3. Extended Release Tableting Technology
BlueOcean NutraSciences and its partner CMAX
Technologies, has developed a first on the market
Extended Release Tablet (XR) version of Fish Oil and
Shrimp Oil that are a new delivery method for such oils.
Proven technology used to convert class-2 prescription drugs into more bio-available once-a-day
extended release tablets (e.g. Quetiapine Fumarate XR and Metoprolol Succinate XR).
Current omega-3/astaxanthin formulations using fish oil and shrimp oil (Pure Polar XR).
Custom extended release formulation opportunity for customers who wish to have their own
omega-3/astaxanthin oils made into extended release tablet form.
4. How Enteric Coated Soft Gels Work
Enteric coated soft gels
basically have a layer of
enteric coat to keep the soft
gel from disintegrating and
releasing the oil sooner in
the digestive track.
As the soft gel goes down
through the digestive track,
the enteric coat slowly wares
away, but no oil is released
yet.
Finally once the layers of
coating are worn away, the
oil is released at once.
Typically, the oil has poor
bio-availability as the
stomach or upper intestine
are unable to absorb the
omega-3s due to the form of
the omegas and that there is
not enough time and too
much oil for the body to
absorb at once.
Regular soft gels release all the oil at once much the same as the final phase of an
enteric coated soft gel. The main difference is that the regular soft gel releases the
oil at once further up the digestive track, usually before the stomach or just in the
stomach, but still suffers from “oil overload” in one place at one time.
5. How Extended Release Tablets WorkExtended Release (XR)
tablets are NOT ENTERIC
COATED. The omega oil is
bound in excipients and
carriers, dried and
granulated, and pressed into
tablets.
Once the tablet is consumed
with water, the water
immediately breaks up the
tablets and releases the
granules in your throat and
trachea.
The granules then react with
the various enzymes and
acids in the digestive track.
This releases the bound oil
little by little as the granules
go down the digestive track
and react to release the oil
slowly.
By slowly extending the
release of the oil in small
amounts throughout the
digestive track, the body is
able to absorb the oil in
smaller doses throughout
the track and is not
overwhelmed by one large
dose of oil. It is this principle
that helps to improve the
absorption of the omega-3
oil.
6. Enhanced Bio-Availability – Quetiapine
The graph shows how Quetiapine
Fumarate XR made by CMAX
Technologies compares in bio-equivalency
to Seroquel XR, a branded extended
release, higher bio-available version of
Seroquel instant release (IR) which
typically has poor bio-availability.
