“above all else, the world is marked by one dominant
trend…
… the shift to a knowledge society”
He forsees the NEED to become KNOWLEDGE WORKERS that:

Editor's Notes
I think that we can all agree on the fact that we live in a tremendously faced paced world – there is no doubt that the “old” order of business is shifting… 20 years ago your would be applauded if you had had a career run in the same company for 25 years… working your way up the ladder – but today in the 21st Century – everything is become more and more specialized… we are drawing from so many different sources t hat knowledge is shifting the way we see business – in fact knowledge and how we use it is becoming a WAY of Life … how you USE knowledge is the difference between one or the other, doing business or becoming an entrepreneur in your business.
Because of the power of knowledge – I don’t think that I don’t think that the question should really be about how I see a single industry’s challenge – such as finance which is an a sector I am very interested in – but rather the fact that the CHALLENGE in itself is how knowledge will drive all business, no matter what the sector, and how do you best manage that knowledge and how IE will get me to become that worldclass “KNOWLEDGE BROKER”
Few would argue that the way we work has changed dramatically – just look at the financial sector as an example:
Routine Work Knowledge Work
Transaction Execution Solving Problems for your customers
Automation To personalization & customer “Right Sizing”
Efficiencies in a single company for greater returns To collaboration and partnering
High standardization and compliance To tailor made processes
The list goes on…
50 years ago Peter Drucker made the above statement and that knowledge worker is HERE TODAY! – we know that… the world has become a very complex and extremely fast paced environment where even the BEST of KNOWLEDGE workers need to become good at harnessing this knowledge to the benefit of this fast paced changing global business reality – Knowledge – even the best – for the sake of knowledge still won’t give us that Opportunity VISION that will shift us from simply being a “business” to:
CREATING Value/Growth/Innovate/Fusing Technology that will support this/….
To do this you need to follow the Drucker Roadmap:
1. Figure out what information is needed – NOT BE PRODUCERS OF DATA
2. Figure out what business process no longer contributes – HAVE THE COURAGE TO SAY ENOUGH IS ENOUGH IN A BUSINESS – SOMETIMES YOU NEED TO SHUT DOWN A PRODUCT/SERVICE…
If you don’t – obsolescence, performance loss, profitability and… loss of the knowledge workers will close you down
3. Give-up Top Down leadership – IT IS NOT ABOUT COMMAND AND CONTROL ANYMORE!
Give ownership to the specialists and provide LEADERSHIP
BUILD a Learning Organization - Challenge knowledge to grow or else you will die as a business…
5. Be Socially Responsible
Income and dignity needs to trickle down – a weak society cannot uphold business growth (Drucker)
Business in our complex world is based on: Regulation/R&D/Infrastucture/Education/Migration of capabilities – I need to understand that
Entrepreneurship is based on all the other stuff… and how to tie in the strength of those knowledge workers that drive it…
In our Knowledge society – the knowledge worker is core to business – and keeps our social status quo moving along – but what drives the change/what actually provides that injection of of add value/game changing value creation is ENTREPENEURSHIP.
This can be applied to every industry and every business model – I want to contribute to CREATING WEALTH – yes, that can be capital – but it’s not ONLY about the money – this goes beyond the financial value – I want to create wealth through managing knowledge and providing a social impact because of it – bringing a successful difference to whatever business I might be working in.
I believe I have two very strong traits – Creativity and natural leadership… but to reach success I still need to strengthen that component called Knowledge – possibly by becoming an expert, but ideally by being able to recognize those that are experts and provide them with the leadership that will drive a collaborative approach to success…
Orélie:
PERSONALITY: Resilience/Risk Taking/Hard work/Creativity/Responsible
SKILLS : Ability to network/Think Strategically/Leadership/good communicator/Listen to what is being said
INTELLIGENCE: empathy/out of the box thinking/Networking
ATTITUDE: Motivation/Drive and ambition/ desire to make an impact/ Desire to create wealth/social responsibility
But this needs to be paired to a Knowledge base and skill set that will enables me to become a LEADER amongst Knowledge Workers… an entrepreneur knows how to bring together finite resources and through stimulating creativity with focus … bringing about add value and ultimately business success.
