Forget haunted houses—what frightens us the
most this time of year is the candy tempting us
everywhere we go. The harder we try to resist
the treats, the more wrappers we leave in our
wake. But then we read a new study that
gave us more reason to steer clear:
Australian researchers found that diets
rich in palm kernel oil, an ingredient
found in many of our favorite sweet treats,
can impair satiety signals in the brain, increasing appetite
and promoting fat storage. We can’t have that, so we went in
search of goodies made without the harmful oil and found some
