Nicola Renshaw is a freelance composer and arranger of music to screen and concert hall. Born in Manchester, she is classically
trained on bassoon and graduated from Chetham's School of Music in 1998, having performed at the Manchester Hallé Proms,
Bridgewater Hall and achieved Gold in the Open Class at Boosey & Hawkes’ National Concert Festival. As one of twelve finalists in the
BBC New Talent, New TV Composers Scheme (2006) Nicola took part in a series of residential master classes with George Fenton,
conducting the BBC Concert Orchestra performing Fenton's score of 'Planet Earth' at Angel Studios.
In 2010 Nicola completed her Masters in Composition under Prof. Peter Graham at Salford University, achieving outstanding recognition
for her compositions in film, documentary, advertising and brass. Her brass debut ‘Galway Belle’ received performances across the UK
and has since been published by Kirklees Music. In 2013, Nicola received funding from the Arts Council England to compose a 30th
Anniversary piece for Werneth Concert Band. Y Seren Ddawns (A Star Danced) has received performances in Manchester (Royal
Northern College of Music, MediaCityUK and Gorton Monastery) and in Lisbon, Portugal. The commission received PRSF funding to be
recorded by Kew Wind Orchestra in Spring and in January 2015 was published by Studio Music.
“Here is a composer with an excellent sense of line, harmony and pace. Her melody writing has
a sense of purpose and an instinct which elevates it above the norm. Beautiful work!” Prof. P. Graham, 2010
