Media Influence On Teenage Pregnancy
Throughout our lives we go through and experienced many milestones that help to shape our character. For many people all over the world having
a baby proves to not only be one of the most memorable milestones but also one of the most challenging. Most people imagine themselves having a
baby when they are older, married to the love of their life, and financially stable, in order to give their child the best life they can possibly have.
For many having a baby while still in high school seems unimaginable for several different reasons from having to grow up all at once, to having to
put your life on hold in order to provide for your new child. Unfortunately there has been an increase in teen pregnancies all throughout the United
States,so much so that some people might even call it a trend. With such an alarming increase in teen pregnancies with no real cause for the spike it
has left many people pointing their finger at the media for glamorizing teen pregnancies. There are several different factors that contribute to the
increased risk of becoming pregnant for young teens, but glamorization the subject has continued to be one of the top reason. There has always been
and there will always be debates on the subject of whether or not the media has played any kind of role in the influence of teen pregnancy. Several
different studies have indeed shown that teens are at least twice as likely to have sex or engage in sexual acts if they see similar sexual behavior in
the media. Many of the subjects and topics featured in the media that involve sex seem to have teens as their target audience. Unsurprisingly the
media will put out whatever sells weather it be true or not and "the magazines with stories about the teen mothers have sold faster than any magazines
covering the other popular reality TV shows" (Briana Bosworth, The Media's Glamorization Of Teen Pregnancy). Magazines like US Weekly and
People frequently feature articles about the mothers who are featured on MTV's 16 and Pregnant and the follow up, Teen Mom. This appears to be
glamorizing the subject of pregnancy, which happens to be a very unā€“glamorous topic. In the mid 1970's the United States had experienced its' first

What if you were 16, had many opportunities that others don't get? For example free education, an amazing family, and great friends that you can go
out with. All that can be gone because you decided to have unprotected sex. Now you're 16 and scared because you don't know how to tell your
parents. You don't know whats going to happen your life. You don't know if your significant other will support you. If your parents will. You don't
know if you're going to keep it. What now? In 2015 there was about 3,978,497 births registered of teen moms in the United states. Teen pregnancy has
been a big issue for many years. A large number of teenagers are having unprotected sex that lead to unwanted pregnancy. This issue cause young
girls to make a decision on the future of the baby, weather it is to be aborted, given up for adoption or keeping the baby and raising it. This unwanted
pregnancy also takes effect on these teenager's social life, school and work. From about 1 million unwanted pregnancies each year about 35% end in
abortion. About 50 million abortions were performed in the US in 1973 ā€“ 2011. There is a lot of controversy on the topic of abortion. Many think there
should be laws emplaced to restrict under aged mothers or any mother from getting an abortion. They think it's wrong because it is a living growing
human being inside the mother. Even though it is not fully grown and out of the womb, it still depends on the mother to mature into a healthy baby.

Argumentative Essay On Teen Pregnancy
Teen Pregnancy Teen pregnancy is a major concern in our society, but does it benefit or hinder our teen parents? The U.S teen pregnancy rate is
substantially higher than in other western industrialized nations, additionally, a total of over 229,000 babies were born to women aged 15ā€“19 years in
2015 for a rate of 22.3 per 1,000 women in this age group (CDC, 2017). While becoming a parent is a wonderful experience and a blessing, teen
pregnancy should be prevented because the health behaviors associated with teen pregnancy are hazardous to good health, increases the parent's school
dropout rate, and causes substantial social and economic costs through impacts on teen parents and their children.

Initiatives to ensure our teenagers in our communities receive this type of education is crucial in the prevention of teen pregnancies and health
complications. Additionally, as parents and educators, we must acknowledge that positive communication is extremely important in protecting teens
from engaging in all of the risk factors mentioned earlier and research has shown that teens who have open communication with their parents delay
sexual activity. Communication about peer pressure, community culture, and family dynamics will make teens aware of the added risks. They need to
know that there are factors which increase the likelihood of teen pregnancy like living in a single parent household, having friends who are sexually
active, dating at an early age, lack of accurate sexual and reproductive health information.
Social and Economic Cost
Additionally, teen pregnancies increase the parent's school dropout rate causing lower educational attainment and earnings (Diaz & Fiel, 2016). It
causes substantial social and economic costs through immediate and longā€“term impacts on teen parents and their children. The cost and time consumed
with being a teenage parent forces them to sacrifice investments in their own education and training. Consequently, this hinders employment
opportunities making it harder to earn a decent amount of money or complete a high school diploma let alone a college degree. 30% of all teenage

"Over one million teenage girls become pregnant each year. In the next 24 hours, about 3,312 girls will become pregnant. In addition, 43% of all
adolescents become pregnant before the age of 20. These are incredible statistics when you consider that there are only 31 million females. The United
States has the highest adolescent pregnancy rate in the developed world. As statistics show one in nine women between the ages of 15 through 19
become pregnant each year. Also, every 26 seconds a teenage girl becomes pregnant and every 56 seconds a child of a teenage mother is born."

By having all these new problems to deal with without a fully developed maturity the mother can also suffer from emotional and mental
stagnation. Her peers may reject her as society deems teenage pregnancy unacceptable. She may feel humiliated and ashamed after her pregnancy
begins to show, so then she refuses to finish school and as a result she lessens her ability to effectively raise her child. When teenage mother are
pregnant, they are the least likely of all maternal age groups to get early and regular prenatal care. There are many teen mothers who receive late or
no prenatal care at all. After giving birth, the majority of girls drop out of school in order to care of the baby. If there is no one else to share the
endless amount of work, she must assume full responsibility. She may be forced to pursue employment with a minimal of earning potential due to her
lack of education. This scenario tends to breed an unstable and financially insecure parent, and the child may also suffer from neglect by the constantly
working mother.
The teenage social experience is a fundamental stage of development. How a teenager develops socially dictates how effective she will be as an adult.
Through interaction with peers, a teenager learns about herself. This is an important period of time to construct personal identity. If this period is cut
short, she will not be competent to meet the challenges that come with raising a child. Teenagers also tend have poor eating

Argumentative Essay On Teenage Pregnancy
The need to be cautious and think about how my decisions could affect me and others came forcibly from the experience of two of my friends. As
a teenage girl in my society I know about the temptations such as drugs, alcohol and the big one... Sex. Teenage pregnancy has been more and
more common and most of us know someone who has had to face this dilemma. I think if you get pregnant at a young age you have to go through
a lot of emotional trauma before you can make a massive decision like keeping a child that's why when I first saw the picture of a baby bump on my
primary school friends instagram i was shocked. I was so worried and scared for her that i started looking through her comments to see if she had the
support she needed. I discovered that she was pregnant again and was having a baby and her family was happy about this. I looked over comments and
saw that her friends were excited saying things like "you have the cutest bump ever" and "Got a name yet babe?" and "aww so happy for you" it
confused me that a fifteen year old girl was getting this much support and praise for having a baby. I have met a lot of first time mothers who are
adults and are so tired and upset a baby is so much to handle and a huge responsibility yet everyone is so happy for a fifteen year old and her boyfriend
to look after this child? Even if family does help it's her child in the end. What about education? Is she going to go to school and make her parents stay
home and look after the baby? Or is she going to drop out of high school not even with NCEA level 1. And if she does go to school teenagers can be
very nasty will she be slut shamed? Will her boyfriend stay with her the whole time or will he leave because it's 'too hard'. One of my best friends aged
15 texted me 4 weeks ago at 12am saying the dreaded words "I'm 4 weeks pregnant, I'm scared, I'm not telling my parents and I'm going to get an
abortion". I was in shock. I didn't know what to say. I thought maybe she just wants attention or is joking but I know her and she wouldn't joke about
something like being pregnant. i asked her the important questions like "how do you know?" "do you know who the father is?" and "what hospital are

Teenage Pregnancy And Child Birth
Teenage pregnancy and child birth have long been a controversy in the united states. The issue emerged during the 1950's and early 1960's when
teenage childbearing rates reached a historical peak. In the mid 1960's birth control was introduces and the teen pregnancy rate dropped by 25 percent
however it is still a social issue. Such strife has triggered much political debate. Notably, whether the government should fund programs that encourage
abstinence or focus on birth control. Although abstinence would be more publicly accepted, it may not be as beneficial as allowing teens to easily
access and use contraceptives. Teens are raging with hormones as their bodies are experiencing puberty which at times could result in sexual acts. The
aftermath of these sexual acts is pregnancy and birth. Allowing teens to have free access to contraceptives gives one a sense of being safe rather then
being sorry. School boards and school nurses should be able to provide teenagers with free contraceptives to lower the teen pregnancy and birth rate as
well as increase the number or high school dropouts, lower abortion rates, and improve the economy. Teen child bearing consequences most often fall
entirely on the female, in life altering ways. Pregnancy and Birth are significant contributors to the high school dropout rates among teen girls. Only
50% of teen moms receive a diploma by the age 22. In the United States many employers will not hire a person who doesn't hold a high school diploma

According to the CDC, also known as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, "In 2015, a total of 229,715 babies were born to women aged

Sadly for most teenage mothers this isn't attainable. You never picture the fight with being such a young mother. Teen Mom enables the viewers
to see the battles of being pregnant at such a young age. Kaitlyn Lowry, who at age 17 allowed MTV to film the pregnancy and birth of her first
child, is an incredible exemplar of how having a child at a very young age influences your life so enormously. She said," I was given a blessing but
I still haven't gotten my bachelor's degree, because, one, daycare is so expensive and, two, how do you balance studying and having a little one at
home?" (Gonchar and Schulten). Before MTV made the Teen Mom show, teens were not able to easily endure life as a teen mother. The simplest
tasks turn into milestones when you're a young mother. This kind of television show is a creative approach to relay informative information to teens.
Melissa Kearney, University of Maryland economics professor and director of the Brookings Institution's Hamilton Project, has a great point of view
on this subject. She states, "Soap operas and prime time dramas have dabbled in 'edutainment' for years; now it may be time to get down and dirty with
more reality programs; but without trying too hard" (Schneider). Teenage pregnancy Television shows have diminished the quantity of pregnant teens
over the U.S. As mentioned in the article 'Does 16 and Pregnant Prevent or Promote Teen Pregnancy?', "Four years into 16 and Pregnant's run, teen

Teenage Pregnancy Is A Controversial Concept
Teenage pregnancy is a controversial concept nowadays. When a teen girl becomes pregnant and goes to the doctor, the doctor must tell her
parents, even if she does not want to. This causes big issues because the girls feel like they have no privacy in their situation. I agree with the
doctors informing the young girls' guardians because the girl is under their care, she is a minor, and they must know what is going on. Some people
though, have different opinions. Many people believe that telling the parents their teen is pregnant is the correct decision. This is because most
teenagers don't fully understand how much responsibility and time goes into providing care for a baby. She is too young to make her own decisions
and needs contraceptive advice from her parents, whom have experienced this in their lives. There was a study in November of 2004 in which 11
women and 9 men were asked questions concerning their feeling towards confidentiality (Dr Jane CarlisleŠ²Š‚Š Public Health, School of Health and
Related Research, University of Sheffield May 2005). The results of this study were that the young girls (aged 14 through 17) were more concerned
about their privacy, especially the older ones (Dr Jane CarlisleŠ²Š‚Š Public Health, School of Health and Related Research, University of Sheffield May
2005). Since doctors must inform the teens ' parents, many teenagers neglect consulting a doctor if they have any personal or sensitive issues (Dr Jane

Argumentative Effect On Teenage Pregnancy
Two pink lines appearing on a simple plastic stick can change your life forever. A woman's mind is capable of processing more that one emotion at a
time. When she sees those two pink lines she is without a doubt processing all of the emotions known to man. The initial reaction is based largely on
whether or not this was in fact a planned pregnancy.. Moreover, the age of the women, relationship she has with the significant other, her overall
financial status, and wellbeing in general.
To find out you are pregnant as a teenager can affect your life dramatically. Some teenagers have chosen to have a child at such a young age as a way
to fulfill a psychological desire to always have someone there to love them. Commonly with these teens in particular their home life may have been less
that perfect and their parents were frequently noted to be teenage parents themselves. The appear to want to live vicariously through the child allowing
them to maintain the hope that their children will be better taken care of than they had been as child.
On the other hand some teens have gotten pregnant out of error and neglect. These teenagers in particular have been known to be rebelling in some
sense and are trying to shed their childhood bonds. Acting out sexual behaviors offers the opportunity to be engaging in what seems like "adult"
behavior. In an interesting way, having sexual relations irresponsibly allows them to feel like a child because they did not "Plan for

Teenage Pregnancy In Teenage Moms
In 2015, there was a huge problem that broke out all over the united states that over 200,000 girls gave birth between the age of 15ā€“19(CDC). First,
there are many problems with this statistic because there are so many girls having their young teen years skipped and jumping right towards
parenthood. The big issue seen around the united states is that with these unplanned babies some mothers will drop out of high school. Sadly, this
will end of resulting in a huge life change and lead them down a very long road ahead without graduating high school and getting their diploma.
Even though, some of the mothers go back to school their lives will never be the same. Also, many understand that the teen moms are the ones
being directly affected. However, the indirectly affected are the families of their teenager who was pregnant. This is a very stressful time for the
parents and this adds to them getting very angry with their children which may result in them kicking them out or for some help their child raise a
baby. It is a very stressful thing and the families start to become overwhelmed with their teenage daughter whose pregnant and few become depressed
because they feel that their life raising was a fail. Next, is teenage pregnancies are becoming more present and sometimes these incidents can just be
prevented with contraception (HHS). In fact, many girls should have this talk with their parents because it is available and will help the girls avoid

Teenagers engage in sex at a very tender age resulting to an increase in pregnancies in some countries especially developing countries. However, in the
developed countries such as the United States of America, instances of teenage pregnancies have decreased in accordance to the Center for Disease
Control and Prevention. Yet, parents leave in denial that the teenagers do not have sex (Guilamoā€“Ramos et al, 15). The parents, as well as teachers, try
very hard to raise children who remain responsible in the society. They teach them on how to differentiate right and wrong, but the major decision lies
primarily on these teenagers. Some teenagers however make poor decisions and ignore the advice on sex safety hence end up pregnant which
substantially affect their studies. For example in the United States of America, in case a teenager gets pregnant during their studies, they terminate their
studies until they have given birth and hence ready to resume school. It acts as a limitation scaring many of them who instead prefer to use
contraceptives and other birth control methods such as condoms. Teachers and parents should stop pretending that teenagers do not having sex and
instead come up with birth control methods like condoms which are one of the surest way to avoid pregnancies.
Teenagers want to explore and discover information which they don't know due to their age. It makes their world governed by different rules as
compared to that of the adults. They have different priorities

16 & Pregnant In the show 16 & Pregnant, the teen moms are having such a great time being a mother. It shows how cool teen pregnancy is with a
new reality series says the Media Research Center. I believe that the teen moms are glad to be moms because they get to star on a reality television
show. Shows like 16 & Pregnant promotes teen pregnancy because it is showing how amazing and exciting the lives of teen moms are while having a
child at a young age.
McKinsey Global Institute says that the show 16 & Pregnant led to more searches and tweets regarding birth control and abortions. This could be a
good thing and a bad thing. The teens may be considering birth control and abortion which can prevent so many teens having babies at a young age, but
it can also promote teens into getting pregnant because of other teens doing it. I believe that this is bad because teen pregnancy should not be
encouraged it should be almost illegal. The media needs to talk more about protected sex rather than unprotected sex. The media has the entire situation
all backwards just money and fame.
There is no reason for any teen to feel as if teenage pregnancy is okay because it is most definitely not okay. There should be a tv show that says the
horrible things that could happen when girls are pregnant while young. In my opinion, if the teenager is still living with their parents, and not even a
legal adult in the United States then their is no way the teen should be having a child that they are

The teen pregnancy rate had decreased by the maximum of about 55 percent. Most teen birth rates had also gone down about 64 percent, but yet teen

pregnant first hand was a bittersweet but conversely a Kodak moment as well. During the first couple of days I didn't know whether to ball up and cry
or to be happy and exhilarated, I was 17 so I didn't know how to be happy about me being with a fetus inside of me. "I have my whole life ahead of me,
this can't be real, why me?" I constantly asked myself while looking at the positive pregnancy test. After finding out this shocking news I walked in
the same room that my cousin Kiana was patiently waiting in, and quietly said it's positive. Kiana gave me the ideal expression I kind of hoped for
and needed during the timeā€“being but shortly after, I got the news that she was also pregnant. When I first noticed my first sign of pregnancy when I
started spotting, and increase of hunger, I didn't think nothing of it but I slightly had a clue. A week goes by still going unnoticed until the morning
sickness stage hit. Waking up with morning sickness was one of the stages I had an aversion to the most. I partially disliked this stage because not
only was it morning sickness, but because it was morning and afternoon sickness. Another reason is because it made me feel nauseous. After the
morning sickness stage, it encouraged me to get a pregnancy test.
Telling my family about the pregnancy was going to be one of the most petrifying things I'd ever had to do. I honestly know how to know to tell

We live in an age where teenage pregnancy appears to be glorified by the media. Shows like, Teen Mom, 16 and Pregnant, and The Secret Life of an
American Teenager sugarcoat the bitter reality that is life for young girls who have unexpectedly found themselves with child. In the real world, teen
moms don't get million dollar deals or public displays of empathy, they receive ostracization, criticism, and a child who more often than not is born into
unfavorable circumstances. Getting pregnant as a teenager is beyond easy. Raging hormones, the complete and utter lack of proper sexual education, in
conjunction with the rising difficulties of obtaining birth control provides an environment which allows teenage pregnancy to thrive. Although getting
pregnant as a teenager is easy, being a pregnant teenager is not. If more teenagers genuinely understood the difficulties accompanied with having
unprotected sex and ending up as a pregnant teenager, they might be more inclined to seek some form of birth control. Getting pregnant as a teenager
has a tendency to completely alters one's life focus. Teenage years are intended to be the years where selfish actions based in self interest areā€“ while
not encouraged ā€“ excused because the teenage years are supposed to be a time of self discovery. Pregnancy completely changes this. When a person

Argumentative Essay On Teen Pregnancy
Teen Pregnancy has been a controversial topic long since the 1960's. Some may believe it's a sin against God because you're pregnant out of wedlock,
while others may believe you put yourself in the situation so now you can deal with the consequences. The decrease in teen pregnancies, causes the
belief, that the access to contraceptives is lowering teen pregnancy rates. People and places are trying to lower the rate of teen pregnancy, which
include the history, causes, effects, prevention and the current situation. Teen pregnancy has hit a historical low states Roberts "Less than forty
percent of what is was at its modern peak in 1991"There was an average of "61.8 births per 1,000 girls 15 to 19 years old"[and] "In 2014, the rate
was 24.2 per 1,000 girls." Having such a high birthrate in 1991, than having it drop significantly shows that whatever, schools and parents have been
teaching teens clearly worked.
Although, some form of government has been around well since the beginning of time, today's government is trying to play an active role in this
epidemic without being overbearing. The Republicans however, are proposing a plan in which, will makes the situation worse. As Silverman has
pointed out "President Donald Trump slashed $213 million in funding for teenage pregnancy prevention programs" (Silverman 1). This was a terrible
idea because Planned Parenthood promotes safe sex, give free pregnancy tests, ultrasounds, and much more. On the other hand, almost all of Planned
Parenthood's funding comes from the government, so they have a say in what is done with it. As Fonda clearly shows "In Texas, teen pregnancies
cost the state $1.1 billion each year," (Fonda 1). This shows you that pregnancy, in general, is expensive. It's not only expensive for the state but also
for you, as a parent. In the words of the Researchers from the Kaiser Health News "An uncomplicated vaginal birth costs the average woman $3,296
and the highest was at an astonishing $37,227. While an uncomplicated Caesarean birth (cā€“section) costs the average woman $8,312 and the highest
was $70,908."(Galewitz 1) Everything in the world is now expensive. That brings us into our next discussion, about the healthcare industry. Kristof

Essay On Teenage Pregnancy
Abstract
Nearly all teen pregnancies are unplanned, however teen pregnancy is becoming an epidemic. A lot of teens do not realize that having sex can bring
on a lot of responsibilities. In most case scenarios, on average, adolescences say they did not want to get pregnant or cause a pregnancy. When you
read about different statics about teen pregnancy, that alone is reason enough to create preventing programs about teen pregnancy. Knowing that teen
pregnancy is closely linked to a host of other critical social issue, e.g. poverty, income, overall child wellā€“being, health issue, education, just to name a
few. There are also substantial public costs associated with adolescent childbearing. Consequently, teen pregnancy should be viewed not only as a
reproductive health issue, but as one that works to improve these measures.
Keywords: adolescences, child, income, poverty, teen, sex
Within this paper, it will discuss the adolescent population involving, teen pregnancy. Teen pregnancy, is defined as being a young female under the
age of 20 years of age. Teen pregnancy is a health issues. A teenager who's having a baby is more likely to have social issues, e.g. poverty, poor
education, risky behaviors that can lead to poor health issues, as well as child welfare.
Adolescent pregnancy rate has declined over recent years. However, the United States has the highest rate of pregnancy among adolescents compared

Teenage Burden The United States has the highest percentage of teenage pregnancies compared to any other developed country; statistics state that 1
million teenagers become pregnant each year. Teenage pregnancy has retransformed over the past decades, since pregnancy before marriage was
considered a taboo but over the past decades it has become a norm. Although teenage pregnancies are widely accepted throughout in the United States
there has been an increase in consequences. An abortion means to terminate an embryo or fetus before it is adequately developed to survive. A
controversy has a rise as to whether they should be among teenagers capable to make the choice to end and unwanted pregnancy or whether parental
consent should be required to end an abortion without their parental consent. Teenage abortion should strictly rely on parental consent because
teenagers becoming parents is a life changing decision, laws should become stricter across the board, and change in the American culture would
decrease abortions. Pregnancy before marriage in the 18th century was considered a disgrace and burden for many women. The ideology during
this era was based on religious beliefs and having sex before marriage was a virtue; birth control was not widely accepted or considered a safe way to
prevent pregnancy. Women would perform unsafe abortions that would put their health at risk since it was performed with home remedies. "Abortion
in the early 1800s was considered a

Media Influence On Teenage Pregnancy

  • 1. Media Influence On Teenage Pregnancy Throughout our lives we go through and experienced many milestones that help to shape our character. For many people all over the world having a baby proves to not only be one of the most memorable milestones but also one of the most challenging. Most people imagine themselves having a baby when they are older, married to the love of their life, and financially stable, in order to give their child the best life they can possibly have. For many having a baby while still in high school seems unimaginable for several different reasons from having to grow up all at once, to having to put your life on hold in order to provide for your new child. Unfortunately there has been an increase in teen pregnancies all throughout the United States,so much so that some people might even call it a trend. With such an alarming increase in teen pregnancies with no real cause for the spike it has left many people pointing their finger at the media for glamorizing teen pregnancies. There are several different factors that contribute to the increased risk of becoming pregnant for young teens, but glamorization the subject has continued to be one of the top reason. There has always been and there will always be debates on the subject of whether or not the media has played any kind of role in the influence of teen pregnancy. Several different studies have indeed shown that teens are at least twice as likely to have sex or engage in sexual acts if they see similar sexual behavior in the media. Many of the subjects and topics featured in the media that involve sex seem to have teens as their target audience. Unsurprisingly the media will put out whatever sells weather it be true or not and "the magazines with stories about the teen mothers have sold faster than any magazines covering the other popular reality TV shows" (Briana Bosworth, The Media's Glamorization Of Teen Pregnancy). Magazines like US Weekly and People frequently feature articles about the mothers who are featured on MTV's 16 and Pregnant and the follow up, Teen Mom. This appears to be glamorizing the subject of pregnancy, which happens to be a very unā€“glamorous topic. In the mid 1970's the United States had experienced its' first major rise in the number of reported Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. Argumentative Essay On Teen Pregnancy What if you were 16, had many opportunities that others don't get? For example free education, an amazing family, and great friends that you can go out with. All that can be gone because you decided to have unprotected sex. Now you're 16 and scared because you don't know how to tell your parents. You don't know whats going to happen your life. You don't know if your significant other will support you. If your parents will. You don't know if you're going to keep it. What now? In 2015 there was about 3,978,497 births registered of teen moms in the United states. Teen pregnancy has been a big issue for many years. A large number of teenagers are having unprotected sex that lead to unwanted pregnancy. This issue cause young girls to make a decision on the future of the baby, weather it is to be aborted, given up for adoption or keeping the baby and raising it. This unwanted pregnancy also takes effect on these teenager's social life, school and work. From about 1 million unwanted pregnancies each year about 35% end in abortion. About 50 million abortions were performed in the US in 1973 ā€“ 2011. There is a lot of controversy on the topic of abortion. Many think there should be laws emplaced to restrict under aged mothers or any mother from getting an abortion. They think it's wrong because it is a living growing human being inside the mother. Even though it is not fully grown and out of the womb, it still depends on the mother to mature into a healthy baby. Many, on the Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. Argumentative Essay On Teen Pregnancy Teen Pregnancy Teen pregnancy is a major concern in our society, but does it benefit or hinder our teen parents? The U.S teen pregnancy rate is substantially higher than in other western industrialized nations, additionally, a total of over 229,000 babies were born to women aged 15ā€“19 years in 2015 for a rate of 22.3 per 1,000 women in this age group (CDC, 2017). While becoming a parent is a wonderful experience and a blessing, teen pregnancy should be prevented because the health behaviors associated with teen pregnancy are hazardous to good health, increases the parent's school dropout rate, and causes substantial social and economic costs through impacts on teen parents and their children. Health Behaviors and Impacts First, teen...show more content... Initiatives to ensure our teenagers in our communities receive this type of education is crucial in the prevention of teen pregnancies and health complications. Additionally, as parents and educators, we must acknowledge that positive communication is extremely important in protecting teens from engaging in all of the risk factors mentioned earlier and research has shown that teens who have open communication with their parents delay sexual activity. Communication about peer pressure, community culture, and family dynamics will make teens aware of the added risks. They need to know that there are factors which increase the likelihood of teen pregnancy like living in a single parent household, having friends who are sexually active, dating at an early age, lack of accurate sexual and reproductive health information. Social and Economic Cost Additionally, teen pregnancies increase the parent's school dropout rate causing lower educational attainment and earnings (Diaz & Fiel, 2016). It causes substantial social and economic costs through immediate and longā€“term impacts on teen parents and their children. The cost and time consumed with being a teenage parent forces them to sacrifice investments in their own education and training. Consequently, this hinders employment opportunities making it harder to earn a decent amount of money or complete a high school diploma let alone a college degree. 30% of all teenage girls who drop out of school mention pregnancy Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 4. Teenage Pregnancy Essay Teenage Pregnancy "Over one million teenage girls become pregnant each year. In the next 24 hours, about 3,312 girls will become pregnant. In addition, 43% of all adolescents become pregnant before the age of 20. These are incredible statistics when you consider that there are only 31 million females. The United States has the highest adolescent pregnancy rate in the developed world. As statistics show one in nine women between the ages of 15 through 19 become pregnant each year. Also, every 26 seconds a teenage girl becomes pregnant and every 56 seconds a child of a teenage mother is born." A child needs a nurturing and stable environment in order to prosper and grow. A child born to a single teenage mother is much less likely to ...show more content... By having all these new problems to deal with without a fully developed maturity the mother can also suffer from emotional and mental stagnation. Her peers may reject her as society deems teenage pregnancy unacceptable. She may feel humiliated and ashamed after her pregnancy begins to show, so then she refuses to finish school and as a result she lessens her ability to effectively raise her child. When teenage mother are pregnant, they are the least likely of all maternal age groups to get early and regular prenatal care. There are many teen mothers who receive late or no prenatal care at all. After giving birth, the majority of girls drop out of school in order to care of the baby. If there is no one else to share the endless amount of work, she must assume full responsibility. She may be forced to pursue employment with a minimal of earning potential due to her lack of education. This scenario tends to breed an unstable and financially insecure parent, and the child may also suffer from neglect by the constantly working mother. The teenage social experience is a fundamental stage of development. How a teenager develops socially dictates how effective she will be as an adult. Through interaction with peers, a teenager learns about herself. This is an important period of time to construct personal identity. If this period is cut short, she will not be competent to meet the challenges that come with raising a child. Teenagers also tend have poor eating Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 5. Argumentative Essay On Teenage Pregnancy The need to be cautious and think about how my decisions could affect me and others came forcibly from the experience of two of my friends. As a teenage girl in my society I know about the temptations such as drugs, alcohol and the big one... Sex. Teenage pregnancy has been more and more common and most of us know someone who has had to face this dilemma. I think if you get pregnant at a young age you have to go through a lot of emotional trauma before you can make a massive decision like keeping a child that's why when I first saw the picture of a baby bump on my primary school friends instagram i was shocked. I was so worried and scared for her that i started looking through her comments to see if she had the support she needed. I discovered that she was pregnant again and was having a baby and her family was happy about this. I looked over comments and saw that her friends were excited saying things like "you have the cutest bump ever" and "Got a name yet babe?" and "aww so happy for you" it confused me that a fifteen year old girl was getting this much support and praise for having a baby. I have met a lot of first time mothers who are adults and are so tired and upset a baby is so much to handle and a huge responsibility yet everyone is so happy for a fifteen year old and her boyfriend to look after this child? Even if family does help it's her child in the end. What about education? Is she going to go to school and make her parents stay home and look after the baby? Or is she going to drop out of high school not even with NCEA level 1. And if she does go to school teenagers can be very nasty will she be slut shamed? Will her boyfriend stay with her the whole time or will he leave because it's 'too hard'. One of my best friends aged 15 texted me 4 weeks ago at 12am saying the dreaded words "I'm 4 weeks pregnant, I'm scared, I'm not telling my parents and I'm going to get an abortion". I was in shock. I didn't know what to say. I thought maybe she just wants attention or is joking but I know her and she wouldn't joke about something like being pregnant. i asked her the important questions like "how do you know?" "do you know who the father is?" and "what hospital are you going to and how are Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 6. Teenage Pregnancy And Child Birth Teenage pregnancy and child birth have long been a controversy in the united states. The issue emerged during the 1950's and early 1960's when teenage childbearing rates reached a historical peak. In the mid 1960's birth control was introduces and the teen pregnancy rate dropped by 25 percent however it is still a social issue. Such strife has triggered much political debate. Notably, whether the government should fund programs that encourage abstinence or focus on birth control. Although abstinence would be more publicly accepted, it may not be as beneficial as allowing teens to easily access and use contraceptives. Teens are raging with hormones as their bodies are experiencing puberty which at times could result in sexual acts. The aftermath of these sexual acts is pregnancy and birth. Allowing teens to have free access to contraceptives gives one a sense of being safe rather then being sorry. School boards and school nurses should be able to provide teenagers with free contraceptives to lower the teen pregnancy and birth rate as well as increase the number or high school dropouts, lower abortion rates, and improve the economy. Teen child bearing consequences most often fall entirely on the female, in life altering ways. Pregnancy and Birth are significant contributors to the high school dropout rates among teen girls. Only 50% of teen moms receive a diploma by the age 22. In the United States many employers will not hire a person who doesn't hold a high school diploma Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 7. Teenage Pregnancy Essay According to the CDC, also known as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, "In 2015, a total of 229,715 babies were born to women aged 15ā€“19 years, for a birth rate of 22.3 per 1,000 women in this age group. This is another record low for U.S. teens and a drop of 8% from 2014. Birth rates fell 9% for women aged 15ā€“17 years and 7% for women aged 18ā€“19 years." Teenage pregnancy is characterized as an adolescent girl, for the most part between the ages of 13 and 19, conceiving a child. The term in everyday context for the most part alludes to girls who have not achieved the legal age of adulthood, which fluctuates across the world, who end up pregnant. Teenage pregnancy is something that affects more than one million teenagers in...show more content... Sadly for most teenage mothers this isn't attainable. You never picture the fight with being such a young mother. Teen Mom enables the viewers to see the battles of being pregnant at such a young age. Kaitlyn Lowry, who at age 17 allowed MTV to film the pregnancy and birth of her first child, is an incredible exemplar of how having a child at a very young age influences your life so enormously. She said," I was given a blessing but I still haven't gotten my bachelor's degree, because, one, daycare is so expensive and, two, how do you balance studying and having a little one at home?" (Gonchar and Schulten). Before MTV made the Teen Mom show, teens were not able to easily endure life as a teen mother. The simplest tasks turn into milestones when you're a young mother. This kind of television show is a creative approach to relay informative information to teens. Melissa Kearney, University of Maryland economics professor and director of the Brookings Institution's Hamilton Project, has a great point of view on this subject. She states, "Soap operas and prime time dramas have dabbled in 'edutainment' for years; now it may be time to get down and dirty with more reality programs; but without trying too hard" (Schneider). Teenage pregnancy Television shows have diminished the quantity of pregnant teens over the U.S. As mentioned in the article 'Does 16 and Pregnant Prevent or Promote Teen Pregnancy?', "Four years into 16 and Pregnant's run, teen pregnancy rates are at a Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 8. Teenage Pregnancy Is A Controversial Concept Teenage pregnancy is a controversial concept nowadays. When a teen girl becomes pregnant and goes to the doctor, the doctor must tell her parents, even if she does not want to. This causes big issues because the girls feel like they have no privacy in their situation. I agree with the doctors informing the young girls' guardians because the girl is under their care, she is a minor, and they must know what is going on. Some people though, have different opinions. Many people believe that telling the parents their teen is pregnant is the correct decision. This is because most teenagers don't fully understand how much responsibility and time goes into providing care for a baby. She is too young to make her own decisions and needs contraceptive advice from her parents, whom have experienced this in their lives. There was a study in November of 2004 in which 11 women and 9 men were asked questions concerning their feeling towards confidentiality (Dr Jane CarlisleŠ²Š‚Š Public Health, School of Health and Related Research, University of Sheffield May 2005). The results of this study were that the young girls (aged 14 through 17) were more concerned about their privacy, especially the older ones (Dr Jane CarlisleŠ²Š‚Š Public Health, School of Health and Related Research, University of Sheffield May 2005). Since doctors must inform the teens ' parents, many teenagers neglect consulting a doctor if they have any personal or sensitive issues (Dr Jane CarlisleŠ²Š‚Š Public Health, School of Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 9. Argumentative Effect On Teenage Pregnancy Two pink lines appearing on a simple plastic stick can change your life forever. A woman's mind is capable of processing more that one emotion at a time. When she sees those two pink lines she is without a doubt processing all of the emotions known to man. The initial reaction is based largely on whether or not this was in fact a planned pregnancy.. Moreover, the age of the women, relationship she has with the significant other, her overall financial status, and wellbeing in general. To find out you are pregnant as a teenager can affect your life dramatically. Some teenagers have chosen to have a child at such a young age as a way to fulfill a psychological desire to always have someone there to love them. Commonly with these teens in particular their home life may have been less that perfect and their parents were frequently noted to be teenage parents themselves. The appear to want to live vicariously through the child allowing them to maintain the hope that their children will be better taken care of than they had been as child. • 10. Teenage Pregnancy In Teenage Moms In 2015, there was a huge problem that broke out all over the united states that over 200,000 girls gave birth between the age of 15ā€“19(CDC). First, there are many problems with this statistic because there are so many girls having their young teen years skipped and jumping right towards parenthood. The big issue seen around the united states is that with these unplanned babies some mothers will drop out of high school. Sadly, this will end of resulting in a huge life change and lead them down a very long road ahead without graduating high school and getting their diploma. Even though, some of the mothers go back to school their lives will never be the same. Also, many understand that the teen moms are the ones being directly affected. However, the indirectly affected are the families of their teenager who was pregnant. This is a very stressful time for the parents and this adds to them getting very angry with their children which may result in them kicking them out or for some help their child raise a baby. It is a very stressful thing and the families start to become overwhelmed with their teenage daughter whose pregnant and few become depressed because they feel that their life raising was a fail. • 11. Argumentative Essay On Teenage Pregnancy Teenagers engage in sex at a very tender age resulting to an increase in pregnancies in some countries especially developing countries. However, in the developed countries such as the United States of America, instances of teenage pregnancies have decreased in accordance to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention. Yet, parents leave in denial that the teenagers do not have sex (Guilamoā€“Ramos et al, 15). The parents, as well as teachers, try very hard to raise children who remain responsible in the society. They teach them on how to differentiate right and wrong, but the major decision lies primarily on these teenagers. Some teenagers however make poor decisions and ignore the advice on sex safety hence end up pregnant which substantially affect their studies. For example in the United States of America, in case a teenager gets pregnant during their studies, they terminate their studies until they have given birth and hence ready to resume school. It acts as a limitation scaring many of them who instead prefer to use contraceptives and other birth control methods such as condoms. Teachers and parents should stop pretending that teenagers do not having sex and instead come up with birth control methods like condoms which are one of the surest way to avoid pregnancies. Teenagers want to explore and discover information which they don't know due to their age. It makes their world governed by different rules as compared to that of the adults. They have different priorities Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 12. Argumentative Paper On Teenage Pregnancy 16 & Pregnant In the show 16 & Pregnant, the teen moms are having such a great time being a mother. It shows how cool teen pregnancy is with a new reality series says the Media Research Center. I believe that the teen moms are glad to be moms because they get to star on a reality television show. Shows like 16 & Pregnant promotes teen pregnancy because it is showing how amazing and exciting the lives of teen moms are while having a child at a young age. McKinsey Global Institute says that the show 16 & Pregnant led to more searches and tweets regarding birth control and abortions. This could be a good thing and a bad thing. The teens may be considering birth control and abortion which can prevent so many teens having babies at a young age, but it can also promote teens into getting pregnant because of other teens doing it. I believe that this is bad because teen pregnancy should not be encouraged it should be almost illegal. The media needs to talk more about protected sex rather than unprotected sex. The media has the entire situation all backwards just money and fame. There is no reason for any teen to feel as if teenage pregnancy is okay because it is most definitely not okay. There should be a tv show that says the horrible things that could happen when girls are pregnant while young. In my opinion, if the teenager is still living with their parents, and not even a legal adult in the United States then their is no way the teen should be having a child that they are Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 13. Argumentative Essay On Teenage Pregnancy The teen pregnancy rate had decreased by the maximum of about 55 percent. Most teen birth rates had also gone down about 64 percent, but yet teen pregnancies and birth rate for teenagers ages 15ā€“19 in the U.S still remains one of the highest comparable countries. Due to parenthood, most of teen moms drop out of school. More than 50% of teen mothers never graduate to get their diploma. Sexually active teens that don't use any type of protection has a 90 percent chance of becoming pregnant within a year, 84 percent of teen pregnancies are unplanned. Finding out that I was pregnant first hand was a bittersweet but conversely a Kodak moment as well. During the first couple of days I didn't know whether to ball up and cry or to be happy and exhilarated, I was 17 so I didn't know how to be happy about me being with a fetus inside of me. "I have my whole life ahead of me, this can't be real, why me?" I constantly asked myself while looking at the positive pregnancy test. After finding out this shocking news I walked in the same room that my cousin Kiana was patiently waiting in, and quietly said it's positive. Kiana gave me the ideal expression I kind of hoped for and needed during the timeā€“being but shortly after, I got the news that she was also pregnant. When I first noticed my first sign of pregnancy when I started spotting, and increase of hunger, I didn't think nothing of it but I slightly had a clue. A week goes by still going unnoticed until the morning sickness stage hit. Waking up with morning sickness was one of the stages I had an aversion to the most. I partially disliked this stage because not only was it morning sickness, but because it was morning and afternoon sickness. Another reason is because it made me feel nauseous. After the morning sickness stage, it encouraged me to get a pregnancy test. Telling my family about the pregnancy was going to be one of the most petrifying things I'd ever had to do. I honestly know how to know to tell them or who I was going to tell first, I was nervous about what the outcome would be. Telling my child's father was first though. Moreover, me and my family finding out the news, he had been in a juvenile detention center. When we would be on the phone I would Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 14. Argumentative Essay On Teenage Pregnancy We live in an age where teenage pregnancy appears to be glorified by the media. Shows like, Teen Mom, 16 and Pregnant, and The Secret Life of an American Teenager sugarcoat the bitter reality that is life for young girls who have unexpectedly found themselves with child. In the real world, teen moms don't get million dollar deals or public displays of empathy, they receive ostracization, criticism, and a child who more often than not is born into unfavorable circumstances. Getting pregnant as a teenager is beyond easy. Raging hormones, the complete and utter lack of proper sexual education, in conjunction with the rising difficulties of obtaining birth control provides an environment which allows teenage pregnancy to thrive. Although getting pregnant as a teenager is easy, being a pregnant teenager is not. If more teenagers genuinely understood the difficulties accompanied with having unprotected sex and ending up as a pregnant teenager, they might be more inclined to seek some form of birth control. Getting pregnant as a teenager has a tendency to completely alters one's life focus. Teenage years are intended to be the years where selfish actions based in self interest areā€“ while not encouraged ā€“ excused because the teenage years are supposed to be a time of self discovery. Pregnancy completely changes this. When a person intends to bring life into the world, they must understand that their previous priorities will be pushed to the sidelines if not completely abandoned Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 15. Argumentative Essay On Teen Pregnancy Teen Pregnancy has been a controversial topic long since the 1960's. Some may believe it's a sin against God because you're pregnant out of wedlock, while others may believe you put yourself in the situation so now you can deal with the consequences. The decrease in teen pregnancies, causes the belief, that the access to contraceptives is lowering teen pregnancy rates. People and places are trying to lower the rate of teen pregnancy, which include the history, causes, effects, prevention and the current situation. Teen pregnancy has hit a historical low states Roberts "Less than forty percent of what is was at its modern peak in 1991"There was an average of "61.8 births per 1,000 girls 15 to 19 years old"[and] "In 2014, the rate was 24.2 per 1,000 girls." Having such a high birthrate in 1991, than having it drop significantly shows that whatever, schools and parents have been teaching teens clearly worked. Although, some form of government has been around well since the beginning of time, today's government is trying to play an active role in this epidemic without being overbearing. The Republicans however, are proposing a plan in which, will makes the situation worse. As Silverman has pointed out "President Donald Trump slashed $213 million in funding for teenage pregnancy prevention programs" (Silverman 1). This was a terrible idea because Planned Parenthood promotes safe sex, give free pregnancy tests, ultrasounds, and much more. On the other hand, almost all of Planned Parenthood's funding comes from the government, so they have a say in what is done with it. As Fonda clearly shows "In Texas, teen pregnancies cost the state $1.1 billion each year," (Fonda 1). This shows you that pregnancy, in general, is expensive. It's not only expensive for the state but also for you, as a parent. In the words of the Researchers from the Kaiser Health News "An uncomplicated vaginal birth costs the average woman $3,296 and the highest was at an astonishing $37,227. While an uncomplicated Caesarean birth (cā€“section) costs the average woman $8,312 and the highest was $70,908."(Galewitz 1) Everything in the world is now expensive. That brings us into our next discussion, about the healthcare industry. Kristof points Get more content on HelpWriting.net

  • 18. Argumentative Essay On Teenage Pregnancy Teenage Burden The United States has the highest percentage of teenage pregnancies compared to any other developed country; statistics state that 1 million teenagers become pregnant each year. Teenage pregnancy has retransformed over the past decades, since pregnancy before marriage was considered a taboo but over the past decades it has become a norm. Although teenage pregnancies are widely accepted throughout in the United States there has been an increase in consequences. An abortion means to terminate an embryo or fetus before it is adequately developed to survive. A controversy has a rise as to whether they should be among teenagers capable to make the choice to end and unwanted pregnancy or whether parental consent should be required to end an abortion without their parental consent. Teenage abortion should strictly rely on parental consent because teenagers becoming parents is a life changing decision, laws should become stricter across the board, and change in the American culture would decrease abortions. Pregnancy before marriage in the 18th century was considered a disgrace and burden for many women. The ideology during this era was based on religious beliefs and having sex before marriage was a virtue; birth control was not widely accepted or considered a safe way to prevent pregnancy. Women would perform unsafe abortions that would put their health at risk since it was performed with home remedies. "Abortion in the early 1800s was considered a Get more content on HelpWriting.net
