Upon petition from Mr. Niels Bertschat, we hereby issue the present letter of reference regarding his
abilities in the areas of Networking, Marketing & Communications. His outstanding contribution to
InterNations in his role of local Ambassador in Johannesburg (South Africa) from June 2011 to
September 2014 surpassed all our expectations. For this, we are to recommend him without reservation.
With over 1.3 million members, InterNations is the largest expatriate network worldwide. Typically
highly qualified with top jobs, and of all nationalities, InterNations members are 36 years old in average
(between 25 and 50), very mobile and open-minded, and strong multipliers and opinion leaders. With
local chapters in over 390 cities worldwide, this by-invitation-only network connects the professional
expatriate community in monthly networking events worldwide.
In his role as Ambassador for InterNations, Mr. Bertschat has provided an outstanding contribution to
InterNations, showing an absolute determination and capacity to act independently and strategically in
developing the local chapter of InterNations in Johannesburg. In such a role, Mr. Bertschat achieved far
more than was expected from him. With his efforts in promoting our network and monthly Events,
Mr. Bertschat contributed greatly to increasing our member base from 1700 to over 6600, and attracting
as much as 200 members to the monthly events.
In his role as Ambassador, Mr. Bertschat was responsible for communicating with InterNations members,
promoting the monthly events via personal invitations and mailings, fostering expatriate activities online
as well as offline, the hosting of monthly events, and issuing reports and statistics. Mr. Bertschat gave
valuable input and advice on strategic decisions for the entire network and showed exceptional
professionalism in negotiations with high-end venue managers and sponsors. Mr. Bertschat carried out his
tasks very independently and played a pivotal role in promoting the intercultural idea behind InterNations.
