Personal Development Planfor Technology
Due: February 27, 2012
Personal Technology Plan
The integration of technology in schools and library resource centers are critical aspects of the
21st century learner. The dependence on digital literacy and the ability to utilize technology in
the workplace in assisting students and staff is an important skill. This is an inventory of skills
performed in the last six years as a Paraprofessional, Resource Center Specialist and Computer
Lab instructor. The following are significant accomplishments:
Inventory of Skills
 Apple Safari, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Office 2010, Moviemaker, Audacity,
Pixler, brochures, certificates and clipart.
 Architeck, Libguides, at your Library Home page for Franklin at Alma, computer lab,
Clean Slate, flash drives, and presentations.
 Email, E-readers, E-Books and E-radio
 Google docs, Google Presentations, Google Chrome, Google Gmail and Google images.
 Follett ILS, Destiny Quest, Podcast, Mesa Public School databases, Titlewave, BTSB,
Scholastic and A+ Books fairs/ordering, Amazon, Barnes and Noble, and audio books.
 Internet, Goodreads (web sites), Lexile website, Novelist, Listserv, troubleshooting
computers, webct(Blackboard), wireless, printer troubleshooting, scanners, projectors,
Proxima, document camera, laminating, copy machines, FAX machine, Skype and
Webinars.
 Digital camera, smart phone, video camera, Broadband/stacks, TV/VCR/DVD players,
 OBARS and Intouch cashiering system
Mesa Public Schools Databases
The Mesa Public School databases that I currently teach and model during computer lab time
with students are the following sites:
 http://online.culturegrams.com/ , http://www.school.eb.com/ and
https://www.cia.gov/library/publications/the-world-factbook/ CIA World Factbook are
programs that I use with the sixth grade students for their country reports. Students
use it for information, pictures and a second and source for their reports.
 http://www.school.eb.com/ Encyclopedia Britannica School Edition/Biographies/States
is a program that I use with the fifth grade students for their famous American report
and their state reports. I also use Encyclopedia Britannica for the fourth grade Arizona
report and third grade mammal reports.
 http://www.discoveryeducation.com/ The Discovery website is one in which I would like
to explore further possibly for a computer lab lesson or incorporate it in the animal
section of the students Arizona animal and mammal reports.
New Technology
 Document Camera: We received this technology last fall 2011 school year for the
teachers. I plan on further training so I can assist staff members. I will probably need
this camera for the Geography Bee and our very first Battle of the Books at Franklin at
Alma next year.
 http://www.mpsaz.org/smartmath/files/fact_sheet2.pdf The Smart Math program is a
website that we will possibly be using in the computer lab next year for first through
sixth grades. I have attended the introduction to Smart Math class and enjoyed the
training. I think the students will love spending time in the computer lab after they have
done their Mavis Beacon typing lesson to perfect their math skills.
 Mesa Public School Server: I have saved folders to the server through my LBT140 class
but I have not saved information with students in the computer lab. This is possibly a
skill that will be needed with the Smart Math program. At the present, the teachers are
not requiring the students to save to the MPS server.
 Listserv: Presently I am observing a listserv, Fiction_L@maillist.webrary.org andfindingthat
it isveryuseful forreaders’advisorylists. Iampresentlyreceivingemailsdailyfromusersof this
listserv.
 Webjunction http://az.webjunction.org/1 This is a online learning resource for the
community that offers courses and continuing education that is web-based for the
paraprofessional and MLS librarians.
Vision Statement for Technology plan
2012-2013
Looking back, I can see tremendous progress over the last two years regarding my technology
skills. It is undeniable that technology is constantly changing and has opened doors previously
thought to be unattainable for me. I am extremely excited to learn more technology in my
library technology classes through Mesa Community College, future employment classes and
professional development courses provided outside the Mesa Public School District. Integrating
these skills into the computer lab lessons and library technology will expose students to a
wealth of information and prepare them for appropriate internet and technology skills in the
global society.
I plan to increase and enhance my technology repertoire of skills in a variety of ways. First, I
will complete the Library Technology Program and receive the Advanced School Technology
Certification/ AA Degree, June 2013. Learning new technologies and applying them are not
always easy for me but I will enroll in the following professional development courses and
complete them by the end of summer 2012-2013.
 Professional Development courses through Mesa Public Schools for Arkitech
 Continue to explore and improve my MPS Database skills
 Learn to maintain the school server
 Webjunction webinars through Arizona State Library in the summer
 Online courses through Webjunction that can be taken during the summer
 Participate in the Webjunction technology discussion board threads
 Use Webjunction as a resource tool for continued learning
 Participate in the AZ Roundup by learning the 13 dozen technology skills especially video
sharing.
