INTRODUCTION
Ibn-Sina Library and Resource Center has
developed their own in-house software
(library Management System, LMS) in which
they enter their books to make these books
searchable for a user in OPAC..
INTRODUCTION
Technical Services
Library technical services are the ongoing maintenance activities of a
library's collection, including the three broad areas of
• Classify
• Cataloging
• Processing.
This section is also considered as back bone of library without
this section no one can perform any task.
Catalogue:
It is a list of books which is arrange on some definite plan. As distinguished
from bibliography, it is list of book in library collection.
Classification
Classify.oclc.org is used to get classification number and if we do not find
number then we have to select it from Dewey Decimal Classification Scheme.
INTRODUCTION
Responsibilities of Technical Section
❖ Assists in drafting bibliographic maintenance and automation policies as
assigned.
❖ Classification and cataloguing of new arrival.
❖ Coordinates technical operations with other library services and functions.
❖ Directs and supervises the operations of the library technical services and staff.
❖ Facilitate the development and upgradation of library databases.
❖ Designate assignments, provide trainings and evaluate subordinate staff
members.
❖ Meets with members of the library and others in order to coordinate activities
and exchange information.
❖ Recommends the adoption of bibliographic maintenance standards and
authorities in an automated environment.
❖ Serves as the library database manager and authority on automation issues.
Responsibilities of Technical Section
❖ Responsible for cross-checking of bibliographic details of existing
cataloguing records.
❖ Responsible for proper printing and pasting of spine labels on information
resources.
❖ Responsible to hand-over the information resources after finalizing
cataloguing to circulation section.
❖ |Write RFD book Tag
Responsibilities of Technical Section
• After acquisition process, the reading material then
shifted to the Technical Section for processing.
• The responsibility of this section is to classify, catalogue
and data entry of the reading material in the library
software LMS.
Technical Processing Section (TPS)
Author Mark
• To differentiate and for recognition, a specific standard is kept by library to given an author mark to
every book. A numerical number is given to an author. This number is chosen for author of this book and
first letter of author’s name, numerical number of this author and first letter of title of this book are
included in author mark.
• We are used for author mark OCLC Dewey Cutter Program V1.10.6
Guidelines for Cataloguing
Step 1
Longing your account
Add email or username and then password
Step 2
Click Manage cataloging
If a set has been cataloged in one format,
appropriate guidelines should be followed
when using the existing records as a basis
for creating records for the new format.
Step 3
If set the new record in the software first search in the software either any
record already available and match bibliography records too in the
software, then enter the new book add a copy number. If not match
bibliography record in any book record so enter the book in software
Add Book Option.
Click Save and next

• Collect all information recto & verso page of the book for bibliography record

Classification According to Dewey Decimal
Classification 23rd ed.
Firstly, add DDC Number according to
Dewey Decimal Classification 23rd ed.,
only five digits add in DDC number after
decimal (.) for example 650.25164
Secondly Cutter number, Use OCLC cuter
Programmed (Accordingly Cutter Sanborn
Four -Figure Table) for catering, add DDC
# + Cuter Number+ year, Cutter number
use just 4 figure+ title first word for
example (297.4 A234B 2014)
7. Title Transcription of the title statement
from the title page (or chief source
of information)
Enter the title just first word letter
use capital other word are used for
small.
8. subtitle Transcription of the title statement
from the title page (or chief source
of information)
Enter the subtitle, add in lowercase.
9. Statement of
Responsibility
Add all author, Editor, translator, as
it writes in the book. (Capitalize
each word).
10. Edition Transcription of the edition
statement from the title page (or
chief source of information)
Transcribe the edition statement
exactly as it appears on the title-
page. You may abbreviate if the
edition statement is very long.

and the year (or probable year) in subfield 'Year of
