WATSON BATTY REFERENCE
We began working with Watson Batty back in 2001, when they first assisted with our
Decent Home appraisals and stock improvements.
Watson Batty has always taken care to listen and carefully assess our needs to help us
formulate the right approach for each situation. Their advice has helped us evaluate
numerous options and conclude that sometimes the most sustainable and cost effective
solution is not to refurbish but demolish and regenerate. Their previous experience helped
us successfully deliver our first newbuild project at Mytholm Close in Hebden Bridge, which
had initially been suggested for possible refurbishment. The resulting scheme was a huge
success, significantly assisted by Watson Batty’s significant involvement in the detailed
consultation events with the existing residents.
Since then we have enjoyed a lengthy ongoing partnership with Richard Merrills and the
rest of the Watson Batty team, and have gone on to complete several schemes in the
Illingworth, Todmorden, Heptonstall, Cornholme and Walsden areas of Calderdale. Their
knowledge and experience of sustainable design has been invaluable, particularly the
recent involvement of Stephen Jones, Watson Batty’s Code for Sustainable Homes
Assessor, in helping us pursue new build opportunities that meet the Code to Levels 5 and
6. This represents a huge step forward in the quality and longevity of our housing projects.
