To Whom It May Concern
I came to know Nial Harding while I was on a studentship at the CSIR - Biosciences group.
During my MSc I had the privilege to work with him directly. My project required advanced
skills in HPLC-MS and method development. Nial was always there to provide me with the
support that I needed to do my work with. He is an excellent mentor and is always willing to
teach you something new. He makes the extra effort to make sure that you understand what
he is doing and at any time you could ask him anything.
The skills Nial possesses in method development, optimising separations and interpreting MS
data are quite unique and he always had a new idea to tackle. He is good at thinking out of
the box and when you need a new perspective, he is definitely the one to go to. Nial provided
me with a lot of support and teachings that I needed to complete my MSc successfully.
I learnt a lot from Nial while I was working with him in the group and can still apply his
teachings in my research today. He shaped my thinking to be a better researcher and better
user of the HPLC-MS that I use almost every day now during my further research work. The
information that I learnt from Nial comes from his passion to teach what he knows to others
willing to listen; and I value them greatly.
