The Varanasi (IIT BHU) Indian Institute of Technology (BHU) is a public
engineering institution situated in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh. Established as the
Banaras Engineering College in 1919, it became the Institute of Technology,
Banaras Hindu University in 1968. The college ranks 11th in the Engineering
category of NIRF 2020 and 26th in the overall classification. There are 14
divisions and three inter-disciplinary schools at IIT BHU Varanasi. IIT BHU
admission is solely dependent on the JEE Advanced, GATE, or GPAT ranks
