Rahul Gandhi at Chhattisgarh: BJP wants to create two India, one for rich and other for poor
Korba: Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi launched a blistering attack on BJP and said while Congress wants one India where
everyone is respected; BJP wants to create two types of India. “We need just one India – that belongs to both rich and the poor,
equally. BJP makes people fight each other and spreads hatred across the country. BJP wants two Indias – one for rich and the
other of the poor. They promote a politics of anger. Congress works to maintain with love and brotherhood” said Rahul Gandhi
while addressing a Congress poll rally at Korba in Chhattisgarh on Thursday..
“We want to empower our women. We will grant reservation for them in Parliament and assemblies. There will be adequate
representation of women in Congress party too. We could connect crores of women with banks through Self Help Groups. We
want an India where everyone is treated equally and every people get respect” added the Congress leader.
Continuing his scathing criticism on Gujarat model, Rahul Gandhi lamented, “Nowadays there are huge talks by the BJP leaders
and Modi about Gujarat model. They make big claims that BJP could transform Gujarat. I have renamed Gujarat model as toffee
model. What is happening under Gujarat model? About 45000 acres of land were given for at mere Rs 300 crore to a single
industrialist – Adani- by Modi govt. Today, a toffee costs Rs. 1 but Modi government gave lands at Rs. 1. Adani, later, sold these
lands at Rs. 800 per meter and earned huge profit. This is the ‘toffee model’ of BJP. About 40 lakh people in Gujarat are under
BPL. Remember, the state government had redrawn the BPL line @ Rs. 11. Anyone who gets more than Rs. 11 a day is rich in
Gujarat! 40% of the people are not getting adequate drinking water facilities in Gujarat; one out of two kids starves.About 27000
vacancies in government jobs meant for SC/ST remains vacant there. Dalit constitutes 14% of the total population but Modi
government allotted just 5% for their welfare. No jobs are available for the people there. The lands of the poor are being
snatched away by big industrialists. Still BJP boasts ‘Gujarat Model’ and claims Gujarat is shining! What development they are
talking about!”
“They never come to you or ask you about your issues. That is why BJP just copied Congress manifesto and replaced ‘hand’
symbol with its. In BJP, one person has all authority, he takes entire decisions. They do not respect other leaders or people” said
the Congress Vice President in an indirect jibe at BJP’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi.
He urged the people to support Congress in the coming elections so that country can have a government that treats and
respects all equally.
Text of the speech of Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi at Korba, Chhattisgarh
2. In 2004, after forming the Congress-led UPA government at the Centre, we went to the farmers. They told us that they face
difficulties due to huge debts. The banks were not accessible for them. We therefore, waived off loans of the poor farmers
worth Rs. 70000 crore and opened the doors of the banks for them. Further, we enacted food security law so that every poor is
guaranteed with food. Now, no mother will see her child sleeps with empty stomach. Through these right based approaches of
the Congress-led UPA Government at the Centre, we built a strong floor under the feet of the poor. They are at least, ensured
with, job, food and education.
We had held interactions with various sections of the society, before finalising our manifesto for 2014 polls. People had
expressed their happiness with our schemes of granting rights in jobs and food for the poor. But they told us about their
difficulties in availing hospital facilities. They told us that if somebody falls ill in a poor family, it is very difficult to avail adequate
healthcare facilities. We, therefore, decided to grant people a right to health in our manifesto. We will open the doors of
hospitals for the poor. We had Indira Awaaz Yojana but not everyone could avail its benefits. We realised that many poor in our
country still do not have houses. We, therefore, will provide them with right to shelter. Similarly our manifesto also offers right
to pension for old-aged. We want to everyone in our country feels their presence and role in nation building. We want to boost
their confidence and make them self reliant.
What BJP is doing? They just sell out good establishments to some industrialists. In Chhattisgarh, thousands of acres of lands
were given to some businessmen at throw-away prices. We fought the rights of the farmers in Niyamgiri and Bhatta-Parsaul.
When a rich person’s land is acquired he gets adequate price for it but a poor farmer was not able to get the same if his land is
taken away. Their lands were snatched away without giving proper compensation. We went to them, interacted the, realised
their difficulties and fought for their rights. We implemented the revised Land Acquisition law by which every poor gets 4 times
more than the market price when their lands are acquired.
Nowadays there are huge talks by the BJP leaders and Modi about Gujarat model. They make big claims that BJP could transform
Gujarat. I have renamed Gujarat model as toffee model. What is happening under Gujarat model? About 45000 acres of land
were given for at mere Rs 300 crore to a single industrialist – Adani- by Modi govt. Today, a toffee costs Rs. 1 but Modi
government gave lands at Rs. 1. Adani, later, sold these lands at Rs. 800 per meter and earned huge profit. This is the ‘toffee
model’ of BJP. About 40 lakh people in Gujarat are under BPL. Remember, the state government had redrawn the BPL line @ Rs.
11. Anyone who gets more than Rs. 11 a day is rich in Gujarat! 40% of the people are not getting adequate drinking water
facilities in Gujarat; one out of two kids starves.About 27000 vacancies in government jobs meant for SC/ST remain vacant there.
Dalit constitutes 14% of the total population but Modi government allotted just 5% for their welfare. No jobs are available for
the people there. The lands of the poor are being snatched away by big industrialists. Still BJP boasts ‘Gujarat Model’ and claims
Gujarat is shining! What development they are talking about!
Statistics shows that UPA govt made three times more roads than NDA in 5 years. We generated electricity double than them.
We could free about 15 cr people from poverty. We gave people rights. We gave people rights in jobs, food and education and
3. we further plan to give more rights like health and shelter. It is because of this right-based paradigm we could take 15 crore
people out of poverty. But under BJP/ NDA rule, there were no talks about people’s rights and development was less and as a
result poor remained poor. We ensured that your money reaches back to you. That is why we initiated a right-based approach in
our governance. Under NJP rule, the money of the people goes to some selected industrialists like Adani.
Nowadays, if you look at your watches and other devises, you can see a label ‘Made in China’. I want this to be changed and
‘Made in India’ label in all such items. For development, our youth must get job. That is why we have launched a new industrial
corridors project– Delhi-Mumbai, Mumbai-Chennai, Delhi-Kolkata- will generate more jobs for our youth. We will have all
modern infrastructures and dedicated railway lines in that corridor. Japan is helping India for this project. Today China is the
manufacturing capital of the world. We want India to replace China in the future. We want to see ‘Made in India’ or ‘Made in
Chhattisgarh’ and not ‘Made in China’ label on all the watches, cameras, mobiles. Thousands of industries that are going to come
up in these corridors will be the backbone of India. Crore of youths will be able to secure jobs once this is completed.
We took six months to finalise our manifesto. We sought opinions from various sections of society. I happened to see BJP’s
manifesto also. I was surprised to see that they just copied our manifesto. It also has the same proposal like right to health. The
corridor project, which already has been started by us, also finds space in BJP manifesto. Similarly BJP also promises the one-
rank-one-pension scheme for our soldiers which have already been approved by UPA government.
They never come to you or ask you about your issues. That is why BJP just copied Congress manifesto and replaced ‘hand’
symbol with its. In BJP, one person has all authority, he takes entire decisions. They do not respect other leaders or people.
You have a candidate, closely working with you and a real grass root leader. He has done a lot for you for Agricultural University,
railway lines roads and hospitals. He fights for you always. Please send him to Lok Sabha so that he can continue his fight for
you.
We need just one India – that belongs to both rich and the poor, equally. BJP makes people fight each other and spreads hatred
across the country. BJP wants two Indias – one for rich and the other of the poor. They promote a politics of anger. Congress
works to maintain with love and brotherhood.
We want to empower our women. We will grant reservation for them in Parliament and assemblies. There will be adequate
representation of women in Congress party too. We could connect crores of women with banks through Self Help Groups. We
want an India where everyone is treated equally and every people get respect.
Thank you.
Jai Hind.
