In memory
Franklin — At the July 21
common council meeting, the
idea of seceding Franklin once
and for all from the Oak
Creek-Franklin School District
was brought up and discussed,
but eventually tabled to the
Aug. 4 meeting, where it was
tabled indefinitely.
Alderman Dan Mayer ar-
gued that with new plans for
economic development on
27th Street, the school taxes in
that area should go to Franklin
not Oak Creek. After some dis-
cussion and disagreement, the
council tabled the decision to
the next meeting to gather
more information about the
topic.
Franklin Public Schools su-
perintendent Steve Patz said
that this will most likely “not
be a successful venture.”
“The school board hasn’t
discussed anything yet; we
were aware that this was an
agenda item for the council,
but we are treating it like a
nonissue right now,” Patz said.
“There is a lot involved here,
and would have to go through
quite the process for some-
thing like this.”
Time Culver, Superintend-
ent of the Oak Creek-Franklin
School District, said that he
hasn’t heard enough about the
situation yet to give a more de-
tailed comment, but knows
that this process can be diffi-
cult.

Franklin Superintendent that
conversations were beginning
in that community and he
