This document provides an introduction to the concept of One Health. It explains that One Health looks at the interdependence of human, animal, and environmental health using a systems approach. The document outlines an agenda for a workshop on One Health that will include exercises zooming into One Health perspectives, identifying important players and their roles, guidelines for collaboration, lessons on communication and collaboration, and exploring environmental threats. The overall aim is to help participants recognize how they can prevent and respond to public health events using a One Health approach.
4. Zoom into One Health
What were your initial thoughts when you saw
your picture(s)?
How did your view, focus or story change as you
put your picture(s) together with the picture(s) of
the others in the class to tell the large story?
What does the whole story tell you about the
interdependence of human, animal and
environmental health?
If we said that a One Health approach is like
zooming out, in what circumstances could you
benefit from using a One Health approach in your
work?
5. A One Health approach

Why those skills are important to preparing
and responding to a PHE
20. Guidelines
Help team members clarify expectations
regarding how they will work together to
achieve their shared goals.
Create a safe, ordered and productive

Provide a way to hold team members
accountable for any behavior that is
negatively impacting the success of the
team.

Create 5 to 7 guidelines for your
team.
26. Map the:
Major environments within your
country
Industries (e.g., mining, agriculture,
energy, etc.)
Trade and commerce routes
27. You are a member of a One
Health team
Your head of state wants to know, what are
the most pressing environmental threats to
One Health. Looking at your map:
What would be your top 3 priorities?
What is the impact of each threat on
human and animal health?
Prepare a 5 minute presentation
28. What does all this means to you
What is your role in a PHE and what
strengths do you bring to preparing
and/or responding to a PHE?
What are elements of One Health that you
are already using?
What are elements of a One Health
approach that you want to incorporate in
your work? How does this change the way
your work?
