Whenshe was a teenager,KarlaQuintanillaimmigratedtothe UnitedStates,all onherown.Employed
as a private nannyand housekeepertosupportherextendedfamilyinEl Salvador,she enrolledinthe
CarlosRosarioInternational PublicCharterSchool inDCto learnEnglish.
Upon completinghereducation,ajobdeveloperfromthe CarlosRosarioSchool assistedQuintanillain
gainingemploymentatChildren’sHealthCenter –AdamsMorgan at Children’sNational HealthSystem.
Aftersevenyearsof working atthe HealthCenter,Quintanillajoinedthe Clinical Resource Management
departmentatChildren’sNational.While workingfull-time,she completedherAssociate’sDegree.
Quintanilla’semploymentinaclinical settinginspiredhertopursue adegree in nursing.She will
graduate withherBSN fromthe Universidaddel TuraboinJune 2016.

Recently,astaff memberatthe Carlos RosarioSchool helpedQuintanillasecure a$14,000 scholarship
fromThe CaucusSalvadoreño Empresarial,Inc.tocoverthe remainderof hereducationexpenses.Her
personal storywaslaterfeaturedonthe broadcast networkTelemundo.
Quintanillasayshermanagersat Children’sNational have alwaysbeenflexible andencouraging,seen
potential inher,andgivenheropportunities.She hopestoworkasa Nurse at Children’sonce she
completesherdegree.
