Collective nouns 
Name: 
Nouns that name a group of people, place or thing are 
called COLLECTIVE NOUNS. 
Underline the collective nouns in 
each sentence. 
1. We saw a herd of elephant 
standing next to the 
waterhole. 
2. There was a large crowd at the 
stadium. 
3. Our team came first in the race. 
4. Every year, our family celebrate 
the festive season. 
5. There was a large group of 
people at the conference. 
6. A swarm of bees were coming 
toward us. 
7. The audience gave a standing ovation 
after the concert. 
8. The class gave the teacher a bouquet of flowers 
for her birthday. 
9. An army of ants destroyed our grass. 
10. The class was filled with learners. 
11. There were a fleet of ships in the harbour. 
12. There were a number of supporters at the rugby game. 
13. We saw a pod of whales in the ocean. 
14. A troop of monkeys were at the side of the road. 
15. A pride of lions lay sleepily under the tree.
