Software Tools, Pros and Cons
https://www.linkedin.com/in/michele-taverna
Some opinion...
Microsoft Project is widely used, mainly as stand-alone, and can be considered as a
standard. Easy to schedule activities, determine critical path, resource planning and
sharing.
Tenrox has a strong tracking for hours-budget-expenses and an extensive reporting tools.
Trello is simple and intuitive to use, agile friendly. As Asana is free.
Both are great for collaboration, even for teams not in the same company.
Jira reporting is weak.
Next Project is freeware and easy to use. Put all PM methods on one place.
ProjectLibre in an interesting free alternative to MS Project.
ProjectManager.com has great reporting, status tracking and resource task assignments,
but only SaaS based and no on-premises offering.
Excel, surely not PM designed, but is a simple and flexible way to perform many tasks.

Software Tools, Experiences

Some opinion...
Many Project Managers with years of experience
think Microsoft Project is the favorite tool.
Someone use the only tools available in the
organization, not always perceived as the best ones.
In order to connect all team's members, platforms as
Trello and Asana seems to be great choices. Even
though they are not the best tools, collaboration they
offer is valuable.

Some opinion...
Waterfall is the most accepted way to schedule
hardware development and deployment projects.
Makes also easy to run parallel projects for same
end-customer on different deployments sites.
For bigger projects, Waterfall is more suitable.
