Technical Services
Library technical services are the ongoing maintenance activities of a
library's collection, including the three broad areas of
• Classify
• Cataloging
• Processing.
This section is also considered as back bone of library without
this section no one can perform any task.
7. Catalogue:
It is a list of books which is arrange on some definite plan. As distinguished
from bibliography, it is list of book in library collection.
Classification
Classify.oclc.org is used to get classification number and if we do not find
number then we have to select it from Dewey Decimal Classification Scheme.

❖ Assists in drafting bibliographic maintenance and automation policies as
assigned.
❖ Classification and cataloguing of new arrival.
❖ Coordinates technical operations with other library services and functions.
❖ Directs and supervises the operations of the library technical services and staff.
❖ Facilitate the development and upgradation of library databases.

❖ Meets with members of the library and others in order to coordinate activities
and exchange information.

shifted to the Technical Section for processing.
• The responsibility of this section is to classify, catalogue
and data entry of the reading material in the library
software LMS.

• To differentiate and for recognition, a specific standard is kept by library to given an author mark to
every book. A numerical number is given to an author. This number is chosen for author of this book and
first letter of author’s name, numerical number of this author and first letter of title of this book are
included in author mark.
• We are used for author mark OCLC Dewey Cutter Program V1.10.6

If a set has been cataloged in one format,
appropriate guidelines should be followed
when using the existing records as a basis
for creating records for the new format.

If set the new record in the software first search in the software either any
record already available and match bibliography records too in the
software, then enter the new book add a copy number. If not match
bibliography record in any book record so enter the book in software
Add Book Option.
