Hustle Into a Business

2. My Story
How I went from a
part-time gig, to a
full-time business
with a flourishing
team of over 25.

3. Why am I the person
to talk about this?
➢ I felt stuck in my 9 to 5 job working at a strict
PR firm, with no real room for growth.
➢ This led me to start freelancing in 2017 by
lightly introducing my own clients on the side.
➢ I was then Introduced to UpWork in 2019
when I needed to make a higher side hustle
earning potential.
➢ After just a year, I started earning more than
double my day job on the side.
➢ From there my business was born!
4. Side Hustle Phase
➢ You have a day job but:
■ You could use some side money.
■ You want to hone in on a passion or skill.
■ Open yourself up to new paths and opportunities.
➢ Where people find side hustle opportunities:
■ Freelancer sites - UpWork, Fiverr, Thumbtack
■ Networking events - like this :)
■ Friends/Referrals
5. Concerns on Shifting to
Full-Time
➢ How can you make a full-time gig work?
➢ Creating your own business - It can be a scary
thing for the following reasons:
■ Being your own boss
■ No Insurance
■ No financial security
■ The buck stops with you
➢ I was scared myself, but once I took that giant leap,
I’ve never looked back.
6. How to Identify When It's Time to
Shift to Full-Time
Survey Budgeting Design
➢ You're making almost as much or even more money in your side hustle as
your current job.
➢ You've been shifting your focus more heavily on you side gig.
➢ Friends and family are asking if they can start working with you.
➢ You've built your own rolodex of clients
7. Questions To
Think About
➢ What’s stopping you from
creating your own business?
➢ What are your biggest fears of
creating your own business?
➢ Or if you already made the leap,
what are the top barriers you felt
when you did make that leap?
8. When You Know It’s Time…
➢ Once you start making as much if not more money on the side than
your day job it’s a good sign that it is time to start investing in:
■ Yourself
■ Your abilities
■ Your education
■ Your business
➢ Once you feel like your side hustle is stagnant because you do not
have enough time to allow your potential to hit full growth.
9. So what’s next?
• Create your business! What type?
• Contract
• Website
• Invoicing - payment system
• Are you starting off on your own or are you
trying to build a team?
● Freelancers or Full-timers
• Solidify your offerings
• Let people know you’ve made your move!
11. It’s not Personal, it’s Business
It Is Personal, it’s YOUR Business
Survey Budgeting Design
➢ Why does it matter to let your personality shine?
■ Customers choose companies based on more than just price.
■ Helps with talent acquisition

clients and staff
■ Chief Barking Officers 🐶
12.
13. Delegating Duties Diligently
➢ For me: day-to-day pitching, talking to every client on a daily basis, what
duties that were once yours have you had to pass off?
➢ In order for you to grow your business you have to be comfortable
delegating operational tasks to others
■ Requires a staff you can trust
■ Everyone needs to understand the overarching vision of the company
■ Invest in mentoring your team
■ Understand that NOT everyone is you 💡
14. So how do you build a team that
you can count on to take care of
important responsibilities?
15. ➢ Building a team is like a jigsaw puzzle
■ If you want a team that shares your vision it starts with who you hire
■ Why should you consider to hire for hustle first?
■ Having a short and long term vision with your hires.
➢ Give people a chance to prove themselves
■ Hiring people as interns or part-time allows you to find talent outside
of the industry.
■ You are looking for hustle and a shared vision, you can teach the
rest.
How to Hire
16. No Longer an Employee
Survey Budgeting Design
➢ Being a boss comes with new
responsibilities and roles
■ Wearing many hats
■ Managing client expectations
■ Managing your relationship with
your staff
➢ Stresses that come with ownership
● Changing clients
● Responsibility for your
employees’ livelihoods
17.
18. ➢ Who do you ask for help?
■ Find mentors who have been there before
■ Network within the community of startup
founders (like this conference) for promotion and
insight
➢ Take care of yourself
■ Understand what is in your control and what
isn’t
■ Therapy is cool now
Making Yourself a Priority
19. Why Becoming Your Own Boss
Can Be A Beautiful Thing
➢ Once you become your own boss it’s hard to go back
➢ You are building something bigger than yourself. You are
creating a team!
➢ You are using your experience & your company to build
others dreams both team and clients
➢ Helps build self confidence and authority for you in your
space
