focussing on two main areas who handle background
verification requests. There are private security agencies – which include security for
ATMs kiosks & the school safety guidelines that were formulated. Stricter verification
policies need to be put in place for effective and complete verification.
Companies are awakening to realize that if they are not verifying a person’s identity
first, then they might be believing the records of a wrong person. Hiring companies can
verify candidates through national identities documents like Aadhar, PAN etc.The idea is
to ensure documents are not forged or stolen. Under Aadhar verification, authentication
can be done both, demographically and biometrically, checking against Aadhaar
database. With instant verification in place, verification will become more authentic
and dependable.
