Paola: Gianella and his nephew Ali were riding their horses in the desert. The shik was telling a

Magdalena: (to himself): is that a jewel?

Paola: Magdalena did not stop to look. It was not polite to interrupt his uncle´s story. But he
lowered his sword into the sand to make a line behind him as he rode.

Anita: later that day, Magdalena followed the line back to the jewel.

Magdalena: (to himself): there it is? What a fine jewel.

Anita: Magdalena returned and showed the jewel to his uncle.

Gianella: the owner of such a beautiful jewel must be a princess. We must find her. (The old
woman) grandmother! We need your help! (He hives the old woman the jewel). Find the person
who lost this jewel

Ruth: yes, Gianella.

Paola: the old woman went from camp to camp. No one knew who owned the jewel. Finally, she
came to a camp with big black tents. A beautiful princess welcomed her.

Princess: Come in, grandmother. How can I help you?

Ruth: (holding out the jewel), do you know who lost this?

Princess: (taking something out of a box), look here is my earring. I lost its mate in the desert. See
how they match!

Ruth: (nodding), yes. Take back your jewel. But please tell me your name.

Princess: my name is not important. Here, I give you the two jewels as a gift.
Anita: the old woman returned to her camp. She showed the sheik the jewels.

Gianella: I must meet this princess. She is as generous as a king.

Anita: he rode to the camp with the black tents. There, he met the prince, the father of the
princess.

Gianella: good prince, I came here to ask to marry your daughter.

Prince: (sadly), how can I refuse such a guest? My daughter will be your bride. She is the jewel of
the desert.

Paola: soon the wedding day came. The sheik was near the wedding tent when a young man
spoke to him.

Young man: the princess and I love each other. Her father knew this. But he could not refuse you
because you were his guest. Please let me marry her!

Gianella: you ask only for what is fair. May you and your bride find enjoy.

Magdalena: so it is when people do what is right.
