4. Charles Darwin
Darwin was born on February 12th 1809 in
Shrewsbury
In 1831, he joined a five year scientific
expedition on the survey ship HMS Beagle
He is renowned for being on the greatest
scientists to ever live

He was born into a wealth and well
connected family with his paternal
grandfather Erasmus Darwin who was one
of the most clever people of 18th century.
He originally planned to become a
doctor but switched to Science

He also had a great love of nature when
he was a child

Charles Darwin went on an exploration of
South Hemisphere on a ship called HMS
Beagle
The voyage was to last five years
HMS Beagle was a royal navy ship. The
vessel, constructed at a cost of £7,803,
was launched on 11 May 1820 from the
Woolwich Dockyard on the River Thames

The Origin of Species was the book that
was written by Charles Darwin so he could
publish his theory
Although before it was published John
Murray who was his publisher said that
there would be a big outcry so only 1250
copies were printed

Christians were outraged because it
denied the truth of the bible.
In the Bible if you read genesis when god
explained how the world was made in 6
days and then on the 7th day he rested
Darwin's theory consequently went against
the whole scriptures of the Bible

His theory was that animals evolved from
each other and because of Evolution he
said that it was survival of the fittest on
Planet Earth. Survival of the fittest is that the
animals (or plants) best suited to their
environment are more likely to survive and
reproduce, passing on the characteristics,
which helped them survive to their offspring.
