1. To Whom It May Concern,
I would like to offer this letter of recommendation for Rebecca Byrne.
Rebecca is one of my top students here in the School of Communication at Loyola
University Chicago. She is a smart, kind, hard-working, diligent, and ambitious young
woman. Rebecca is a very gifted writer and excellent team player.
I have had the pleasure as serving as Rebecca’s instructor in two classes here at Loyola.
Most recently, she was a staff writer and director of sales and marketing for our student
social justice magazine, Mosaic. The mission of Mosaic is to cover important issues in
Chicago. So Rebecca decided to tackle the Safe Passages program in the Chicago Public
Schools, in which crossing guards help students get safely to school. I was impressed that
Rebecca awoke at dawn one day so she could travel to the tough Back of the Yards
neighborhood to walk the Safe Passages route with elementary school children. She then
wrote an intelligent and compelling story, which appears in the latest edition of Mosaic.
Additionally, Rebecca was the sole student responsible for selling advertisements to pay
for the publication of Mosaic. She raised a record $4,000 selling ads, displaying her
initiative and strong social skills.
As Rebecca was a member of my Internship class, I know that she has done an
outstanding job serving as the Public Relations Manager for West Northfield School
District 31. Here, Rebecca works with top administrators to write articles, news releases,
serve as a spokesperson with reporters, and write and edit the school district’s annual
reports. She has received nothing but high remarks from her supervisors at the district.
I highly recommend Rebecca for a position in communication, public relations,
marketing, writing or editing. She is a high-performing person with lots of enthusiasm
and energy, and she would make a great addition to any organization.
Sincerely,
John T. Slania
