St. Jude Children's Research Hospital has partnered with the International Atomic Energy Agency to help fight childhood cancer in underdeveloped nations. The partnership aims to raise awareness, generate resources for nuclear medicine services, and support research and training in radiation oncology, as survival rates for pediatric cancer are much lower in developing countries due to lack of medical training and access to treatment.

St. Jude recently announced a partnership with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to
serve children and families in underserved communities. IAEA is an organization dedicated to
promoting the safe and peaceful use of nuclear technology.

According to the World Health Organization, only 20 percent of children from developing countries
survive pediatric cancer, compared to the 80 percent survival rate in high-income countries. The
huge difference is mostly attributed to insufficient medical personnel training, late diagnosis, and
high treatment costs. St. Jude will work closely with the IAEA to raise public awareness of
childhood cancer and generate resources that are necessary for administering nuclear and
radiation medicine services in developing countries. The partnership will also support research
efforts in pediatric radiation oncology and improve professional training in radiotherapy.
