WHY: Treeswing (www.treeswing.org) is a Seattle nonprofit working to combat
childhood obesity through innovative programs and partnerships focused on
increased physical activity. The JumpUp initiative, created in partnership with
Seattle Children’s to give young children the opportunity to jump for fun and
fitness, will distribute a free jump-rope kit to each of the 4,000 kindergarten-
ers in the Seattle Public Schools. Included with each jump rope is information
for parents about the importance of getting kids to be active from an early age
and the risks associated with childhood obesity.
