TOPIC: WHO IS MY NEIGHBOUR?

MEMORY VERSE: “So then, as the occasion and opportunity open up to us, let us do good (morally) to all
people (not only being useful and profitable to them, but doing what is for their spiritual good and
advantages). Be mindful to be a blessing, especially to those in the household of Faith (Those who belong to
God’s family with you, the believers). Gal610AMP.
Introduction
The story of the Good Samaritan is a quite familiar story, interestingly; the question asked by the lawyer is
still the same many believers are asking today: who is my neighbour? Such a question when asked cunningly
points an accusing finger at God, blaming him for not showing us whom our neighbours are. The real
question that needs to be asked is the question Jesus asked the lawyer: whom have you been a neighbour
to? Alternatively, whom have you been neighbourly to? This question opens you up in your assumption and
points the finger back at you that either you have failed in your responsibility or you are doing a good job as
a neighbour. It also helps you to realise that your neighbour transit beyond your roommates, classmates,
next-door neighbour or fellow believers but everyone whom the good Lord brings along your way to be a
blessing to, the story shows no relationship between the Samaritan and the wounded man.

This question does not assume that you should be on the lookout for anyone that comes along your way
rather it is asking to whom I have shown the love of Christ. Who are those that have witnessed the life of
Christ in you, the New Man. The fragrance of Christ how many have perceive it from you. We saw how
Barnabas took saw and recommended him to the apostle without making any bargain with the Saul for a
favour in return. Any good you do in expectation for a reward is not a neighbourly gesture but an attribute
Cost of being a Neighbour.

Conclusion
If truly we are living the life of the new man, becoming neighbourly will not be a problem for us, we are not
been called to live in isolation but to be neighbours in this intolerable world as the scriptures says: “you are
the world’s seasoning to make it tolerable Matt513aTLB.”
