1. What have you learnt from technologies
from the process of constructing this
product?
2. Camera
In our video we used many different forms of
technologies from using the camera to using
editing software. We used a Canon video
camera to record our footage. We learnt how
to film, play back our footage, zoom in and
out, focus and also how to attach it to the
tripod so the shots were steady in high and
low angles. With these skills we could capture
some good footage that was effective to our
genre, drama. We also learnt how to get out
footage onto an Apple Macintosh and then
import it onto our editing software, Final Cut
Pro.
3. Filming Techniques
We started off our film with a pan across the so that the
audience can clearly see where our film is set and the location
used. We also used many different angles to create different
effects, for example; we used a close up of the main girls face to
show her emotion and how upset she is. We also had extreme
close ups of the phone saying “leave me alone” to show it’s
importance and how upset it makes the main girl. We again had
a close up of the boy and girls hands splitting to represent that
they had broke up. We also had a long shot of all the group to
show her negative body language in contrast with the others.
Finally, we also had an over the shoulder shot, which shows the
girl looking at the photograph and how she remembers when it
was taken.
5. Final Cut Pro
To edit our film opening, we used Final Cut Pro. As
neither have us had done much editing before we weren’t
entirely sure how to use it so we had to experiment with
different effects to get the outcome that we desired.
Firstly, we had to get the clips onto the computer from the
SD card and then separate the clips we liked and could
use from the ones that we didn’t like and then we had to
import the clips onto Final Cut Pro. After that we put all
the clips into a timeline so that we could view them in
order and start adding effects.

clips

8. Editing Techniques
We first of all imported our clips onto Final Cut Pro
from our SD memory card and then sorted through
the clips we liked and could use and the ones that
were no good. We then put the good clips into a
timeline so that we could view them in order and start
to add effect. We used a range of different editing
techniques to create our film opening. The main effect
we used was brightness and contrast filters on all of
the shots except the flashbacks to give a higher
quality look and make the colours of the costumes
and location stand out as our standard video camera
gave our footage a faded and washed out
appearance. We also added titles to our production
and altered the fonts and moved them around so they
9. Editing Techniques
Another effect we used was overdrive which flashes different colours
on the flashbacks, which were a happy memory of the boy and the
girl on the Manchester Wheel, and a bad memory of them breaking
up and him walking away from her. We set the colours to two
different shades of yellow so it looked as though the girl was going
back in time and so the audience can clearly see that it was a
memory. We also added a vignette so the flashbacks which puts a
blurry boarder around the corners of the shot, to again symbolise the
flashback effect. Finally, we used a movement blur to represent the
main girl is drunk when she is walking into the sea.
We used several transitions too, to create a smooth change from
one clip to another. These were mainly fades however we used a few
overlaps too. Also, as the music became a faster tempo and more
intense, we sped up the cut rate so our product became more
dramatic.

12. Equipment we used
We used a standard Canon digital
camera to record our footage. It provided
us with a decent image and we could
watch our clips back after we had captured
them.
We also used an Final Cut Pro
on an Apple Macintosh to edit
our production. This allowed us
to import clips, crop them, add
effects, add fades and
transitions, add titles and also
add music to our media
production.
