in the workplace.

Slips, trips and falls - The facts
• Falls from height and slips, trips and falls are associated with more fatalities and major injuries
than any other injury kind.
• In 2013/14 they were responsible for more than half (57%) of all major injuries.
• 986,000 working days were lost during 2013/14 because of Slips and Trips
• 567,000 working days were lost during the same period because of Falls.

Who is responsible?
• EVERYONE! Most injuries from Slips and Trips occur because of poor housekeeping
How do slips, trips and falls occur?
• Coiled cables
• Rubbish
• Trailing Cables
• Working in poor light
• Unsuitable footwear
• Change from dry to wet weather
TOOL BOX TALKS
What can you do about it?
• Clear up waste material as you create it
• Do not leave tools, equipment or unused material lying around
• Ensure materials are in the correct area
• Clear up any spillages immediately
• Beware of the risks whilst working on winter mornings, afternoons and evenings make sure that there is adequate
light.
Remember?
• Clear up as you go and don’t cause anyone to be injured
• Report all incidents no matter how unimportant you think it is
• All Near Misses also need to be reported.
• By working together you will make a difference
