This document discusses the need for more nurses to obtain bachelor's degrees. It notes that the Institute of Medicine and Robert Wood Johnson Foundation recommend that 80% of nurses have bachelor's degrees by 2020, up from the current 50%, in order to improve patient outcomes. There will be over 1 million new nursing jobs needed by 2020, presenting an opportunity for nurses to obtain additional education.
