▹ Journal, as defined
by the Merriam-
Webster and
Cambridge
dictionaries is a
record or collection
of experiences,
ideas, or reflections
that is written each
day or frequently
over a long period.
▹ A learning journal is
therefore defined as a
collection of a student’s
written and illustrated
predictions, reactions,
reflections,
understanding, and
questions of their
learning experiences
that is regularly updated
over a period of time.

▹ Journal writing has several benefits to both the
students and teachers; one of which is it strengthens
communication and writing skills.
▹ According to Internal educations Company Education
First (2019), the Philippines dropped from the 20th to
27th spot in the English Proficiency Index (EPI).
Hence, this journal is required in the institution.

Guidelines
▹ The journal is a critical
requirement for the institutional
competency validation and is a
major requirement for various
courses enrolled by the student.

▹ English is the required language to be
utilized in the journal. Although other
languages or dialects can be used to
write personal entries in the journal.
Required content or submission requires
the use of the English language.
■ This is to assist students in
developing proficiency in using the
English language.
■ There are legal bases of utilizing
English as the official language for
journal entries

requirement for students
enrolled in College and Senior
High School in Ilocos Sur
Community College,
■ it is checked regularly and is
submitted at the end of each
semester for evaluation.
■ Only journals procured
from the institution shall be
used by the students.

■ This means that students
enrolled in SHS and
College are required by
the institution to
purchase an official
journal for every regular

component are required to efficiently utilize
the journal by designing writing activities that
allow students to reflect on their learning to
assist them in developing critical thinking
skills.

learning journal to facilitate learning shall
be determined by the respective program
heads and their faculty members

faculty members handling these
courses, in coordination with the
appropriate offices in the institution.

Students
■ A reflective journal will be required for senior
high school students.
■ The learning journal is a requirement under the
subject Personal Development
■ The journal can also be utilized by students
who will have their work immersion, specific
guidelines will be determined by the
abovementioned department in coordination
with the appropriate offices in the institution
and other relevant government agencies..

checked weekly by the respective
instructor/s.

one to make and determine the
rubrics for checking the journal of
their respective subject/s.
▹ The journal will be a part of the major
requirements of the
abovementioned subjects in the
