History :
According to legend, ancestors of today’s Oromo people in a region of Kaffa in
Ethiopia were believed to have been the first to recognize the energizing effect of
the coffee plant.
Fair trade :
A 2005 study done in Belgium concluded that consumers buying behavior is
not consistent with their positive attitude toward ethical products. On average
46% of European consumers claimed to be willing to pay substantially more for
ethical products, including fair-trade products such as coffee.
Production :
In 2016, world production of green coffee beans was 9.2 million tonnes, led
by Brazil with 33% of the total . Vietnam, Colombia, and Indonesia were other
major producers.
