Goal
Setting
and
School
Placement
I
am
doing
my
internship
this
fall
at
Park
View
Education
Centre
in
Bridgewater,
Nova
Scotia.
This
school
operates
out
of
the
South
Shore
Regional
School
Board
with
just
over
800
students
from
grades
ten
to
twelve.
I
will
be
working
along
side
two
music
teachers,
they
are
Scott
Leonard,
who
is
my
cooperating
teacher,
and
Ken
Foote.
I
am
very
fortunate
because
my
cooperating
teacher,
Scott
Leonard,
has
a
tremendous
amount
of
experience,
having
taught
music
students
for
twenty
four
years
and
twenty
one
of
them
in
Park
View.
He
has
also
the
director
of
Park
View's
first
school
musical
and
also
teaches
at
the
Lunenburg
County
Band
Camp.
Leonard
teaches
guitar,
band,
and
embraces
innovative
new
ideas,
having
created
his
own
class
–
Recording
Arts
Technology.
Guitar
is
his
primary
instrument
of
which
he
plays
outside
of
school
with
various
local
bands
in
genres
such
as
blues,
funk,
classical
and
rock.
Leonard`s
commitment
to
the
music
program
and
to
providing
the
more
than
175
students
he
teaches
with
a
range
of
skills
and
values
they’ll
use
throughout
their
lives
are
just
some
of
the
reasons
he
has
been
recognized
as
Nova
Scotia’s
first
MusiCounts
Teacher
of
the
Year.
A
Juno
presented
to
him
by
Anne
Murray.
This
award
helped
Leonard
to
keep
his
program
alive
with
an
additional
$20,000
awarded
to
him
and
his
program
in
recognition
for
his
hard
work
and
dedication.
Ken
Foote
teaches
the
International
Baccalaureate
Music
course,
concert
band,
and
the
small
wind
ensemble.
I
will
be
attending
and
teaching
these
classes
and
ensembles
this
fall.
Foote
has
performed
with
a
wide
range
of
ensembles
including
Symphony
Nova
Scotia,
the
Band
of
the
Ceremonial
Guard,
and
the
Aviators
and
conducted
numerous
school
and
community
bands
-‐
including
the
Nova
Scotia
Junior
Wind
Ensemble
and
the
Chester
Brass
Band.
He
remains
active
as
an
adjudicator,
a
clinician,
a
conductor,
and
a
music
educator.
He
has
served
with
a
number
of
community
organizations
including
terms
on
the
executive
of
the
Nova
Scotia
School
Boards
Association
and
the
Nova
Scotia
Band
Association.
Foote
was
the
President
of
Buckley’s
Music
in
Halifax
for
fourteen
years.
In
2003,
he
was
awarded
the
Musica
Viva
Award
by
the
Nova
Scotia
Music
Educators’
Association
for
his
years
of
dedicated
service
to
music
educators
and
students.
Some
of
the
goals
I
have
established
for
myself
are
to
become
more
confident
in
my
abilities
to
2. work
with
other
ensembles.
In
this
case
jazz
band
and
guitar
classes
two
areas
of
which
are
outside
of
my
comfort
zone
due
to
my
weak
background
in
these
areas.
I
have
been
asking
lots
of
questions
to
Leonard
regarding
these
classes
and
he
has
already
given
me
some
things
to
prepare
in
teaching
these
classes.
He
wants
me
to
do
ear
training
with
the
guitar
class
and
work
on
a
piece
this
semester
with
the
jazz
band.
This
has
been
helping
me
to
become
more
prepared
in
teaching
outside
of
my
comfort
zone.
Leonard
and
I
have
also
decided
that
it
would
be
great
for
me
to
teach
some
solid
music
basics
like
basic
theory
and
some
easy
ear
training
activities
to
his
Music
Audio
Technology
course,
similar
to
what
I
would
be
doing
with
the
guitar
class.
I
have
been
working
on
my
ear
training
to
help
me
feel
comfortable
with
teaching
this
as
I
personally
have
struggled
in
my
ear
training
classes
in
the
past.
I
am
also
looking
for
ways
to
make
each
lesson
have
an
interactive
portion
if
possible
as
I
find
the
students
enjoy
and
learn
more
by
doing
an
activity
in
what
they
are
learning.
I
have
noticed
that
Leonard
and
Foote
both
have
a
fairly
laid
back
approach
with
the
students.
In
saying
that,
the
students
have
a
great
amount
of
respect
for
both
teachers
and
value
their
expertise.
I
enjoy
this
setting
because
the
students
know
the
rules
and
everything
runs
smoothly
and
respectfully
between
teacher
and
student.
I
am
also
thinking
and
setting
goals
for
myself
on
how
to
prepare
for
the
various
music
classes
I
will
be
teaching
and
rehearsals
I
will
be
running.
My
goal
is
to
take
what
I
learned
at
MUN
and
form
my
lesson
plans
in
the
most
logical
and
efficient
order.
As
well
as
making
them
very
easy
for
me
to
follow
and
adapt
if
needed.
One
of
my
overall
goals
is
to
understand
over
the
course
of
my
internship
just
how
the
roles
of
a
music
teacher
function
with
the
school
and
amongst
colleagues,
as
well
as
the
administrative
side
of
the
job.
This
is
also
the
case
for
the
special
education
section
of
the
school,
I
have
noticed
so
far
that
this
may
not
be
an
inclusive
school
as
I
have
not
seen
these
students
in
any
of
the
classes
I
have
attended
so
far.
My
goal
is
to
learn
more
about
this
during
the
course
of
my
internship.
Overall
I
am
very
excited
to
be
working
with
two
well
experienced
teachers
at
Park
View
Education
Centre
and
look
forward
to
my
progress
in
the
weeks
ahead.
