1. Is Higher Education Worth the Price?
In 2012, the amount of student debt in the United States reached over $1 trillion dollars, surpassing the amount
of credit card debt in the country. Still, some people argue that earning a Bachelor’s degree is an essential step
toward professional success. Others claim, however, that skills rooted in real-world experiences are more
valuable in an ever-evolving job market that values critical thinking, problem solving, and the ability to
collaborate with others.
Using at least three readings from Chapter 14 of They Say / I Say, “Is Higher Education Worth the Price?”, as
well as your own experiences and observations here at Pasadena City College, write an essay in which you
evaluate whether or not the benefits of a college education outweigh the cost.
