These technologies have not only increased food production, processing, and preservation
but also have made tremendous improvement in terms of food safety, food quality and
nutritional adequacy. The major challenges of the coming future will be demographic
change, consumer demands, advancement in technologies and global competitive
pressures.

RECOMMENDATIONS
Following recommendations are derived from deliberations of eminent speakers and
interaction with the delegates in the two-day Food Innovation Summit.
Food and agriculture is at the heart of our civilizations. Many religions and cultures
celebrate various aspects of food and agriculture due to the importance in our
continuity. The global food crisis that has made headlines in past some years has
been simmering for a while. The rise in food prices, adulteration in food items,
depletion of food standards and food quality so on and so forth are the major
challenges that is affecting the generation, has a variety of causes, mostly man-
made.
Create awareness and organized capacity building programmes about the recent
innovations among the MSMEs in food sector.
Make available the information about the innovations in food industry in a dedicated
portal so that everyone gets first hand information on the recent development in
this sector and there is no re-inventing of the wheel.
Encourage Entrepreneurs in the form of Scheme or subsidy for
establishing/procuring some of innovative products.
Provide a dynamic business environment for enhanced expansion of food sector,
massive awareness building is an utmost requirement for growth in business.
The practice of harnessing and promoting entrepreneurial management in food
industry should permeate at all levels and not confined to top levels and Research &
Development (R&D) institutions only.
Have a comprehensive framework including cluster development, technology
development and single window clearance for starting new business venture in food
processing sector.
4. Launch a dedicated TV channel for food sector which should telecast latest
developments, winning examples, professional help and advice from the experts on
regular basis.
Tax structures should be relaxed for start-ups to raise low and medium term loans.
Need to have a Central repository for all the information related to Schemes, Loans,
Investors, etc. in the food sector
Focus should be on holistic innovations. Ministry of Agriculture and Ministry of Food
Processing Industries may include introduction of different category of awards for
encouragement (state wise, product/service wise, and demography wise). These
awards should highlight the element of innovations involved in formulation of
product/service. Micro innovations are equally important.
MSME sector should have access to Research Centers, CSIR labs and R&D labs at a
nominal cost or fee.
Ideas can be converted to reality through engineering kitchens. Promote linkages
between Industry and Academia for the same.
Launch Goods and Services tax (GST) regime. Ensure that all the existing tax benefits
are adequately subsumed in the GST regime. Mandi taxes and other related taxes
should be reviewed.
Food Companies should get themselves listed on the MSME platform to get the
attention from the Banks, Financers and Investors.
Give the status of Hi-Tech industry to the Food processing industry
Establish Model Agro-Processing Centers- these centers should demonstrate latest
equipments and techniques
Emphasis should be given on developing indigenous regionally differentiated
products and technologies
Review the Market Regulatory Framework to establish new market for facilitating
the entry of start-ups
