Burnley® Baffles
Dust Suppression Device
for intake hoppers
2019
2. Burnley® Baffles system is a device that is applied to bulk product receiving hoppers to
reduce the liberation of fugitive dust during bulk product transfer operations.
Originally developed in the late 1970’s for the KBB Malting facility in Perth
Western Australia
Consists of blades, which rotate to allow the product through to the hopper,
and keep the dust below the blades
Burnley® Baffles
3. When Burnley® Baffles are applied to a hopper along with a
suitably sized dust collector 100% of the dust can be captured.
• Diffuse and redirect the displaced air within the hopper itself
Burnley® Baffles dust suppression device:
• Reduce the open face area of a hopper
When applied to a hopper alone Burnley® Baffles will normally
eliminate 75 to 80% of the dust being liberated.
Burnley® Baffles
Burnley® Baffles Principles
The operating principle behind Mideco Burnley® Baffles is management of air
movement.
There are two air movement issues that need to be managed.
1. Management of air being drawn by the product
2. Management of air being displaced from the hopper by the product
6. Baffles to suit any size hopper
Burnley® Baffles
• Easy to install
• Simple yet clever design
• Maintenance free
• Gravity operation
• Starting at 1.6mm galvanized sheet steel for Grain applications to
much thicker abrasion resistance steels for mined materials with
large lump sizes.
• Reduce the cost of aspiration system for intake hopper up to 75%
in comparison to stand alone bag house installation
7. • Grain processing facilities
Applications
• Fertilizer production facilities
• Cement plants
• Ports
• Lime, rock, ores handling
• Mines/quarries
• Glass production facilities
Depending on type of product processed, different
Burnley® Baffles Models should be applied
12. Burnley® Baffles can be implemented as on-demand
dust suppression device
On-demand
installation
Baffles are installed into a frame, that can be lifted in
and out depending on the product processed
13. • Very common for Grain,
Wheat, Rice, Corn, Meal,
etc
Main benefits
• Maintenance free
• Installations worldwide
• Self-operating
• Time saving
• Suitable for any dry raw material
• Suit any hopper dimensions
• Simple assembly and installation

Grain
Soybean Processing plant in China
Problem
Solution
Burnley® Baffles Model 1
• dumping soybeans to the underground
hopper by truck
With the population of more than 1.3 billion and counting China is one of world’s
leading importers of grain. As more grain processing facilities are built every year the
country’s demand for dust suppression equipment is on the rise.
1.6mm Gal Steel plate
• soybean oil refined plant close to the river
• customer did not want to invest into the
big filter due to the high energy
consumption issue
