THE W.A.R.M
COMMUNITY
GROUP
“Call us service users or students but
I feel the W.A.R.M. group has played
a very important part in breaking our
"mental illness cycle".... Whatever
illness we may have been suffering,
as each of us suffer from either a
different illness or different symptoms
of the same illness! There is always a
"cycle"which we all fear being involved
with. But since being involved with
W.A.R.M. this has definitely slowed
and even broken those cycles! This
comes from the support, confidence
and hope for the future that we all
seem to gain from being part of this
group”.
Current group member
“Our group is a model or blueprint
for other groups. So, we are keen and
willing to work with local
organisations and communities to
discuss what we do and how we do it
and in this way, support you and your
community to establish a W.A.R.M.
group where you are”.
Group Chairman
“I know this will sound overly
dramatic but the W.A.R.M group
has literally turned my life
around!”

2. We Are About Learning
The W.A.R.M Community Group is considered to
be the only local mental health peer to peer
support group with access to all levels of learning
including research. W.A.R.M work with local
learning providers across Torfaen and
Monmouthshire.
Support Is What We Do
Our main role is peer led support where we use
our own experiences and our partnerships to
build social groups and social networks.
Independent Researchers
In addition to our learning ambitions we are also
the only independent research group able to
conduct evaluations of other groups and services.
To support this, we have at our disposal very
skilled researchers who also support our work.
Progression
Progression is our goal—we can decide what we
want and when—now we need to discuss how.
Do you want to be part of this?
Our Success Stories
We have developed from a small group to one
that now has a number of different projects with
our first group member going to university.
Because we provide informal, accessible
learning and support opportunities for anyone
who is interested we work to support you to
move in a direction YOU choose. We will
continue to
create new possibilities,
new opportunities and
maintain the levels of support that
encourage learning and increased
aspiration.
How We Work
We spend time talking and learning while at the
same time building new ideas and challenging
old ones. We use ’giggle’ therapy because this
way we can really enjoy our times at the group.
We are determined to make a difference and we
know that people like you are very important in
taking this message forward.
What We Do
W.A.R.M (Widening Access, Research and
Mentoring) is an independent, research led,
learning and support group run by local people
who have a history of mental health problems.
We have access to all sorts of learning and
support including creative writing, poetry and
research.
Our Story
We have developed by working alongside other
service providers running voluntary social groups.
We do this because we recognise that having a
mental health problem should not prevent you
from being able to do social things, to meet
people, to share experiences, ideas and to talk.
Don’t Panic, We Really Are
Informal
We work by talking and sharing – this means we
are not like other learning groups and you are
under no pressure to do anything you don’t want
to.
