Development of empirical correlations for the heat load estimation in turbine components.
Coordinator for Ergon Research numerical activities in the framework of the publicly funded
research programs (see details below).
2010 – 2014 University of Florence (Industrial Engineering) Research Fellow
This was a concurrent appointment with the University of Florence to expand my experience
in academe and understand how universities deal with the computational analysis of gas turbine
components. Our efforts centered on developing innovative turbine cooling systems. I concurrently
dealt with several EU Research Programs (MAGPI, TECC, ERICKA, KIAI) and co-worked with
main gas turbine manufacturer companies. This greatly expanded my value to Ergon Research.
2. 1
2006 – 2009 University of Florence (Energy Engineering Dept.) PhD Research Assistant
My research focused on the CFD analysis of gas turbine secondary air systems and turbine
cooling related to the EC co-funded project MAGPI (Main Annulus Gas Path Interaction) and
industrial partners. The research findings resulted in a patent.
Patents
Stator-Rotor Assembly for Aero-Engine Turbines 2012
IT2012TO0101220121121
The invention relates generally to improvements in turbomachines, such as aero-engine. It
consists of a stator mounted deflector plate. The device manages to prevent the ingested hot
gas mixing with the cooling flow, where it matters, by directing the hot gas away from the
rotating components.
Research Interests
Heat transfer, GT secondary air system, components thermal management, combustor
cooling, blade cooling, interaction between cavities egress and main annulus flow, stator-rotor
cavities, multi-phase flows, gear boxes, active clearance control systems, acoustics.
