2. My research topic is...
The topic that I will be researching this semester is animal cruelty. This occurs
through different forms such as animal testing, factory farming, zoos, and so
on. Many animals are abused, often times for human advancement. This is
unacceptable and through my research I hope I can find other ways to progress
without harming animals.
3. Historical Context
The issue I am presenting is the unfair and cruel treatment of animals. It goes
back to about the 12th century when people fought dogs for sport. Dog fighting
opened a door for other animals to be used for fighting as well. Today, animal
abuse has been spread through almost every aspect of our lives.
4. Individuals Involved
1. People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA)
2. The Humane Society
3. European Coalition to End Animal Experiments
All of these groups are fighting for different forms of animal cruelty to come to
an end and to reform animal right laws.
5. Questions
1. Why test products and drugs on animals when their reactions can be
different from human reactions?
2. Why are people okay with harming innocent animals?
3. What are alternatives to animal testing?
4. Can we produce the same outcome factory farming does but in a humane
way?
6. My Viewpoint
I think that it is wrong to harm animals for human advancement. In an article
by Green Garage, pros and cons are listed for factory farming. A pro for factory
farming as stated in the article is, “The profit margins of factory farms have
been huge because proper care of animals, where much of farming costs lay,
can be put onto the backseat” (Green Garage). While there may be an increase
in profit, animals still need to be taken care of in the process.
