Imperialism In Florida
Florida joined the United States as a state on March 3, 1845; the 27th state. Spanish explorer Juan Ponce de Leon landed in Northeast Florida to claim
Florida for Spain. He named the state in tribute to Spain's Easter celebration known as "Pascua Florida", or Feast of Flower. Soon after, it was known
as the sunshine state. In the 20th century, tourism became Florida's leading industry and has remained this way today. The Spanish had great
expectations of Florida despite of the obstacles they had to face, although some obstacles became successful in Florida. The French Settlement of
Florida began in 1562 and found themselves on the St. Johns River not far from the Spanish settlement at St. Augustine. "Cpt. Jean Ribaut was sent

Throughout his voyage he had trouble reaching Florida due to the weather and the loss of several ships. When Menendez finally arrived, his first
goal was to kick the French out of Florida and take ownership of the land from the French. He started out by building a fort in St. Augustine and
prepared his men for battle. Ribaut returns to Florida and attempts to attack the new Spanish colony and capture St. Augustine. But the storm
prevented Ribaut from returning to Florida. Menendez then traveled north and attacked Fort Caroline surprising the French defenders. Menendez
won the battle, destroyed all the forts built by the French and even went out at sea to destroy Ribaut's ships including Ribaut himself. Menendez
became the first Spanish colonial governor in Florida and wanted to confirm that all of Florida remained under the control of Spain. Menendez and
his men built many watch towers to use as lookouts. Menendez also began building forts along the coast. "He requested to import settle farmers and
carry 500 settlers (Gannon, 51)." He promised: "I will give them lands and east states for their farms, a dozen cows with one bull, two oxen for

My Summer Vacation in Florida Essay
Have you ever been on a vacation? To me a vacation is a time to be with friends or family. When I think of vacations, I think of packing, the flight or
drive, and relaxation. Not only is it very exciting to go on a vacation, but you get closer to the people that go with you.
Linda, my best friend's mom had asked me if I would want to go with their family to Florida. When she asked me I thought she was kidding, but when
she said, "I need to know because if you are I need to get you a airplane ticket," I knew she was serious. I was so excited I could have kissed her. I was
going to Florida with my best friend, Lisa, and her family. The people from Lisa's family that were going were Tina, Randy, Ashley, and Linda. Tina is

Although the drive was three hours the time went fast before I knew it we were at the airport.
I had never been on an airplane. My stomach felt like I had just eaten rotten fish and I was about to throw up. I was so excited to go, but at the
same time I was scared because I had never been on a plane. We waited in the airport for at least an hour. Finally our flight was called, as I walked
on the plane my heart was about to jump out of my skin. After the flight attendant had went through all the rules and we put our seat belts on the plane
was going to take off. I thought the worst thing about the flight was taking off and landing. I didn?t like taking off and landing because my ears
popped. Other than the fact that my ears popped taking off and landing the flight went smooth, we didn?t crash. When the plane landed, I couldn?t wait
to stand on solid ground again.
When I got off the plane the first thing I saw was a giant palm tree. It wasn?t like the palm trees you see in pictures. This palm tree was kind of ugly
it was about thirty feet tall, the leaves at the top looked like they were dead, and it was leaning to the right. Other than that palm tree it was a beautiful
day. It was ninety seven degrees, but it didn?t feel like Minnesota?s ninety seven degrees because there wasn?t much humidity. Before we could leave

THE EVERGLADES: RIVER OF GRASS
The Everglades, also known as the River of Grass, is one of South Florida's most treasured areas. It is an area still full of wonder and mystery. The
Everglades is lined with a specific type of limestone bedrock formed by tiny organisms called byrozoans. These animals, though not related to coral,
act like coral by extracting dissolved limestone from the sea water around them and using it to construct protective chambers in which to live. They
then attach to various kinds of sea grasses on the ocean floor and coat them as well. Individual chambers combine together to form rock–like structures.
Over thousands of years, when South Florida was completely submerged, a vast amount of this limestone...show more content...
Another important piece of the Everglades puzzle is periphyton (a cyanobacteria or algae) that provides the basis for the Everglades food chain and
helps purify the water. Periphyton provides both food and oxygen for the aquatic ecosystem. Just like alligator holes, periphyton is also important
during the dry season because of their ability to retain water.
One hundred years ago the Everglades covered close to 4 million acres between Lake Okeechobee and the Gulf of Mexico. Billions of gallons of
water flowed into the Everglades. The population of the East coast of Florida was 23,000. This was partially due to a lack of suitable land for
housing because of periodic flooding and the threat of hurricanes. When Florida was first becoming settled there were many attempts by settlers to
make the area more hospitable. Most of these attempts failed. It was after two devastating hurricanes (1926 and 1928) that the Federal government
had the US Army Corps of Engineers create a system of canals, levies, and dikes to further development of that area. They diverted much of the
normal southward flow of water eastward. This allowed 1.3 million acres to be developed. It also left 2 million acres for the Everglades National
Park and water conservation areas. 1 million acres was left for agricultural use (Everglades Agricultural

The Florida Everglades
The Florida Everglades have been adversely impacted for decades because of human attempts to control this historical 'River of Grass'. The reason for
our insistence on attempting to control and manage the area can be defined in one word: water. There has always been plenty of water available within
the Everglades' ecosystem, but no logical way to extract it. Our extraction efforts eventually led to devastating results. My paper will focus on the
initial policy and practices involved in the extensive downgrading of this once biologically unequaled ecosystem; as well as discuss recent policy
initiatives that have been implemented in order to restore the Everglades to its once magnificent status. I will attempt...show more content...
For more than 50 years since the Central and Southern Florida Project, major ventures have been ongoing which have focused on the provision of fresh
water for human–development projects and flood protection. In order to provide water for residential, commercial, and agricultural uses, the natural
flow of hundreds of small rivers and streams contained within the Everglades were altered. Revisions included redirecting river flows from winding to
straight, draining wetland areas to provide agricultural land, and channelizing rivers by creating high concrete banks to provide flood control.
Consequently, the Everglades and its dependent natural community have been highly impacted in the most adverse way.
However, recently this all began to change. In the late summer of 2000, Congress passed the REAL Act, (Restoring the Everglades– an American
Legacy Act) which puts forth a plan to revitalize the Everglade ecosystem by removing much of the canal system present, allowing wetlands to be
re–established and protected, and generally making it an equal priority to leave water within the ecosystem as it has traditionally been to send it out of
the Everglades to aid in human settlement. This congressional act is the culmination of decades of hard work by environmental advocates, and marks
the first instance in history that a major waterworks project overseen by the Army Corps of

Personal Narrative: My Trip To Florida
The Experience
It was early June, and my birthday was right around the corner. My mother and father told me this tenth birthday would be a birthday I would
never forget. Sunday morning we woke up out of bed, ate a tiny breakfast, and packed the car till mom's last purple bag barely fit. I asked where were
we going and why we had packed so much, but I never got an answer. I later discovered that we would be taking a plane to Florida, where I would
eventually get lost, and a very interesting car ride home.
First, we arrived at the airport at sunset, and the sun began to start sinking below the building. We unpacked the vehicle and walked to the
revolving doors that were marked ''Entrance C''. My mom and I sat down in seats that were in small rows while my dad made sure the tickets and
luggage was all correct. We had an hour and a half delay. Once we entered I noticed the plane was completely filled. We sat down in our seats and
patiently waited for the plane to take off. As I...show more content...

amusement park/waterpark with water slides, roller coasters, and many other activates. We started riding rides and going down slides once we
walked in to Bush gardens. When we got off the last ride of the day, I waked away from my parents and when I turned around they were nowhere
to be found. I was very scared. I started looking for my parent everywhere, but could not find them. As I sat on a bench, a man walked up to me and
said are you lost? We have found your parents they are worried sick looking for you. The older man brought me to my parents and told them I was

Essay on The Florida Everglades
Introduction
Maintaining ecological diversity is necessary for the survival of a biological community. In the United States, American citizens are on the verge of
irrevocably damaging one of the country's most unique and diverse treasures – the Florida Everglades. This national park is now the only remaining
patch of a river that used to span 120 miles from Lake Okeechobee to the Florida Bay. Dikes and levees created by the Army Corps of Engineers in the
late 1940's drained this river to reduce flooding and increase useable water for the development of the region. This major diversion of water lead to a
trickle down effect causing the continual decline of the environmental state of the Everglades. Since then, debates over the...show more content...
Truman / Address At Dedication of EvergladesNational Park (Carr, 1981)
Nearly as large as the state of New Jersey, the Everglades used to measure about 6,000 square miles (Bucks, 1998). The Everglades was a complex
wetland consisting of a mosaic of ecosystems. The heart of the Everglades was a slow moving body of water with a span of one hundred twenty
miles long and forty miles wide with an average depth of six inches to two feet of water (Lauber,1973). This broad shallow, often called the "river
of grass," was covered in a blanket of saw grass (not actually a grass but a sedge) that slowly drained the water from its main source, Lake
Okeechobee, all the way to the southernmost tip of the state and into the Florida Bay. Shaped much like a saucer, when full Lake Okeechobee would
send its overflow spilling into the shallows of the Everglades river. This natural filling process, along with the wet season's rains, is what fed the flow
of the Everglades and the underlying aquifers for centuries.
The grass in the Everglades was very important to the evolution of the land and the water. It rooted itself in the soft limestone that arose from the
ocean bottom from an accumulating deposition of seashells. The saw grass prospered and went through the seasonal death and rebirth, covering the
limestone with its decaying leaves. A spongy mass of peat then arose from the decay soaking up the rains in the wet season

The City Of Orlando Florida
Since the humble beginnings of the American industrial revolution, the urban city has been the pinnacle of rapid development and robust growth.
Despite the efforts of notable city planners such as Sir Ebenezer Howard, Peter Calthorpe and Andres Duany the potential of true sustainable
development has not been realized by the majority of urban cities. The inevitable question asserts how cities can continue growth and development
while corroborating the triple bottom line as a framework for virtually every city.
The urban city by modern definition is characterized by a broken community structure, dangerous high density, and a lack of sustainable design. The
city of Orlando Florida is a quintessential example of a city designed not on...show more content...
Education
At the foundation of every issue in the broad scope of sustainability is a fundamental lack of proper environmental education as an individual, which
ultimately permeates into all of society. The education referred to here is not simply the standardized tests, memorizing and essays of the modern day
classroom but the education, which takes place at home. As children, there is a universal myth that has been passed down since the golden age of the
industrial revolution. This idea of the American dream informs virtually every decision Americans make and how society is structured. Simply put:
"Get an education, get a Job, have children, acquire wealth, capital and leave a legacy before you die." The fundamental problem with this is that there
is no mention of our most basic responsibility, as environmental stewards. In short this anthropocentric paradigm acts a rearguard for sustainable
development and begins as early as the conception of language in a child's life.
Over the course of the next 15 years there are very simple yet, crucial strategies that must be in place to amend not the foundational goals of America or
the American dream but rather, the means of achieving it. This calls first for a new approach to the environmental movement: disregard everything that
has been labeled and stigmatized as environmentalism. Instead the education infrastructure must be replaced with the institution of logic and respect for

Descriptive Essay: Cloudy Day In Florida
Fort Lauderdale, FL, U.S.
Saturday February 18th to Sunday February 19th
This weekend will kick off to a considerably cloudy start with a high of 81В°F, low of 69В°F. There is a 20% chance of precipitation and 68% relative
humidity. The following day is very much similar with an expectation of PM showers, a high of 85В°F, low of 68В°F, and 40% chance ofprecipitation.
There are not any severe weather for this week, compared to California's warning of flash flooding. In general, even though Florida is the "Sunshine
State", it has the tendency to be partly cloudy, especially between . This is the result of warm waters surrounding Florida which evaporates, becomes
water vapor, and creates clouds.

The windspeed is highest of the week on Monday coming for North–West at 16 mph. Tuesday is expected to be mostly sunny with a high of 41В°F,
low of 29В°F and the windspeed is greatly decreased to 3 mph coming for the South. Although mostly sunny and party cloud similar enough to be
the same, it is not. In a forecast "Partly cloudy" is used to describe when less than half of a day will be cloudy versus "partly sunny" which signifies
that more than half of the day will be cloudy. ("partly cloudy" can also be used to describe the sky at night since "partly moony" does not sound
correct). Cloud coverage is determine by using okta or usually 1/8 of the sky. Conditions such as "mostly cloudy" are equal to 6/8–7/8 opaque clouds
while "party sunny" is equal to 3/8–5/8 opaque clouds. Expect a wintry mix on Wednesday which essentially means in this case there will be arain and
snow mix in the afternoon and evening. The likelihood of precipitation is 80% which is a big leap compared to Tuesday's 0%. Thursday is expected to
be partly cloudy with a high of 40В°F, low of 21В°F, and a 10% chance of precipitation. Friday and Saturday are both expected to be sunny with a high
of 36В°F, low of 22В°F, and high of 41В°F, low of 24В°F respectively. both days have a 0% chance of precipitation and Friday's windspeed in 12 mph

Florida Personal Narrative
Florida Last summer was a real blast! I went to Florida to visit my family for a week, and Malik came with me. I hadn't seen my Florida family in so
long, and my New York family came too. Meanwhile everyone was having fun and enjoying each other's company, I was sad because it was going to
be my last week with my main companion pup, since pre–k, Splinter. I loved every minute of Florida; I was praying the time there would never end.
So finally we reach my grandma's house after a nine hour car ride with two slobbery dogs, two grouchy teens, and one fed up aunt. When we got
out of the car there were millions of endless hugs and kisses, and you can't forget about the "How are you? I missed you so much"es. But I've been
sweating like a pig for way too any hours and all I could think about was how cold that pool would be when I plop into it. After cooling down we had
family time and managed to stay up till the crack of dawn late instead of taking our behinds to bed. The next day my New York family flew down, but
they were way too tired to take on the adventures the next day would bring us.
My grandma, aunt, Malik, and I all went to a mew water park, in Orlando, called "Volcano Bay". It was a wild day that we definitely weren't ready for.
I lost my voice that day screaming at the slides for taking my stomach away. After we got off this gigantic green slide all our stomachs were aching
for some pizza and burgers. Don't ever let someone fool you; water parks always

Florida Everglades Research Paper
Over a time period of many years, the Florida Everglades have been harmed. This is due not only to the fact that the Everglades were almost entirely
drained, but also the fact that extremely hazardous chemicals are being put into the Everglades. However many organizations are helping the
Everglades get their water quality and pollution under control. First and foremost, a main reason why the water supply to the everglades is having a
bad effect, is because of all of the past draining. As stated in source 1 (The Florida Everglades) it says "From 1905–1910 , the settlers coverted the
land... the Everglades were nearly drained entirely." This shows that these new settlers wanted to get rid of the Everglades completely. As a result to
their actions the Florida lost 50% of the wildlife's population and diversity. This also included the subtropical wilderness of the Everglades. Which
contained grassy marshes, hardwood hammocks, and mangrove forests. The draining of the Everglades was only one of the reasons why that the water

One example, as stated in source 3 ( Water Quality Nearly Halts Everglades Restoration) is of the Act that was made. " As a result, the Everglades
Forever Acts was passed in 1995 by then– governor Lawton Chiles." This shows that many people cared about the Florida Everglades enough to get
an Act passed. This Act helped very much in the lowering of pollution at the state park. Another reason why the pollution levels went down and the
quality levels went up is because of the storm water treatment. the Everglades they would act as filters for the pollution. When placed into the
Everglades they would act as filters for the pollution. These are just two of the examples to help explain why the Florida Everglades are still here, and
why the water supply on the park is starting to get

  • 3. Imperialism In Florida Florida joined the United States as a state on March 3, 1845; the 27th state. Spanish explorer Juan Ponce de Leon landed in Northeast Florida to claim Florida for Spain. He named the state in tribute to Spain's Easter celebration known as "Pascua Florida", or Feast of Flower. Soon after, it was known as the sunshine state. In the 20th century, tourism became Florida's leading industry and has remained this way today. The Spanish had great expectations of Florida despite of the obstacles they had to face, although some obstacles became successful in Florida. The French Settlement of Florida began in 1562 and found themselves on the St. Johns River not far from the Spanish settlement at St. Augustine. "Cpt. Jean Ribaut was sent from Spain...show more content... Throughout his voyage he had trouble reaching Florida due to the weather and the loss of several ships. When Menendez finally arrived, his first goal was to kick the French out of Florida and take ownership of the land from the French. He started out by building a fort in St. Augustine and prepared his men for battle. Ribaut returns to Florida and attempts to attack the new Spanish colony and capture St. Augustine. But the storm prevented Ribaut from returning to Florida. Menendez then traveled north and attacked Fort Caroline surprising the French defenders. Menendez won the battle, destroyed all the forts built by the French and even went out at sea to destroy Ribaut's ships including Ribaut himself. Menendez became the first Spanish colonial governor in Florida and wanted to confirm that all of Florida remained under the control of Spain. Menendez and his men built many watch towers to use as lookouts. Menendez also began building forts along the coast. "He requested to import settle farmers and carry 500 settlers (Gannon, 51)." He promised: "I will give them lands and east states for their farms, a dozen cows with one bull, two oxen for Get more content on HelpWriting.net

  • 7. My Summer Vacation in Florida Essay Have you ever been on a vacation? To me a vacation is a time to be with friends or family. When I think of vacations, I think of packing, the flight or drive, and relaxation. Not only is it very exciting to go on a vacation, but you get closer to the people that go with you. Linda, my best friend's mom had asked me if I would want to go with their family to Florida. When she asked me I thought she was kidding, but when she said, "I need to know because if you are I need to get you a airplane ticket," I knew she was serious. I was so excited I could have kissed her. I was going to Florida with my best friend, Lisa, and her family. The people from Lisa's family that were going were Tina, Randy, Ashley, and Linda. Tina is Lis'?s sister,...show more content... Although the drive was three hours the time went fast before I knew it we were at the airport. I had never been on an airplane. My stomach felt like I had just eaten rotten fish and I was about to throw up. I was so excited to go, but at the same time I was scared because I had never been on a plane. We waited in the airport for at least an hour. Finally our flight was called, as I walked on the plane my heart was about to jump out of my skin. After the flight attendant had went through all the rules and we put our seat belts on the plane was going to take off. I thought the worst thing about the flight was taking off and landing. I didn?t like taking off and landing because my ears popped. Other than the fact that my ears popped taking off and landing the flight went smooth, we didn?t crash. When the plane landed, I couldn?t wait to stand on solid ground again. When I got off the plane the first thing I saw was a giant palm tree. It wasn?t like the palm trees you see in pictures. This palm tree was kind of ugly it was about thirty feet tall, the leaves at the top looked like they were dead, and it was leaning to the right. Other than that palm tree it was a beautiful day. It was ninety seven degrees, but it didn?t feel like Minnesota?s ninety seven degrees because there wasn?t much humidity. Before we could leave we had to wait for Get more content on HelpWriting.net

  • 9. The Florida Everglades Essay examples THE EVERGLADES: RIVER OF GRASS The Everglades, also known as the River of Grass, is one of South Florida's most treasured areas. It is an area still full of wonder and mystery. The Everglades is lined with a specific type of limestone bedrock formed by tiny organisms called byrozoans. These animals, though not related to coral, act like coral by extracting dissolved limestone from the sea water around them and using it to construct protective chambers in which to live. They then attach to various kinds of sea grasses on the ocean floor and coat them as well. Individual chambers combine together to form rock–like structures. Over thousands of years, when South Florida was completely submerged, a vast amount of this limestone...show more content... Another important piece of the Everglades puzzle is periphyton (a cyanobacteria or algae) that provides the basis for the Everglades food chain and helps purify the water. Periphyton provides both food and oxygen for the aquatic ecosystem. Just like alligator holes, periphyton is also important during the dry season because of their ability to retain water. One hundred years ago the Everglades covered close to 4 million acres between Lake Okeechobee and the Gulf of Mexico. Billions of gallons of water flowed into the Everglades. The population of the East coast of Florida was 23,000. This was partially due to a lack of suitable land for housing because of periodic flooding and the threat of hurricanes. When Florida was first becoming settled there were many attempts by settlers to make the area more hospitable. Most of these attempts failed. It was after two devastating hurricanes (1926 and 1928) that the Federal government had the US Army Corps of Engineers create a system of canals, levies, and dikes to further development of that area. They diverted much of the normal southward flow of water eastward. This allowed 1.3 million acres to be developed. It also left 2 million acres for the Everglades National Park and water conservation areas. 1 million acres was left for agricultural use (Everglades Agricultural Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 10. Florida Everglades Essay The Florida Everglades The Florida Everglades have been adversely impacted for decades because of human attempts to control this historical 'River of Grass'. The reason for our insistence on attempting to control and manage the area can be defined in one word: water. There has always been plenty of water available within the Everglades' ecosystem, but no logical way to extract it. Our extraction efforts eventually led to devastating results. My paper will focus on the initial policy and practices involved in the extensive downgrading of this once biologically unequaled ecosystem; as well as discuss recent policy initiatives that have been implemented in order to restore the Everglades to its once magnificent status. I will attempt...show more content... For more than 50 years since the Central and Southern Florida Project, major ventures have been ongoing which have focused on the provision of fresh water for human–development projects and flood protection. In order to provide water for residential, commercial, and agricultural uses, the natural flow of hundreds of small rivers and streams contained within the Everglades were altered. Revisions included redirecting river flows from winding to straight, draining wetland areas to provide agricultural land, and channelizing rivers by creating high concrete banks to provide flood control. Consequently, the Everglades and its dependent natural community have been highly impacted in the most adverse way. However, recently this all began to change. In the late summer of 2000, Congress passed the REAL Act, (Restoring the Everglades– an American Legacy Act) which puts forth a plan to revitalize the Everglade ecosystem by removing much of the canal system present, allowing wetlands to be re–established and protected, and generally making it an equal priority to leave water within the ecosystem as it has traditionally been to send it out of the Everglades to aid in human settlement. This congressional act is the culmination of decades of hard work by environmental advocates, and marks the first instance in history that a major waterworks project overseen by the Army Corps of Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 11. Personal Narrative: My Trip To Florida The Experience It was early June, and my birthday was right around the corner. My mother and father told me this tenth birthday would be a birthday I would never forget. Sunday morning we woke up out of bed, ate a tiny breakfast, and packed the car till mom's last purple bag barely fit. I asked where were we going and why we had packed so much, but I never got an answer. I later discovered that we would be taking a plane to Florida, where I would eventually get lost, and a very interesting car ride home. First, we arrived at the airport at sunset, and the sun began to start sinking below the building. We unpacked the vehicle and walked to the revolving doors that were marked ''Entrance C''. My mom and I sat down in seats that were in small rows while my dad made sure the tickets and luggage was all correct. We had an hour and a half delay. Once we entered I noticed the plane was completely filled. We sat down in our seats and patiently waited for the plane to take off. As I...show more content... Bush Gardens is an amusement park/waterpark with water slides, roller coasters, and many other activates. We started riding rides and going down slides once we walked in to Bush gardens. When we got off the last ride of the day, I waked away from my parents and when I turned around they were nowhere to be found. I was very scared. I started looking for my parent everywhere, but could not find them. As I sat on a bench, a man walked up to me and said are you lost? • 15. Essay on The Florida Everglades Introduction Maintaining ecological diversity is necessary for the survival of a biological community. In the United States, American citizens are on the verge of irrevocably damaging one of the country's most unique and diverse treasures – the Florida Everglades. This national park is now the only remaining patch of a river that used to span 120 miles from Lake Okeechobee to the Florida Bay. Dikes and levees created by the Army Corps of Engineers in the late 1940's drained this river to reduce flooding and increase useable water for the development of the region. This major diversion of water lead to a trickle down effect causing the continual decline of the environmental state of the Everglades. Since then, debates over the...show more content... Truman / Address At Dedication of EvergladesNational Park (Carr, 1981) Nearly as large as the state of New Jersey, the Everglades used to measure about 6,000 square miles (Bucks, 1998). The Everglades was a complex wetland consisting of a mosaic of ecosystems. The heart of the Everglades was a slow moving body of water with a span of one hundred twenty miles long and forty miles wide with an average depth of six inches to two feet of water (Lauber,1973). This broad shallow, often called the "river of grass," was covered in a blanket of saw grass (not actually a grass but a sedge) that slowly drained the water from its main source, Lake Okeechobee, all the way to the southernmost tip of the state and into the Florida Bay. Shaped much like a saucer, when full Lake Okeechobee would send its overflow spilling into the shallows of the Everglades river. This natural filling process, along with the wet season's rains, is what fed the flow of the Everglades and the underlying aquifers for centuries. The grass in the Everglades was very important to the evolution of the land and the water. It rooted itself in the soft limestone that arose from the ocean bottom from an accumulating deposition of seashells. The saw grass prospered and went through the seasonal death and rebirth, covering the limestone with its decaying leaves. A spongy mass of peat then arose from the decay soaking up the rains in the wet season Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 16. The City Of Orlando Florida Since the humble beginnings of the American industrial revolution, the urban city has been the pinnacle of rapid development and robust growth. Despite the efforts of notable city planners such as Sir Ebenezer Howard, Peter Calthorpe and Andres Duany the potential of true sustainable development has not been realized by the majority of urban cities. The inevitable question asserts how cities can continue growth and development while corroborating the triple bottom line as a framework for virtually every city. The urban city by modern definition is characterized by a broken community structure, dangerous high density, and a lack of sustainable design. The city of Orlando Florida is a quintessential example of a city designed not on...show more content... Education At the foundation of every issue in the broad scope of sustainability is a fundamental lack of proper environmental education as an individual, which ultimately permeates into all of society. The education referred to here is not simply the standardized tests, memorizing and essays of the modern day classroom but the education, which takes place at home. As children, there is a universal myth that has been passed down since the golden age of the industrial revolution. This idea of the American dream informs virtually every decision Americans make and how society is structured. Simply put: "Get an education, get a Job, have children, acquire wealth, capital and leave a legacy before you die." The fundamental problem with this is that there is no mention of our most basic responsibility, as environmental stewards. In short this anthropocentric paradigm acts a rearguard for sustainable development and begins as early as the conception of language in a child's life. Over the course of the next 15 years there are very simple yet, crucial strategies that must be in place to amend not the foundational goals of America or the American dream but rather, the means of achieving it. This calls first for a new approach to the environmental movement: disregard everything that has been labeled and stigmatized as environmentalism. Instead the education infrastructure must be replaced with the institution of logic and respect for Get more content on HelpWriting.net

In a forecast "Partly cloudy" is used to describe when less than half of a day will be cloudy versus "partly sunny" which signifies that more than half of the day will be cloudy. ("partly cloudy" can also be used to describe the sky at night since "partly moony" does not sound correct). Cloud coverage is determine by using okta or usually 1/8 of the sky. Conditions such as "mostly cloudy" are equal to 6/8–7/8 opaque clouds while "party sunny" is equal to 3/8–5/8 opaque clouds. Expect a wintry mix on Wednesday which essentially means in this case there will be arain and snow mix in the afternoon and evening. The likelihood of precipitation is 80% which is a big leap compared to Tuesday's 0%. Thursday is expected to be partly cloudy with a high of 40В°F, low of 21В°F, and a 10% chance of precipitation. Friday and Saturday are both expected to be sunny with a high of 36В°F, low of 22В°F, and high of 41В°F, low of 24В°F respectively. both days have a 0% chance of precipitation and Friday's windspeed in 12 mph from North–West compared to Saturday's 11mph wind speed coming from West, Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 18. Florida Personal Narrative Florida Last summer was a real blast! I went to Florida to visit my family for a week, and Malik came with me. I hadn't seen my Florida family in so long, and my New York family came too. Meanwhile everyone was having fun and enjoying each other's company, I was sad because it was going to be my last week with my main companion pup, since pre–k, Splinter. I loved every minute of Florida; I was praying the time there would never end. So finally we reach my grandma's house after a nine hour car ride with two slobbery dogs, two grouchy teens, and one fed up aunt. When we got out of the car there were millions of endless hugs and kisses, and you can't forget about the "How are you? I missed you so much"es. But I've been sweating like a pig for way too any hours and all I could think about was how cold that pool would be when I plop into it. After cooling down we had family time and managed to stay up till the crack of dawn late instead of taking our behinds to bed. The next day my New York family flew down, but they were way too tired to take on the adventures the next day would bring us. My grandma, aunt, Malik, and I all went to a mew water park, in Orlando, called "Volcano Bay". It was a wild day that we definitely weren't ready for. I lost my voice that day screaming at the slides for taking my stomach away. After we got off this gigantic green slide all our stomachs were aching for some pizza and burgers. Don't ever let someone fool you; water parks always Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 19. Florida Everglades Research Paper Over a time period of many years, the Florida Everglades have been harmed. This is due not only to the fact that the Everglades were almost entirely drained, but also the fact that extremely hazardous chemicals are being put into the Everglades. However many organizations are helping the Everglades get their water quality and pollution under control. First and foremost, a main reason why the water supply to the everglades is having a bad effect, is because of all of the past draining. As stated in source 1 (The Florida Everglades) it says "From 1905–1910 , the settlers coverted the land... the Everglades were nearly drained entirely." This shows that these new settlers wanted to get rid of the Everglades completely. As a result to their actions the Florida lost 50% of the wildlife's population and diversity. This also included the subtropical wilderness of the Everglades. Which contained grassy marshes, hardwood hammocks, and mangrove forests. The draining of the Everglades was only one of the reasons why that the water supply on the park is bad....show more content... One example, as stated in source 3 ( Water Quality Nearly Halts Everglades Restoration) is of the Act that was made. " As a result, the Everglades Forever Acts was passed in 1995 by then– governor Lawton Chiles." This shows that many people cared about the Florida Everglades enough to get an Act passed. This Act helped very much in the lowering of pollution at the state park. Another reason why the pollution levels went down and the quality levels went up is because of the storm water treatment. the Everglades they would act as filters for the pollution. When placed into the Everglades they would act as filters for the pollution. These are just two of the examples to help explain why the Florida Everglades are still here, and why the water supply on the park is starting to get Get more content on HelpWriting.net
