2. *WHAT IN THE WORLD OF WRESTLING*
FADE IN:
INT. LOCATION #1 - THE JONES HOUSE (FRONT ROOM). DAY
The front room is incredibly tidy and has recently been
decorated. It has clearly been maintained with military
precision over the years.
Fixed cameras have been placed all over the Jones house.
There is also a camera setup in the front room where they can
talk directly to the camera about their week.
MARY JONES (50, housewife, rock of the family), DAVE JONES
(55, retired, portly, nice at heart) and HARRY JONES (21,
Tall, Skinny, witty and unemployed) all come into shot. Dave
sits in his usual place which has a freshly made groove in
the couch. Harry slouches down next to his dad, clearly
trying to hide his nerves about having to talk directly to
camera. Mary looks unnatural sitting bolt upright but this is
her default sitting position. Harry pushes his dad to start
talking.
HARRY
Go on then dad, say something
Harry nudges his dad, Dave looks at him and begins to speak.
DAVE
Do you know how long I was in the
business? Me and the camera are
like one--
MARY
Shut it you two
(pause)
Mary stops herself from swearing because she is on camera.
She puts on her usual false smile that she makes whenever she
thinks she’s being watched or judged.
MARY (CONT’D)
We are the Jones family and this is
my husband Dave
Dave half ignores Mery and begins talking to her as if she is
his biggest fan and the camera is his audience.
DAVE
Do you know that I once wrestled
Mickey the Mauler and Billy the
Butcher on the same night?

3. Mary stares blankly at Dave. She looks into the camera,
pauses for a few seconds and continues.
MARY (CONT’D)
And this our son, Harry
Dave cuts across Mary again, much to her annoyance.
DAVE
He’s gonna follow in my foot steps
one day, aren’t ya son?
HARRY
They’ll call me Horrendous Harry
Harry flexes his imaginary muscles. His words say one thing
but his eyes say another, he clearly wasn’t made to be a
wrestler and he knows it. Dave can’t contain himself and
begins to laugh at Harry’s wrestling name.
DAVE
That’s a proper shit name that son
The smile disappears from Harry’s face. Mary cuts across Dave
quickly so he doesn’t hurt Harry’s feelings.
MARY
Remind me of your wrestling name
again, Dave?
DAVE
You know I was Dangerous Dave,
Mary. Why are you even asking?
Dave doesn’t see the irony in mocking Harry’s potential
wrestling name but not seeing that his own name was just as
bad.
Mary looks into the camera again, hoping the audience
understand what she has to put up with
MARY
No reason, love
(pause)
Must have slipped my mind
HARRY
I think she’s trying to say your
name was shit too, dad
Dave looks at his son and then at his wife, he tries to work
out if that was the point she was making.

4. Harry is grinning like a Cheshire cat, he loves to get one
over on his dad. Mary tries to defuse the situation by
changing the subject.
MARY
Right, it’s quiet time now. I’m
gonna do some washing, you two best
not be sat on your behinds all day.
Mary walks off as Dave and Harry begin to play fight on the
couch.
INT. LOCATION #2 - THE JONES HOUSE (SPARE ROOM). DAY 12:30
Dust infests the surroundings of the spare bedroom. The room
has been turned into a shrine to Dave’s wrestling career. He
has collected all kinds of his own memorabilia, from figures
to posters and everything in between. The room is in a time
warp and is clearly not as loved by the person who cleans the
rest of the house. Dave has lots of great memories from his
years in the business, but he has found it hard to go back
into the room since his career finished.
THE CAMERA PANS AROUND TO SEE DAVE STOOD IN THE CORNER
Dave turns around and has something in his hand. He wipes the
dust off to reveal a picture of him and his wrestling
friends.
He is clearly in a world of his own and looks like a
different man compared to the first scene, he yearns for the
days of old but knows they aren’t coming back.
Dave takes one last look, raises a small smile as he puts the
picture down. He begins to walk out of the room but stops to
take one last look inside, he sighs and slowly closes the
door.
INT. LOCATION #3 - THE JONES HOUSE (HALLWAY). DAY 12:35
Dave is walking down the hallway aimlessly. He begins to
mimic old wrestling moves in an attempt to get into a better
mood.
DAVE
Dangerous Dave has got him up!
Dave pretends he’s holding one of his old rivals in the air.
DAVE (CONT’D)
He’s gonna slam him! Lord have
mercy!

5. He slams his pretend opponent and slowly jumps to the floor
to cover him
DAVE (CONT’D)
Oh my god! 1...2....3.
(pause)
Dangerous Dave has done it!
We hear Mary’s voice from downstairs. She has heard the
commotion upstairs and instantly knows what it is. She
forgets that the camera can hear her.
MARY
Dave, Stop pissing about and do
something useful
You can hear her gasp downstairs as she realises what she
just said. She shouts up again in a futile attempt to salvage
her pretend character from the all seeing cameras.
MARY (CONT’D)
Stop messing about
(pause)
I said messing...
Dave once again ignores Mary, but snaps back into reality. An
imaginary light bulb goes off in his head and he makes a
beeline for Harry’s room.
INT. LOCATION #4 - THE JONES HOUSE (HARRY’S BEDROOM). DAY
12:38
Harry is sat at his desk with his headphones on. His laptop
screen cannot be seen but it is obvious what he is doing.
Dave comes crashing through the door and Harry is sent into a
panic of trying to put his pants on and close the laptop
screen at the same time. Dave doesn’t notice Harry’s panic in
his own excitement, he sits on the bed.
DAVE
I’ve been thinking son--
HARRY
About knocking before entering?
DAVE
What?
(pause)
No
(pause)
What?
HARRY
Never mind

6. DAVE
Anyway. You know how your mum keeps
calling us a bunch of lazy so and
so’s?
HARRY
I am aware of this development
DAVE
Well I’ve come up with a solution
(pause)
I’m gonna teach you how to wrestle
Harry swivels round in his chair, his pants on back to front.
He looks horrified but can’t bring himself to tell his dad
that he doesn’t want to follow in his footsteps.
HARRY
But we don’t have a ring
DAVE
Exactly!
Dave grabs the laptop off the desk as Harry protests and
tries to grab it back from his dad in vain. Harry closes his
eyes in horror as Dave opens the laptop and see’s what Harry
has been looking at. Dave lets out a laugh as it becomes
obvious what Harry was up to.
DAVE (CONT’D)
No shame in that son. One a day
keeps the plumbing working nicely
HARRY
Really didn’t need to hear that
Dave opens a new tab and searches for used wrestling rings.
He is not fussy and picks the first one he sees. Dave clicks
buy before Harry even has chance to protest the decision.
DAVE
Done
HARRY
Mum is gonna kill you
DAVE
Mum won’t find out though will see.
(pause)
I’ll tell her when it arrives,
there’s no way she’ll make us send
it back then

7. HARRY
Us? I’m fairly certain it was your
money and your idea
DAVE
Don’t be a smart arse, Harry
Harry laughs. Dave stands up and begins to leave the room, he
turns around.
DAVE (CONT’D)
You tell your mum about the ring
(pause)
And I'll tell her about your love
of the ‘older lady’
Harry’s face drops as Dave walks out of the room laughing.
INT. LOCATION #5 - THE JONES HOUSE (HALLWAY). DAY 14:00
Dave is stood in the hallway on the phone, he is doing his
best to keep his voice down. He is trying to get the ring
delivered at a time when Mary is likely to be out. The
company he bought the ring from are dubious at best.
DAVE
Hi, This is Dave Jones and I bought
the deluxe used ring earlier today
CUSTOMER SERVICE
Yeah?
DAVE
I was just wondering if there was
any way of getting it delivered
tomorrow morning
(pause)
You may of heard of me
CUSTOMER SERVICE
Oh?
DAVE
Well I don’t like to brag, but I
used to go by the name of Dangerous
Dave
The customer service helper has clearly never heard of Dave,
there is an awkward pause and he begins to speak again.

8. CUSTOMER SERVICE
That’s good
(pause)
Er, what was it that I was helping
you with?
Dave stares blankly at the phone, completely shocked and
annoyed.
DAVE
Can you deliver my ring tomorrow at
ten in the morning?
CUSTOMER SERVICE
We can’t promise delivery times
DAVE
What if I give you an extra two
hundred quid? Would that be fair to
the other customers?
The customer service man doesn’t miss a beat.
CUSTOMER SERVICE
What time was it you were after
again?
DAVE
Ten, tomorrow morning.
CUSTOMER SERVICE
As it so happens, a delivery slot
has just opened up for tomorrow
morning at ten. we’ll see you
bright and early
DAVE
What are the chances, eh. Do yo not
need any details to confirm who I
am?
CUSTOMER SERVICE
Nah, I’ve got all your details on
the screen here
DAVE
You have heard of Dangerous Dave
though, haven’t you?
The phone goes dead as Dave waits for an answer. He mutters
something under his breath.

9. DAVE (CONT’D)
Of course they’ve heard of me, why
would they do a special delivery
for me otherwise
INT. LOCATION #6 - THE JONES HOUSE (HARRY’S BEDROOM). DAY
17:00
Harry is sat in his bedroom with his best friend JEREMY (21,
immature, also unemployed). Harry is on his laptop and Jeremy
is on his phone. They are talking about Dave and how Harry is
enjoying having his dad back at home after years of not
seeing much of him. Harry and Jeremy have a very immature
sense of humour.
JEREMY
Have you seen this?
Harry shows little interest in what Jeremy wants to share,
it’s usually cat memes or videos of people hurting
themselves.
JEREMY (CONT’D)
Fine, I guess you don’t want to see
this picture of your dad
HARRY
Why are you looking at pictures of
my dad? Are you into my dad?
JEREMY
Yes.
(pause)
I am specifically gay for your dad
and it has taken me years of sole
searching and Google images to
realise
Harry looks at Jeremy and abruptly changes the subject to
something even more embarrassing.
HARRY
He caught me looking at old lady
porn before
Jeremy begins laughing hysterically, Harry also has a smirk
on his face.
JEREMY
Horrifying
(pause)
Bet you’re glad he’s home

10. HARRY
I’m surprised how nice it is to
have him back actually. He never
shuts up about wrestling but at
least he’s here to talk about it
Jeremy stands up and pretends he has a microphone in his
hand. He begins to do an impression of a ring announcer.
JEREMY
(shouting)
Standing in this corner, from right
here in this bedroom
(pause)
Sensitive Harry
HARRY
Can you not resist taking the piss,
or is it an illness?
INT. LOCATION #7 - THE JONES HOUSE (KITCHEN). DAY 9:45AM
Mary is stood in the kitchen making drinks, she hasn't slept
well and isn’t in the best of moods. Dave is sat at the table
pretending to read the paper. He is waiting for Mary to tell
him she is heading out to do the weekly food shopping.
Dave puts the paper down.
DAVE
Stocks are getting low Mary
Mary lowers her brew and stares at Dave
MARY
I know you’re rushed off your feet
today, what with all the wrestling
stories you need to tell
DAVE
Don’t be like that Mary
(pause)
You know I have bad knees from--
MARY
Your years in the wrestling
business, I know
Dave picks the paper up and pretends to read it again. He
puts it in front of his face so Mary can’t see him.

11. MARY (CONT’D)
I’m going shopping tomorrow anyway
The paper comes back down against and Dave looks aghast at
Mary’s decision.
DAVE
You always go shopping on a
Wednesday
MARY
Not this week
DAVE
Why?
MARY
I’m sorry, did you become my boss
without me being informed?
DAVE
No, It’s just I needed some
(pause)
Shaving foam
MARY
A minute ago you were complaining
that the cupboards were empty, and
now you need shaving foam?
DAVE
It’s an old habit, you know I like
to keep my legs clean shaven
MARY
Are you anticipating a lot of
growth in the next 24 hours?
Dave looks at his legs and then has a quick glance around the
room, he spots that the washing up liquid is nearly running
out.
DAVE
We need some new washing up liquid
too
MARY
We? Have you been sneaking
downstairs at night and washing the
dishes?

12. Dave looks at his watch and sees that the delivery van will
be arriving in less than fifteen minutes. He picks up his
wallet and sees if he can bribe Mary.
DAVE
How about you go and treat yourself
to something nice?
MARY
I can’t be bothered, I just want to
relax. Anyway, Harry stayed at
Jeremy’s last night so we’ve got
the house to ourselves
Mary strokes Dave’s stubbly leg.
DAVE
Told you I need that shaving foam
MARY
Can we not just have a nice moment?
DAVE
Hold that thought, I need a wee
Dave tries to walk out of the kitchen without Mary noticing
his panic.
The delivery van is only 10 minutes away and Mary is not
budging.
INT. LOCATION #7 - THE JONES HOUSE (MAIN BEDROOM). DAY
9:50AM
Dave walks into the bedroom and quietly closes the door
behind himself. He is racking his brain trying to come up
with a way to get Mary out of the house. Dave pulls his
mobile phone out of his pocket and goes through his contacts,
he stops on ‘home’ and presses ‘call’.
INT. LOCATION #8 - THE JONES HOUSE (KITCHEN) - DAY 9:53AM
Mary hears the phone ringing but is in no rush to pick it up.
She continues to drink her tea. She eventually picks up.
MARY
Hello, Mary Jones speaking?
INT. LOCATION #9 - THE JONES HOUSE (BEDROOM) - DAY 9:54AM
Dave clears his throat and starts to speak in a high tone,
trying to mask his voice.

13. DAVE
Hello Mrs. Jones, This is Billy
Jackson from Finley Police Station.
Your son Harry was arrested last
night and has asked me to contact
you
MARY
Oh god, what has he done officer?
DAVE
We found him drunk on the street so
thought it was best to put him in
the cell to sober up overnight
MARY
He won’t get a criminal record will
he?
DAVE
Not if you set off now
MARY
What?
DAVE
Sorry, just a bit of police humour.
(pause)
Can you come pick him up right now
though?
MARY
Of course, I’ll be there in ten
minute
DAVE
Thank you Mrs. Jones
Dave opens the bedroom door slightly so he can hear Mary
downstairs.
INT. LOCATION #10 - THE JONES HOUSE (KITCHEN). DAY 9:55AM
Mary is rushing around the kitchen trying to find her keys.
She is muttering to herself and is very angry with Harry.
MARY
I’m going to kill him
(pause)
Drunk on the street
(pause)
My child drunk on the street

14. Mary finally finds the keys and puts her coat on. She heads
out of the door and slams it shut behind her.
INT. LOCATION #11 - THE JONES HOUSE (MAIN BEDROOM) DAY
9:56AM
Dave sits on the bed and takes a huge sigh of relief, he
places the phone on the bedside table and lies down
momentarily.
Dave knows he is going to be in trouble when Mary realises
what he’s done but he is hoping to combine her anger from the
wrestling ring and the fake phone call into one argument.
As Dave begins to sit up, he can hear noise from downstairs,
he walks onto the landing to see what is going on.
INT. LOCATION #12 - THE JONES HOUSE (KITCHEN). DAY 9:58AM
Mary comes rushing back into the house.
She has a nervous bladder and needs to use the toilet before
she goes to pick Harry up from the police station.
INT. LOCATION #13 - THE JONES HOUSE (LANDING) DAY 9:58AM
Mary comes rushing up the stairs as Dave looks down in
horror, the ring is being delivered any minute and Mary is
sure to find out now.
DAVE
Mary
(pause)
I thought you were going--
Dave realises that he shouldn’t know about the fake
conversation he just had with Mary
Mary rushes into the bathroom and slams the door behind her.
Her voice can be heard through the door.
MARY
I told you, I’m not going shopping
(pause)
Harry’s been arrested
Dave feigns surprise
DAVE
Do you not need to go and pick him
up?
(MORE)

15. (pause)
Like right now?
MARY
I was going
DAVE
So why are you still here?
MARY
I forgot to brush my teeth, Dave
Dave gives up on the conversation and rushes down the stairs
and out of the front door.
EXT. LOCATION #14 - THE JONES HOUSE (DRIVEWAY). DAY 10:00AM
The delivery van is seen slowly approaching the house. Dave
comes running furiously out of the house and down the road in
an attempt to intercept it. He jumps in front of the van and
the driver is forced to slam his breaks on, very nearly
running Dave over.
VAN DRIVER
(shouting)
Dickhead
The driver winds his window down and asks Dave what he is
playing at. It takes Dave a few seconds to catch his breath
before he can tell him about the predicament.
VAN DRIVER (CONT’D)
What the fuck--
DAVE
Calm down
(gasp)
I’m the guy who ordered the
(gasp)
Ring
VAN DRIVER
And you thought jumping in front of
the van was how we usually
delivered stuff?
DAVE
My wife
(gasp)
Doesn’t know that I bought the
bloody thing
The van driver just stares blankly at Dave and doesn’t quite
understand what the big deal is.
DAVE (CONT'D)

16. DAVE (CONT’D)
You don’t know my wife
(gasp)
She’s a good woman
(gasp)
But she’s gonna kill me
(gasp)
When she finds out about this ring
The van driver laughs at how serious Dave’s tone is. Dave
finally catches his breath and comes up with a plan.
VAN DRIVER
So what do you want me to do about
this situation?
DAVE
You could come back in say, half an
hour?
VAN DRIVER
Listen mate, I know you paid extra
for this delivery but I’ve got
other customers to get to today
(pause)
I can’t be piss arsing about here
all day
DAVE
What if I give you some more money?
VAN DRIVER
Nope. I’m not the money man, I’m
the van man
Dave is quickly running out of ideas, but then a light bulb
goes off in his head.
DAVE
Let me in
VAN DRIVER
Strict policies say only the driver
is allowed in the van
DAVE
Bullshit
VAN DRIVER
Worth a try
Dave opens the passenger door and jumps in the van.

17. DAVE
Right, turn around
VAN DRIVER
I could get the sack for this
DAVE
For what? Turning around?
The van driver does as Dave says.
DAVE (CONT’D)
Right, take your next right, we’re
gonna go round the back.
VAN DRIVER
This wife of yours sounds like a
keeper
INT. LOCATION #15 - THE JONES HOUSE (BATHROOM). DAY 10:05AM
The bathroom is at the back of the house and has the only
window that has a full view of the garden and the street.
Mary is sat on the toilet. She is muttering to herself and
questioning the phone call.
MARY
Where was Jeremy?
(pause)
Why wasn’t he arrested?
She glances out of the window and sees a delivery van slowly
approaching the garden driveway. She has no idea what is
going on until the company logo comes into view. She quickly
realises why Dave was trying to get her out of the house and
why she got a strange phone call from Billy Jackson at the
police station.
MARY (CONT’D)
(shouting)
Dave
(shouting)
I’m going to kill you
(pause)
I’m going to absolutely kill you
Mary tries to pull her pants up but her nervous bladder is
playing up again because of this new situation. She sits
impatiently and is growing more angry by the second.

18. MARY (CONT’D)
Why
(pause)
Why does he do these things to me
Mary finally pulls her pants up and rushes out of the
bathroom, down the stairs and out of the back door.
INT. LOCATION #16 - THE JONES HOUSE (DRIVEWAY). DAY 10:05AM
The van has stopped on the drive at the back of the house.
Dave seems confident that Mary hasn’t noticed any of the
commotion.
Mary comes flying out of the back door and has a face like
thunder. She sees Dave sat next to the driver and makes a
beeline for him, Dave locks the door and slinks down into his
seat.
MARY
(shouting)
Dave
(shouting)
You best have a new job as a
delivery driver that you haven’t
told me about
Mary grabs the door handle and begins to yank on it
VAN DRIVER
Oi, don’t break the handle
MARY
(shouting)
Keep out of it you
Dave winds the window down slightly so Mary can hear him but
not enough so she can get at him.
DAVE
Mary, I can explain
MARY
(shouting)
Get out of the van Dave--
DAVE
And you won’t shout
MARY
(shouting)
What do you think?
17.

19. Harry comes running out of Jeremy’s house, which is only a
few doors down from the JONES house.
HARRY
Mum, what’s going on?
MARY
(shouting)
Oh here he is, fresh from the
police station
HARRY
What are you talking about? I’ve
been at Jeremy’s all night
Mary points at Dave
MARY
Your father rang me pretending to
be a police officer
Harry looks at his dad, who looks like a frightened mouse and
laughs
HARRY
I told you she’d find out, should
have just told her in the first
place
Dave shouts through the window
DAVE
Don’t you get involved
The van driver is growing increasingly impatient with the
situation.
VAN DRIVER
Can I deliver this wrestling ring
or what?
This just makes the situation worse and sends Mary into an
even bigger rage
MARY
(shouting)
You bought a wrestling ring?
(pause)
A wrestling ring?
(pause)
Well you can take it back, we don’t
want it

20. VAN DRIVER
You’ve got another thing coming if
you think I’m taking it back
DAVE
Please, you’re just making her
angrier
Harry tries to calm the situation down by telling Mary that
his dads intentions were good.
HARRY
Come on mum, he bought it so he
could teach me to wrestle--
DAVE
Exactly, Mary
MARY
Why didn’t you tell me Dave?
DAVE
Because I knew you’d get angry
MARY
And telling me my son was arrested
for being drunk on the street would
help that how?
HARRY
I don’t even drink
VAN DRIVER
Can I deliver this ring or not
MARY, DAVE AND HARRY
(shouting)
Shut up
The delivery driver throws his arms in the air and sits in
silence. Mary takes a minute to think about what she should
do, she makes a decision based on what Harry said.
MARY
Right
(pause)
We can keep it
(pause)
But I’m extremely annoyed at you
David Jones
HARRY
Full named, oh the shame

21. Dave looks happy but knows he’s in for more backlash from
Mary once this has all settled down. He opens the door and
gets out of the van.
DAVE
Shall we have a group hug then?
MARY
Don’t push it
The van driver gets out and opens up the back doors. Mary
walks round and looks at the size of all the pieces.
MARY (CONT’D)
Don’t expect me to be carrying any
of that
DAVE
But it’s an age old tradition that
the trainees carry and build the
ring--
MARY
Do you ever learn?
DAVE
I’m only kidding, go inside and
make some brews
Mary looks blankly at Dave, shakes her head and goes inside
DAVE (CONT’D)
I was kidding about that too
(pause)
Honest
INT. LOCATION #17 - THE JONES HOUSE (GARAGE). DAY 10:05AM
Harry and Dave start unloading the van with he help of the
driver. It is clear that Harry is no help when lifting the
heavier items.
DAVE
Lift with your legs son
HARRY
I could lift with my legs, back,
arms and head and it wouldn’t be
any use
Harry stands to one side as Dave and the driver make quick
work of all the pieces.

22. He names himself project manager and tells them where each
piece should go, so it’s easier when it comes time to put it
together.
HARRY (CONT’D)
That long piece goes with this long
piece
DAVE
Some top notch detective work there
HARRY
My knowledge comes from many years
in the wrestli--
DAVE
Point taken
Dave and the driver bring in the last piece and they are both
tired. Mary reappears with cups of tea for them all. She
gives Dave a kiss
MARY
It’s a good job I love you, you old
fool
The driver grabs his clipboard and gets Dave to sign off on
the delivery.
DAVE
Thanks for all your help--
MARY
Sorry for shouting at you
HARRY
It’s a funny story to tell at least
The delivery van driver smirks and checks his paperwork
VAN DRIVER
Next time you order something from
us, ask for Mark
DAVE
Didn’t know your name was Mark
VAN DRIVER
It’s not
The van driver walks out of the garage and leaves the Jones
with their new wrestling ring.

23. INT. LOCATION #18 - THE JONES HOUSE (KITCHEN). DAY 12:00
Harry walks in to the kitchen, Mary is sat down eating some
dinner. Harry looks like he has something on his mind.
MARY
Everything okay?
HARRY
I’m fine--
MARY
You don’t look fine
HARRY
Okay
(pause)
Can I tell you something
MARY
You know you can tell me anything
HARRY
Yeah, but you usually end up
telling dad
MARY
That’s not true--
HARRY
Mum--
MARY
Okay it’s true
(pause)
But I won’t this time
(pause)
Promise
HARRY
It’s just
(pause)
Harry takes a deep breath and tells her.
HARRY (CONT’D)
I really don’t think I want to be a
wrestler
MARY
But you looked so excited when the
ring got delivered?

24. HARRY
I am excited
(pause)
To spend time with dad
(pause)
I really don’t want to disappoint--
MARY
You could never disappoint me or
your father
HARRY
I think this might do it--
MARY
Don’t be silly. He just wants to
see you do something you enjoy
HARRY
It’ll break his heart--
MARY
Yeah, he’ll probably be sad
(pause)
But he’ll get over it As long as he
sees that you’re happy
HARRY
I need to tell him
MARY
Why don’t you just do some training
with him first
(pause)
There’s no pressure to do anything
you don’t want to do
HARRY
I suppose not

Harry smiles, hugs his mum and gives her a kiss on the cheek.
He heads back into the garage.
INT. LOCATION #19 - THE JONES HOUSE (GARAGE). DAY 14:00
Dave and Harry have been working on putting the ring together
since it got delivered. Harry has been slowing down the
progress more than anything.
Mary walks into the garage.

You two seem to be having fun
HARRY
I’d have had it done by now if dad
wasn’t slowing me down
DAVE
Ha, hilarious son
(pause)
Actually son, could you give me and
mum a minute to talk?
HARRY
Yeah, go for it
DAVE
In private--
HARRY
Kidding
Harry walks out of the garage as Mary looks at Dave
DAVE
Listen love
(pause)
I just wanted to say sorry for that
mess this morning
(pause)
I’m an idiot for not telling you--
MARY
Yes, you are
DAVE
I just didn’t want to stress you
out with another one of my
impulsive ideas
MARY
I’m not that bad am I?
DAVE
I don’t mean it like that--
MARY
But it makes me feel bad that you
feel like you can’t tell me
DAVE
I know--

I would have understood
(pause)
You just have to tell me
DAVE
I promise that I won’t do anything
this stupid again
MARY
(smiling)
Don’t keep promises you can’t keep
DAVE
Did you see the look on Harry’s
face though
Mary pauses for a second and thinks about whether she should
tell Dave about what Harry told her earlier. She remembers
that she told Harry that she’d keep his secret.
MARY
Yeah, he looked really excited
DAVE
I’m so glad I bought the ring. I
really think it will help bring us
closer
MARY
Don’t push him too hard though Dave
DAVE
Of course not
(pause)
I’d never make him do anything he
didn’t want to
Mary smiles as she realises she has nothing to worry about.
She gives Dave a kiss.
MARY
Shout me when it’s ready
INT. LOCATION #20 - THE JONES HOUSE (GARAGE). DAY 17:00
The ring has been constructed. Harry and Dave are having a
breather.
HARRY
Yep, it’s definitely a wrestling
ring

27. DAVE
I feel quite emotional
HARRY
Don’t make this weird
DAVE
I never thought I’d be in a
wrestling ring again--
HARRY
Aren’t you booked to make an
appearance at a show next month?
DAVE
Yeah, but I’m not wrestling--
HARRY
Yeah but you’ll be going in the
ring
(pause)
Or are they gonna make you stand
outside the ring?
Dave gives Harry a stern look but then begins to laugh.
DAVE
Right. Now that the ring is ready
to go, I’ll show you the most basic
move, it’s called a back bump
Dave puts his arms out
DAVE (CONT’D)
So you put your arms out
He begins to slowly fall backwards
DAVE (CONT’D)
Tuck your neck
He tucks his neck just before he lands. He hits the mat with
a thud.
DAVE (CONT’D)
And land with your back flat to the
mat
Dave attempts to get up from the mat but realises he has
pulled a muscle in his back.
HARRY
Everything okay?

28. DAVE
My back
(pause)
My bloody back
Dave tries to get up with the help of Harry. He begins to
stumble towards the corner of the ring. Mary walks in with
drinks for them, not realising what just happened.
MARY
Anyone for orang--
DAVE
(shouting)
Mary, I’ve done my back
Mary quickly rushes into the ring and helps Harry get Dave
out of the ring. Dave puts his arms around Mary and Harry as
they all stumble out of the garage.
