CHEERDANCE
Cheerdancing rooted from cheerleading
Performance of a routine, usually dominated by
gymnastic skills such as jumps, tumbling skills, lifts
and tosses combined with shouting of cheers and
yells to lead the crowd to cheer for a certain team
during a game or sport.
BRIEF HISTORY OF CHEERDANCE
Originated in the Great Britain during 1860’s and spread to the
United States during 1880’s
 Cheerdance was started by men
During 1884 in Princeton University, the idea that crowd
charting at football games would boost school spirit so they
came up with a catchy cheer.
Ray, Ray, Ray!
Tiger, Tiger, Tiger!
Sis, Sis, Sis!
Boom, Boom, Boom,
Aaaah!, Princeton, Princeton, Princeton!
BRIEF HISTORY OF CHEERDANCE
1920’s - women became involved in cheerleading
1930’s - cheers were aided by the use of Pom –
poms
1940’s - women are mainly leading cheers and
routines
1997 – cheerleading was recognized as an
independent sport
