My Tuition Hub boasts a team of exceptional IB English tutors who are
among the most accomplished worldwide, possessing extensive expertise in
the field. It is common knowledge that English is a universally spoken
language, taught and utilized across the globe. With a staggering global
population of 7.5 billion, approximately 1.27 billion individuals are fluent in
English, accounting for approximately 17% of the total world populace.
Moreover, English stands as the most prevalent language internationally,
being the primary means of communication in international meetings,
conferences, trade shows, and business interactions. Furthermore,
navigating life in a foreign country without English proficiency can prove to
be immensely challenging.
The English curriculum offered in IB schools is of an international nature,
and it is preferred that IB English online tutors possess native fluency in the
language. Native speakers have been acquainted with English from a young
age, solidifying their command over it. Additionally, students enrolled in the
International Baccalaureate program, particularly those taking IB English
Literature, are increasingly seeking the assistance of online tutors
specialized in IB English.
IB English Curriculum Part 1: Readers, Writers, and Texts This inquiry
explores readers' responses and the process by which literary works
construct meaning. The focus lies in cultivating personal and critical
reactions to specific literary texts. The selected works encompass a diverse
range of literary genres.
Part 2: Time and Space This segment delves into the contextual settings of
literary works and the multifaceted influence of literary discourse on society
as a whole. Emphasizing the necessity of considering personal and cultural
perspectives, expanding one's horizons, and acknowledging how context
shapes the interpretation of textual passages. The chosen works reflect an
array of historical and cultural outlooks.
Part 3: Intertextuality: Establishing Connections One of the central aspects
of this research pertains to the interconnections between various literary
works. The literature selected aids students in delving deeper into their
subjects, facilitating meaningful comparisons. Consequently, students can
engage in comprehensive class discussions on diverse themes, concerns,
literary styles, generic conventions, and literary traditions. The primary focus
My Tuition Hub
is on fostering critical responses founded on a thorough understanding of
the intricate relationships between literary texts.
IB English Examination Structure The assessment of IB Literature and
English Language comprises both internal and external components. The
internal assessment accounts for 70% of the total grade and is divided into
three parts. Additionally, the external assessment contributes 30% to the
overall grade and encompasses oral activities. Notably, there are
distinctions between the IB English SL (Standard Level) and HL (Higher
Level) tests, as outlined below:
SL (Standard Level) The external assessment for SL spans a duration of 3
hours and contributes to 70% of the total grade. It comprises the following
components:
 Paper 1 (20 marks, 35%): Textual Analysis. Each student is provided
with a question pertaining to the assigned non-literary readings.
Furthermore, students must choose one of the provided texts and
respond to the corresponding analysis question.
 Paper 2 (Essay/30 marks, 35%): The Comparative Essay extends for 1
hour and 45 minutes. Students are required to select one of four
questions as a basis for comparing and contrasting two previously
studied works of literature.
Internal Assessment (30%)
 Individual Oral (15 minutes and 40 marks, 30%): Students are
expected to prepare a ten-minute oral response for both a literary
and a non-literary text.
HL (Higher Level) The external assessment for HL entails a 4-hour
examination, contributing to 80% of the total grade. It comprises the
following components:
 Paper 1 (35%, 40 marks): Guided Text Analysis. The duration of this
task is 2 hours and 15 minutes. Students analyze two distinct forms of
non-literary writings, accompanied by questions prompting them to
explore the emotional impact of the texts.
 Paper 2 (25%, 30 marks): Students are required to write a
comparative essay comparing and contrasting two previously studied
works of literature. They must select one of four questions to guide
their analysis.
 HL Essay (20%, 20 marks): The HL Essay involves preparing an essay
on either a single literary work or a collection of non-literary works by
the same author. Students may also choose to write about literature
they have studied. The essay should range between 1,200 and 1,500
words.
Internal Assessment (20%, 40 marks) The oral examination consists of two
parts:
 The first part involves a prepared spoken response of 10 minutes to a
literary and a non-literary text.
 The second part entails a 5-minute response to a question posed by
the instructor.
