Triple R Middle East was contacted by Albert Massaad sarl, a Lebanese metalwork manufacturer, to help extend the oil change interval on its new production line from Salvagnini, which included an S4 cutting machine linked to a P4 bending machine. Triple R tested the oil in the machines and installed its patented Oil Cleaner. Over several oil sample tests spanning thousands of machine hours, the Oil Cleaner significantly reduced oil contamination and allowed the oil to be reused beyond the original 2000 hour change interval specification, saving Albert Massaad sarl on hydraulic oil and change costs. Pleased with the results, the company also installed Triple R filters at another plant.

Triple R Solution
Oil samples from both S4 and P4 machines were analyzed. Oil
was sampled from a specific location on each machine, and that
same location continues to be used for subsequent samplings.
The S4 oil analysis revealed ISO cleanliness of 21/19/16 (green
bar in figure above). New oil was also analyzed, it scored
18/15/11 (purple bar). When compared, the S4 oil had over
seven times the contamination found in new oil from the barrel.
But additives and viscosity were in good working order. Hence,
the oil could be saved by filtering contaminants by Triple R.
With Triple R Oil Cleaner installed, oil in both machines contin-
ued to be used, and, at the 800-hour mark, the S4 oil was
sampled and analyzed again and this time it scored 19/17/13
(blue bar). Contamination was down four (4) folds. Additives
package and viscosity grade scores remained unchanged.
At this writing, the S4 oil has surpassed 7500 hours of operation.
A recent oil analysis showed its ISO cleanliness at 18/16/13 (red
bar in figure above). That’s on par with new oil. The additives
package was preserved, and viscosity grade is almost
unchanged. The S4 oil is near-new condition, again.
When Triple R Middle East (TRME) became involved, the oil
inside the S4-P4 line was at 4000 hours of operation; twice the
change interval limit. TRME recommended the introduction of
its patented Oil Cleaner on both the S4 and P4 machines. But
first, it tested the oils in both machines to ensure the chemical
composition is still fit for protecting the S4 and P4 machines.

A few years ago, Albert Massaad sarl invested in a new produc-
tion line from Salvagnini, Italy. With an S4 machine, for cutting
and shearing, linked to a P4 machine, for bending and finishing,
production accuracy and speed placed Albert Massaad sarl at
the leading edge of metalwork factories in the Middle-East and
Africa, and on par with top manufacturers worldwide.
Accordingly, this sophisticated production line required
extremely clean hydraulic oil (DTE EXCEL), which was not
readily available locally and required importation. With the oil
change interval specified by Salvagnini at 2000 hours of opera-
tion, a full year of production required frequent oil changes.
The cumulative costs of this oil – initial + importation + onsite
storage – and the frequency of oil changes and disposals
burdened production and affected maintenance. The plant
director was looking for ways to eliminate this inconvenience.

2. Triple R Solution Results & Benefits
The first P4 oil test revealed ISO cleanliness at 20/17/14 (green
bar in figure below). After eight hundred hours of operation
with Triple R Oil Cleaner present in the system, oil was analyzed
again, it scored 18/16/12 (blue bar) on the ISO scale.
At this writing, the P4 oil has just surpassed the 8000 hour
mark. Lab analysis revealed an ISO score of 17/15/11 (red bar),
which is one grade better than new oil. Both, viscosity and the
additives package simply were maintain constant and at the
same levels when filtration commenced 4000 hours earlier.
Mr. Serge Massaad, Plant Director, was very interested in
extending the oil change interval on the S4-P4 line to reduce
frequent importation of oil. However, his first and foremost goal
was to protect the Salvagnini line from oil contamination.
He articulates: “The S4-P4 line is the heart of our operation.
Almost every design we produce requires this line, and it is
imperative to have it in perfect operational health. We
selected the most comprehensive Triple R solution to maintain
clean oil flowing in the heart of our plant.”
Mr. Serge noted: “Using the Triple R solution we minimized oil
change downtime dramatically. Now, changing oil is as simple
as swapping Triple R elements.” As far as the return on invest-
ment (ROI), Mr. Serge adds: “The Triple R solution practically
paid for itself in less than a year.”
He concluded: “I want to get the most out of every investment
in our plant. Triple R helped us fill this requirement on the
S4-P4 line. We are able to extend Oil Change Interval with
great confidence, knowing full well our machines are
protected. Basically, we lowered production cost while
running an efficient and environmentally-friendly operation.”
Following the experience on the S4-P4 line, Albert Massaad sarl
deployed the TR-Series at the Hosrayel plant. For one, to filter
genset oil while operating, and for two, to filter diesel fuel in
second stage storage. Another long term testing exercise is
underway to monitor and report on these deployments.
