2. ECOlution 2013
WHAT IS ECOLUTION?
ECOlution 2013 – the third annual fashion show fundraiser benefitting the Melissa Carter Transplant
Fund and the Georgia Transplant Foundation – is currently scheduled for Earth Day, Monday, April 22nd
at Southface. Recycling is the theme of the evening, but it’s about more than just sorting paper from
plastic. The benefiting organizations help those who depend on the ultimate act of recycling – receiving a
new kidney, heart, liver or lungs to give them a second chance at life.
All ECOlution models – celebrities or otherwise – have in some way been affected by organ
transplantation. This unique fashion presentation of recycled and environmentally friendly designs, will
be modeled by the donors, doctors and nurses of the transplant community, in addition to transplant
recipients. This makes ECOlution the only show where both the fashions AND models are recycled ,
reinforcing the important message of the evening: encouraging guests to become organ donors.
Guests of ECOlution 2013 will enjoy cocktails and heavy hors d’oeurves, music by DJ Camille and of
course – an opportunity to become an organ donor. The highly anticipated silent and live auctions
contributes 100% of proceeds to The Melissa Carter Transplant Fund and the Georgia Transplant
Foundation. Past items have included autographed Michael Jackson memorabilia, Disney On Ice tickets,
weekend getaways, sold out concert tickets to see Jay-Z & Kanye West, Sugarland, Usher and Lady
Antebellum, a weekend getaway courtesy of the Four Seasons, back stage passes to The Mo’Nique Show
and much, much more.

MELISSA CARTER
Founder, The Melissa Carter Transplant Fund & ECOlution
Media Personality & Writer
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Melissa Carter is a columnist for The Huffington Post and Georgia
Voice. Her writing talent is no surprise to her fans who came to
love her as a morning show celebrity for ten years in Atlanta on
"the Bert show.“ During her time as co-host of the top ranked
show, she also served as News Anchor & Director. She wrote all
of her own ads for clients she endorsed including MetroPCS,
Audi, Mercedes-Benz, Apple, and Coca-Cola.
Though she spent 10 years at “The Bert Show” – which is
syndicated in Nashville and Indianapolis – it was not her first
foray into national media. She was proudly the Co-Host and
News Anchor at “Radio With a Twist,” the only syndicated
broadcast radio program geared toward the gay community. In
this role, the opportunity for a national voice began, with the
show being carried in 13 cities across the US and Canada.
During her career, Melissa has served as Grand Marshall in Atlanta's Gay Pride Parade,
Provincetown's Carnival Parade, hosted the Provincetown Carnival Concert, was honored as
"Best Radio DJ" by several local papers, performed in Atlanta productions of "The Vagina
Monologues," and appeared in the online game "Global Agenda." A personal career highlight
was when she helped establish the Melissa Carter Transplant Fund at Piedmont Hospital in
2005, after having her own kidney transplant in 2002. Melissa wrote and performed the song,
“Unplugged,” with a little help from vocal coach to the stars and industry legend, Jan Smith.
The single is available on iTunes and amazon.com with proceeds benefitting the Fund.
Her namesake charity is far from her only philanthropic endeavor. When she’s not visiting
patients, making personal appearances, or delivering speeches on diversity issues; she sits on
the board of the Atlanta Police Department LGBT Advisory Board and the American Kidney
Foundation while being a vital part of GLAAD’s Leadership Council. Melissa has been awarded
the SunTrust Aspiring Women Award, HRC Community Leadership Award, the University of
Tennessee Television News Award and the CHRIS Kids’ Kyle Anderson Service to Youth Award.
Melissa is currently on air at All News 106.7.
Keep up with Melissa via her blog at www.melissatimes.com.
