1. Summary
NehalAl Jabri
I am an undergrad student at the University of North Texas majoring in Material Science
Engineering (MSTE). This major focuses on how to choose the right material for the right
machine or the thing you are making. This major needs creativity, patience, and focus in order
to have the right item for the right machine.
Majoring in MSTE needs many skills which I have. MSTE needs a lot of focusing and thinking in
order to decide the right material. In my MSTE, there is a lot of teamwork. In addition, it needs
leadership skills that I believe I have from my previous experiences from high school and
volunteer work. The activities, courses, and programs that I was doing in my high school helped
me to understand my major’s courses better. The courses that I took in high school such as
Physics, Chemistry, and Calculus readily prepared me for my field. Furthermore, the activities
and the volunteering work I did in my high school improved my personality and improved my
skills. In my high school in Oman, I was the leader of a group that worked on teaching students
how to use their free time when the teacher is absent. We did that by creating learning games
that included the material they were studying in classes. We extended this project to other
schools, and this project was a successful accomplishment in my life.
In summer 2014, I participated in Takatuf Scholars program, a competitive program for
scholarships. I spent three weeks away from home with this program. In those three weeks, I
attended leadership classes, communication classes, critical thinking classes, and IT classes.
Also, we went on trips around Oman where we explored new places. We visited different
historical places in Oman and the tour guide was explaining to us the material that were used.
We visited museums and learned a lot about the materials .Additionally, I worked with a group
of three people on a summer project which taught me teamwork, communication, and problem
solving skills. Moreover, I attended workshops in the winter with this program and graduated
from this program in summer 2015. In addition, I did many volunteer work with my peers
throughout all the years I was in school.
I am doing my bachelor’s degree now. I hope to obtain a position in Material Science
Engineering field after I graduate. I would like to hold a position in a ScientificResearchand
DevelopmentServices department.
